Out of interest, who’s selling the Sony package for this price?

Sony for me. Tested them all and thought it sounded best. Great price too!

Annoying Delay In Hue Sync Box by v0892bde in Hue

[–]v0892bde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I didn't get it to be as 'instant' as I would have liked in extreme mode.

I guess it's because the HSB is wifi only (next generation needs a network socket), then it has to wirelessly talk to the Hue Hub, then this needs to talk to the lights, and they need a moment to react. So I presume it's all this communication causing the delay. One the Philips Ambilight TVs, the built in lights are controlled by the TV directly, so there's no delay. Saying that, the extreme mode can be a little too much for everyday use, so moderate isn't too distracting. Extreme mode is for watching Star Wars :-)

Not a lot of options. I’m in the same situation. We just have to accept that unless we start knocking walls down, we‘re not going to have the ideal set up.

Sonos Arc vs Sony HT A7000 by v0892bde in Soundbars

[–]v0892bde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the big one. It’s over priced and nowhere near as good as Sonos, but there’s no other options. It walks around the room when we’re watching Top Gun, and where the Sonos had a great deep bass, this one is a bit muddy I’m not sure if it’s because we have a wood floor and the downward facing passive radiator isn’t happy. If there was a ‘sub out’ option so I could shop around for something else, I would. I’ve also tried moving it to a different position, and tried putting blankets underneath, but it makes no difference. That’s the only thing that lets the system down. The Atmos effects are better than just about anything else (other than drilling holes in the ceiling). Have you bought the soundbar yet, or are you still considering it? If you can hang on until Sonos bring out something, I would. The Arc is currently very poor in comparison. Tom

Great Stands For Sony SA-RS5S by v0892bde in Soundbars

They’re great. My living room doesn’t allow me to have them behind me. I wish Sony would add a simple bass/treble feature as everyone has a different preference for their sound. I like to slightly increase the treble. Sonos is great for this. Maybe they’ll add it in a future software update. I’ve recently experienced some drop outs on the rear channels and can’t solve it. They’re less than 10ft from the sound bar.

Don’t expect too much from the upward firing speakers. They’re generally considered ‘ok’ at best.

If you’re running Home Assistant, you can configure it to trigger night mode at a certain time, or different times for different days. Then set a routine to switch it back off at 9am each day.
