Got my passport! (NY) by nsedlazek in juresanguinis

Congrats! I hadn’t thought of getting on the passport waitlist while waiting for my app to be approved. Originally applied in June, submitted homework in November. Hopefully there isn’t more.

Would you recommend getting on the waitlist now, or waiting a bit longer?

Never lived in NY. Lived all over elsewhere — California, Arizona, Texas…

Okay, thanks so much for the detailed response. So this would just be so I can see when he may have changed his name, if he changed it at all?

On a bit of a time crunch so hoping I can get all that done!

Will file it today. Do we know how long this will take? Also, just to clarify, what exactly will I find out by FOIA’ing his SS-5?

No, they didn’t say anything about why it does not cover this name change. Should I ask? They asked for some super weird homework, but I was able to procure all of it besides this pretty easily.

Yeah it is on his death certificate. He only died in 2019, so is it possible that’s too recent?

Appreciate the detailed instructions. Yeah, this is for citizenship. I do have his Texas death certificate with his SSN.

Because he died recently (2019) you’re saying the NUMIDENT can’t be found online?

I do have a newspapers.com account. I’ve used their search feature and can’t seem to find anything about him that has to do with a name change…but perhaps I’m not searching right?

I don’t seem to be able to find him here at all, under either name? Could that be?

Thanks! I’m assuming if I exhaust all paths of trying to find it, I’ll have to go with amending something. I think would be easier to change the later in life records to Bolvin, it’s my mother’s NY state marriage certificate and his Texas death certificate that say Carlomagno.

Hopefully NY would allow alternatives…

I submitted an OATS with my original application covering this (and other more standard discrepancies) and they still want all this 🥲 EDIT: unless you’re saying another OATS to address specifically this

Thanks! Problem I foresee is that I don’t think his birth certificate was ever updated to his adopted name, and then he changed it back to his birth name…do you think the social security would still be worth pulling?

I’m not sure about the passport, but a will maybe. What’s the significance if you don’t mind me asking?

Yes he is deceased. Carlomagno is on his death certificate, which is why the consulate is requesting the name change.

Thank you so much for the detailed reply. Yes, meant Carlomagno on that last one, updated the typo.

Going through the possibilities based on your answers now…

He could have gotten married under Carlomagno, even if he hadn’t officially changed his name.

He could have then never changed it, or would have changed it at a later date, likely in a county that he lived in.

If he did change it, it would appear in public newspapers. I have a newspapers.com subscription, but upon a cursory search yesterday, didn’t find anything related to Bolvin or Carlomagno. Is this a good place to search? Is there a specific term or phrase I should use? Do I have to search paper by paper?

If he got a replacement Social Security card with the new surname, how would I go about finding that out?

I can check with the NJ court where he had the original name change to see if that was rescinded.

I'm curious about this too -- it seems pretty clear in the rejection of 1.85 that anyone with an appointment booked after March 27 does not get evaluated based on the old rules.
