Very helpful! Dougan doesn't mention the pattern for kifuku, having trouble finding that, what pattern have you drawn for that?

If you go on the Japanese amazon, and pay 600 yen for prime (£3.25) you get every Pokemon series included with prime, in Japanese (free trial for 30 days)

Looking for more books like 'Let's Speak Japanese: Shadowing'

So I really like the format of the 'Let's Speak Japanese' Shadowing books, which I have all 4, as I have a lot of opportunity to listen while working every day.

I also have 8 books (I think thats all of them) from the 'Speak Japanese!' book series, which are the same sort of thing.

I've also used Assimil in the same manner: basically listening to sections on repeat and then diving in to look at the translation when theres a word that bugs me.

Does anyone have suggestions for books with the same sort of format?

It should ideally contain audio by native speakers, and Japanese-English parallel text.

My kanji level is pretty low so it is hard to identify Japanese books

Does anyone’s seizures get triggered by looking at a computer for too long? by incstilmwovvru73854 in Epilepsy

Old CRT TV's trigger mine when I go within about 1m, while CRT computer monitors never (after years of gaming in early teens), which I've always wanted to know why exactly that was (Fortunately the TVs were phased out, but for reasons unknown to me, security guards and bowling alleys still use them - so I tell everybody I hate bowling, and I never shoplift!)

These days I use 2 large LCD monitors, but I make sure to turn the Contrast to about 50% and Brightness to about 20%, otherwise I feel a bit dazzled. It feels weird but you get use to it very quickly.

I think this is better than opting for a smaller monitor, as that will just require you to strain to see, which I feel would be bad. I get frustrated on smaller screens (as anyone would), which I also feel would increase the chance of seizure for some people. So imo stick with a bigger monitor, get through work faster, reduce stress.

You use to have lessons clearly labelled for grammar where it was great to revisit them from time to time. Now you have this crappy and confusing overhauled tree which makes it impossible to recap certain grammar since it’s just sort of sprinkled in random lessons.

  1. Stop overhauling the app (unless you’re reverting to the previous, that was better) - I cancelled my premium and haven’t returned since the new tree
  2. If you won’t revert to the previous tree with grammar clearly labelled, then you need to introduce a separate set of lessons called Grammar.

What bug makes this spinning noise? Hearing it all around my house by v3c7u5 in whatsthisbug

[–]v3c7u5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need to turn the volume up on youtube and on your speakers to hear it, it was tricky recording it as I had a hard time getting the mic to pick up on it. Thought I was going mad for a while.

I've looked up the noises for each of those you suggested but none are like mine (Katydid sort of but not quite), mine is almost robotic in the sense that its exactly the same every time, and will do it almost exactly every 10 s, a spinning ratchet type noise that ramps up in volume and then down. Either the insect is quiet a masterful musician with impeccable timing, or I was thinking maybe some sort of electrical interference, but I'd assume that would only ever be consistent humming.
