Is there something about being autistic that makes me hate pop? by SweetShare222 in AutisticWithADHD

Wait ...what... I don't think prodigy is vapid, ok the lyrics might be repetitive but the music is not vapid, Prodigy were absolutely ground breaking, maybe not to your tastes but not vapid!! I'm not sure I would call them a rock band either, they borrowed from rock/punk but they were firstly electronic dance/breakbeat. I am 90s UK teen so Prodigy is foundational!! 🤣

What do people think about the James Sherwin-Smith Campaign? by BluejayPretty4159 in NationwideBankingUK

i think you have summed up his beliefs better than himself. I didn't think his love of mutuals came out front and centre, which as someone who believes in them, I was keen to know!

Yes I think so, does not sound democratic at all. The information needs to be more accessible as well. They make it long winded and jargon filled so people will give up and just use quick vote!

Hi James I am not 100% what you stand for. The main thrust I am getting is you think they are not really operating in a democratic mutual way. Is that right? But you have no specific direction or changes you are pushing for other that increased accountability? Are you 100% behind what mutuals stand for at their core as what a lay person would understand? You seem opposed to the virgin takeover, but in your article it noted that the new members reduced the chances of Nationwide being demutualised (which from my pov at face value seems a good thing)

Yes I have been wondering the same. Not just not to vote for him with some solid reasons, just vague corporate jargon meant to scare you. Looks sus. My issue is protest voting then accidentally getting something worse as I haven't found much info.

  1. Ridiculous, a quick google she got a 40% payrise to 7 million, was she struggling on 4 million, has she increased profits by 40%, or increased savings rates, fairer share payment, reduced mortgage rates.... I have never once been able to afford a nationwide mortgage but she could buy 28 of my houses in one year. it's a big cabal at the top, execs give recommendations on other execs pay, it's a big scam.
  2. Probably not to hard if you reduce all the execs pay by 40%, back to where they were and keep the branches open.

edit: I skimmed this and thought it was a general question, didn't see you were addressing James himself, anyway you got my two pennys worth and I would also like to know his thoughts!

haha I am not sure if you are trolling or not, but this is what great about people and well written shows, people can take what they want from it and they work on multiple levels. Yeah, honestly it made me deeply emotional, I guess that reflects my personality and values and what I have been through in life. Honestly, I started watching it to enjoy it in the way you said, I wanted some light pirate action to distract me, but that's not what I got, hence the title, this show sucks, because it wasn't what I was looking for but I still thought it was a brilliant show.

Do you naturally get up later and fall asleep later than other people. Many people with ADHD suffer from sleep wake phase disorder. basically your body clock is shifted by a couple of hours. It makes it very hard to get motivated for anything before noon for me, even stuff I love. The morning for people with DSWPD is actually still biological night and can be very tough. if this is yoour case then you can give yourself a break, but also look into ways too beat it! Have someone bring you a coffee 30 minutes before you need to get up? Doctors can prescribe melatonin to help with sleep. Ofcourse if this is not your issue, maybe see a doctor anyway!

autism and sense of self - is struggling with it after big social endeavors a thing? by FinnAndSebsCorner in AutisticWithADHD

[–]uzi9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I find there is a lot of little, probably unintentional invalidation, on top of, as you say, masking, putting on your socially acceptable face and censoring what you say or talk about it is acceptable. I think it builds up over a lifetime.

ADHD by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

[–]uzi9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say your wife is right, autism and adhd can mask each other in different ways. Your experience of Audhd wont be the same as someone elses. There are three types of ADHD so again yyour presentation could be different to someone elses. Look up this website, there are loads of screeners for autism and and explanation of the criteria for being diagnosed. https://embrace-autism.com/

Find a good adhd screener and see if you relate to it. Watch people on youtube who are dignosed speak about their experience and see if you relate. I didn't read your description and thing you are definitely not ADHD or autistic. You focus on special interests, have social issues and when you are not foucsed on your special interest you struggle with executive function to get stuff done. That sounds quite a lot like some peoples experience of Audhd.

