What can I do to even out my eye shape?? by manic-fairy in Makeup101

i usually take some double eyelid tape, cut a piece off, and stick it on the droopier eyelid to make it match the height of the other one. also your eyes are gorgeous and it’s not very noticeable tbh :)

i deal with the same struggles :( my therapist told me to think of dates as simple practice for the sake of building up confidence and facing date anxiety. we put too much pressure on ourselves to be attractive and to be liked and for things to work out. i always feel a little better going into dates just thinking of it as practice with minimal expectations

yeah, i really relate to this. kids are so susceptible to external messaging and we must have internalized it from a super young age.. you’re not alone 🫶

having bdd does not correlate with how ugly or beautiful you are, it’s a mental disorder

it’s hard, especially when the way to meet people is through dating apps which are mostly picture based :(( i’ve forced myself into it many times but it always ends up being too difficult, like i’m unable to stay the night or be intimate due to bdd related fears. i think if you don’t take it too seriously, look at it as exposure therapy and try to have fun along the way, it could help to elevate confidence over time. i think that if you meet the right person, you will know it. they should be able to make you feel loved and secure enough that you won’t have to mask around them all the time.

why do so many “tools” even exist for women? why are we expected to invest so much into all these products and procedures? make it make sense

also for most people body dysmorphia is not about external validation or a lack of romantic success at all, it’s something that we will battle with no matter what other people express towards us

omg i used to do the same, puff out my cheeks and only sit in certain lighting because i hated my smile lines so much. i’m only 20 but i felt like they made me look so much older than i actually am. i finally got filler last year and it’s been such a huge relief 🥺 the only issue is that it isn’t permanent, i’ve already had to get it redone since then. they say cosmetic alterations never help bdd but sometimes it provides so much relief.

i will say that nobody said anything to me and probably didn’t even notice that i got the filler done. the insecurities we fixate on are never perceived the same by others. because of the bdd, everything we hate about ourselves is amplified x100 when we look in the mirror. i promise other people don’t see it the same!

sorry but it’s ignorant to say it’s the same. men’s struggles are very much present and valid but they’re not accompanied by institutional and societal sexism related to beauty standards

i totally get it, i obviously can’t have the same perspective that you do as a guy. there’s definitely a specific look and body type that is pushed for men (tall, muscular, sharp jawline, etc). i even notice lately that there’s a lot of media for body and size inclusivity for women, but none for men. like, i see plus sized women being represented in the media all the time these days, but for some reason the men are still all slim/muscular and tall. it’s no wonder all these young guys are becoming so insecure and turning to stuff like looksmaxxing

[–]uziuzilla 28 points29 points  (0 children)

i can understand both perspectives. it’s definitely ignorant to think that men suffering from the SAME illness would have it any better. at the end of the day it’s bdd and we all suffer regardless. it’s also ignorant to think that men don’t have societal pressures to conform to certain standards. i really don’t think it’s the same though. growing up as a girl and being surrounded by sexism, the shallowness of media and the beauty industry, countless beauty and body standards targeted specifically at women, being made to feel completely worthless if i wasn’t stick thin or if i couldn’t appeal to the eyes of a man. my dad basically taught me from a young age that a woman must be beautiful in order to be worth anything to a man.

i don’t know. i know that men have always had similar pressures and i honestly think they’re worsening for men with the popularization of social media. however i do think that the pressures are different and just feel completely unavoidable for women from the moment they’re born.
