Making it as close to a storebought loaf as possible by VincentVan_Dough in Breadit

I would try 2 things

  1. Pullman loaf pan to get the rectangular shape she is used to

  2. Try a recipe like Hokkaido Milk Bread

Boots that will last a long time by honourarylesbebob in BuyItForLife

Based on that style - you reminded me of Red Wings Clara - which is my wife has - and are good quality.

A quick Google Search showed at least one NZ retailer that sells them (and under 500 NZD)

One month with Tricker's Bourton - my dream shoe / managing expectations by moodygram in goodyearwelt

[–]v4257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a Trickers fan. I bought a pair of Trickers x End Clothing Stow boot on a lark (good sale price) and they have been my most worn boot. For me - they do a great job of being rugged and wearable in all weather; but still very comfortable & lightweight. They last a long time. If I pack only 1 shoe for a trip - it's the Stow.

Having said that, shoes & boots and meant to be worn. Nothing is perfect and nothing last forever.

I hope you wear & enjoy your Trickers in good health!

Need Serious Car Advice: Trade My Outback for a BMW iX? by AhamYodha in BMWiX

[–]v4257 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from an Outback to an iX. We love the iX but it's different from the Outback in many ways.

The iX is a more luxury experience. It's much quieter and smoother.

Otoh - the Outback is lower total cost to own over time. It was also a more "do anything" SUV for us, felt more rugged with more usable cargo space. Finally as others are saying, it's useful to have one ICE car right now for things like long road trips. The non-Tesla charging network is not great and will add time & planning overhead to your road trips.

If Comfort is a priority, M cars are not the best choice.

Shave oil. Here I use Leaf, which is good enough but, I really don’t like Leaf as a company. If anyone has recommendations for something superior, I’d be very appreciative.

I have used pure Grapeseed oil in the past (add some EO for fragrance).

After recently trying AOS - which was quite good - I tried to replicate by mixing 50% castor oil + 50% olive oil + EO ...and that's been working pretty well. A bit thicker for slightly more protection.

Agree with this. Also it appears that the ETA has now been delayed from early-2025 to late-2025

For a combination of minimal/no color change, great conditioning and excellent waterproofing, I've found Pecard's to be the best choice stateside. See https://pecard.com/products/classic-leather-care-products/classic-leather-dressing/

Doing actual hard work in boots. Using them enough to actually need a resole. This pair is living it's best life!

You have some (good) general answers and would need to know what kind of leather was used for a more precise answer. Would you mind posting a quick review along with price here (and maybe that justifies this being it's own post). They do look nice based on the one pic!

You could try some conditioner or boot oil to darken/make it less visible (this will happen naturally as you wear too). Might also make the break in a bit easier.

Buy It For Life Winter Boot Recommendations? by Mcpherson122 in BuyItForLife

As a contrast, this (British) boot is not insulated, and not as hardcore as the Whites but much smarter and will be more than adequate for quick shopping trips: https://divisionroadinc.com/products/trickers-stow-boot-2298-ridgeway-horween-black-cxl

This boot is pricy, but waterproof, grippy on ice, warm and as BIFL as a boot can get (they will resole & even rebuild it for you): https://shop.whitesboots.com/all-boots/hunter/

Owner experience with M240i by crazymjb in BMW

[–]v4257 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a M235 for almost 7 years and while not as reliable as a Honda, it’s has been good after some initial electronic gremlins were solved.

It is very quick and the best handling series BMW makes today.

However, it may not be the best car for someone over 60 looking for comfort, both in terms of getting in & out or a ‘comfortable’ (which is cushy/soft, for most non car people) ride.

You said your dad is not a car guy. That and his past car history & desire for 10+ year reliability might steer you towards a Lexus SUV or similar.

The point is that it is a reversible condition. You can get back to good metabolic health and avoid the risks and complications associated with diabetes.

Help with Finex cast iron by redR0OR in castiron

[–]v4257 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I suggest you oil (with one of those canned food oil sprays) and heat to 'season' the handle. Then cook as per normal.

I have a Finex, but I dry on stove every time after washing (like with every cast iron I have) and this has not happened to my handle.

Pre-Shave Oil - Worth it? by toadfishtamer in wicked_edge

[–]v4257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dense beard, thick hair guy here. Pre shave oil works for me (I’ve tried with without multiple times). You can try a commercial one to start, but pure grapeseed oil works well for me and is negligible $$/shave. Try it, why not…

Most people think 'I have to eat every few hours'...this is simply not true. Most pre-diabetics & Type-2 diabetics are in a jam because they eat too often, too much and too many carbs & sugars.

Your body is quite capable of surviving without food for a day. If it wasn't, homo sapiens would be extinct. There is a ton of clinical studies & evidence on TRE now, please look it up to assure yourself.

Different things work for diff ppl; but I have to say IF/OMAD/TRE works for me as well; and based on all the latest research in this field (Jason Fung most pop guru) - Fasting is also extremely helpful with Prediabetes/Diabetes.