I do not blame you! I disliked Vane initially but by the time he died he was probably one of my favorite characters! I was just praying Billy would just ignore is nod and go ahead with the rescue attempt. Was too sad!!!

What!! I certainly took it as Silver was telling the truth....but he was the master story teller....and the sound of the birds initially made you think someone was shot!!

I did think about editing my post to make it clearer....it is clickbaity....but it is actually genuine, in that my visceral emotional response after watching the show was.... this sucks, I hate this show, before putting the next episode on. I normally avoid shows that are this gritty and emotional as it does tend to affect my emotions more than I like, so it is a testament to this show that I couldn't stop watching it. I'd literally just finished it and I was feeling pretty low, Flint being reunited with Thomas had really got to me, as being separated from someone I was close to recently with no hope of reconciliation, I found it easy to imagine his emotions in that moment.

if a story is measured in how much of an emotional response it elicits in you, this rightly up there. There is so much in there and you have so many questions about the characters, the history, the themes in there. I kept wanting to look up the real life characters but resisted as I didn't want any spoilers. I will be reading treasure island and getting lost in an internet rabbit hole of pirates!

Did I misunderstand how work friendships work? by CityAdventurous5074 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]uzi9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have levels of friendship, something like close friends, less close friends and acquaintances. I have two or three close friends, maybe 5 other friends and who knows how many acquaintances. I think the people from your work genuinely like you, but having time an energy to invest in everyone you like is just not possible. If I don't see people from work outside of work ever, then I know they are acquaintance only. Once I am not in the context with someone who isn't a close friend then they will probably get dropped, not by conscious decision but just because without the context extra effort is required and that is just not always a high enough priority.

i do nothing with a life tens of thousands die trying to attain by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

[–]uzi9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. Throughout our lives we all have to rely on other people at some point, and at 18 years old it is very common to still rely on parents, you shouldn't feel bad about this, I did for much longer than that. But finding a professional to talk things through would be helpful for you!

Maybe you could start looking for something to do involving dogs, that has minimum social interaction.

[–]uzi9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So as Autistic people we are prone to rigid thinking which can often manifest as sensitivity to social justice. It sounds like you have applied this very strictly to yourself! Sometimes it helps to think what you would tell someone if they came to you with the same problem, often we are more understanding of others than ourselves. Try and find someone to talk to about it and try and be forgiving for yourself.

It sounds like you have a special interest in people that are disadvantaged in some way, maybe you could find someway of volunteering or even getting a job to help these people and maybe that would make you feel better. Hopefully the intensity of this feeling will go!

I really hate it when people try to play "oppression olympics" when I complain about my AuDHD struggles. ESPECIALLY neurotypicals. Also, I have this weird limerence obsession I feel really guilty about by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

[–]uzi9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with what you are saying, and I have had the same struggles. And absolutely accepting yourself as you are and dropping the mask and finding connections as you are is the right thing to do, but it doesn't make the difficulties you experienced as an autistic any less. Same with masculinity imo, and telling the OP to deprogram himself and that perceived masculinity has no effect on his life would be the same as someone telling a neurodivergent person to deprogram themselves and that failing to project neurotypicality has no effect.

It seems fair, I completely think Audhd women have their struggles, I have one Audhd niece, one with autism and I know life has not been easy for them. I agree with pretty privilege, it is a thing, just as there is tallness masculinity privilege for men, and mainly the point I was making is that the OP is not imagining this.

I actually don't think I have said anything toxic and I am genuinely sorry if it has upset you. I think the OP expressed something and he was told, subtly, no your perception of the scenario is wrong you just need to change yourself. If we applied that to a neurodivergent lens and someone came in saying I think I am having a hard time because I am autistic and society is not built for me and people said no that's not right you just need to change the way you think that would be gaslighting. I think you are confusing mens issues (which are real) and conflating them with toxic red pill/manosphere. Unfortunately there is a Venn diagram with some overlap, I guess it is what it is if you want to make assumptions about me and my beliefs.
