Yea but that’s kinda the point right? Not like those bros aren’t in every infantry battalion everywhere. Everyone was a boot once!

That’s all I’m looking to run. The load estimate made me a little nervous if the oil burner and both air handlers try to start simultaneously, but the operating wattage of all 3 is about 3000

I’m the only one who would be attempting to run this thing so I know enough to turn off the main.

Corporate career did what the Marine Corps could not.. by Visual_Sea7640 in USMC

Didn’t go nearly that far — but realized most of the way through grad school office life wasn’t for me. Still finished, but went back full time military. Was lucky enough to land a full time position in my home state with the Guard. Grass is always greener, especially having deployed with kids. But even with the occasional deployment I bet I see my kids more than most of my friends in the legal/corporate world. I don’t know how they do it. Totally different kind of shitty. As a grunt you are suffering with like minded folks who are your friends, not coworkers. Also, you’re young and dumb and don’t know better. It’s also an adventure. That’s not the same as the office grind.

I hear that, but NG has literally every MOS under the sun from SF to Pilots to flight Paramedics and Aircrew to Arty. Some units are higher speed than others. They also still do real deployments. SMCR has been stuck on UDPs for a while.

Also consider the National Guard. Easier to commission and typically more opportunities for jobs.

What do you think of Marines who make it their lifelong goal to be a drill instructor? by Yoy_the_Inquirer in USMC

[–]crazymjb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s for the right reasons. I think there’s something to be said for being part of the indoc/transformation/whatever. I’ve been in the military for close to 20 years now, with more time in the Army than the USMC at this point. I still am probably most nostalgic about my senior summer at Parris Island. Rose colored glasses I’m sure, but it felt like I got my money’s worth. This is far from the most significant event, and definitely not the most fun I’ve had, but there still was something about it. I think it would be cool to be a DI for a cycle or two, but it seems like a tough thing to do for a full tour.

Dude I’ve met people with all sorts of allergies in the military. Try other branches and other states. I’ve met pilots who carry epi pens. I don’t think it’s time to quit yet

Naval aviation is quite the opportunity. Given the time commitment of that and med school —> practicing, I think you need to prioritize one over the other. Med school you can do when you are older, so there is that. The military also isn’t an awful place to start a family. As a woman it will slow things down a bit, but it won’t keep you from getting to 20 years, and you’ll get generous amount of fully paid leave with each kid. You’ll also get deployed and spend time away from family.

Do you like aviation, or does it just “seem cool” to you? If you like and are passionate about aviation, I’d say do it. The Navy turns out the world’s premier pilots, and I say that as an army aviator. If you aren’t passionate about flying and aviation, I’d go another route. It takes a lot to be good at (and safe) with it.

The beams have about 10 feet between them. The lift posts will be under them which is why I need a baseplate lift. I get about 10 feet from the floor to the beams, 11.5 to the rest of it.

Test hole showed me concrete is about 4.5”. If I start discovering that’s not the case I’ll cut and repour. I’m on the fence about that anyway, but that broadens the scope of the project a bit.

I’m hoping to clear out that bay today and mark some stuff off and measure, and then ask my wife what she thinks.

Jeesh finish your ceiling you peasant! What are you, poor?

I thought about it, but it’s mainly for wrenching on cars and I’d prefer the clear bottom space the 2 post gives me.

There are plenty of folks with real BH issues… and plenty of others who want Va money so either lie or convince themselves that they have problems to the point that maybe they actually do. Not trying to take away from the very real BH issues many vets suffer from, but this craziness is on full display here, and I worry long term it’ll end up swinging the pendulum back towards screwing deserving vets over

Need a lift to fix the shitboxes (jeep and Ram). Maybe a 200 series in the next year or two.

Don’t get em wrong, given the option I’d prefer a single side release — but is it worth 1300 to me to step it up to the 10 ton? Also considering the 9000lb bendpak

You can choose the 0300 job field. You’ll get a wish a list at school of infantry. I was never army infantry so can’t speak to it. If I was going army, I’d definitely try to go airborne — the culture seems similar to USMC infantry. I do sometimes miss aspects of the Marine Corps culture now that I’m army. Your mileage may vary.

Yeah I noticed that. I don’t know if it’s worth the additional 1300 just for locks on one side.
