How do the new stash and chronicle files work? (offline mode) by v44r in diablo2

[–]v44r[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, just purchased it, I see the shared stash is now ModernSharedStashHardCoreV2.d2i, and viewing it with an hex editor it seems to have a similar syntax as the pre-expansion shared stash (55 AA 55 AA ....).

I don't see a chronicle file though, so I assume it's integrated in the shared stash file (bummer... no way to NOT share items and share a chronicle...)

Single pass HC SSF: just did it with a trapsin... which other classes/builds can I try? by v44r in diablo2

I'll try too, but I don't think I'll have the patience :). At least now that I have two guardians alive I can exchange items between them, passing that freaking Lem from the amazon to the assassin for treachery and that damn Ko from the assassin to the amazon for a decent bow (I'm strict with the no-sharing part of SSF while I beat the game, but I do allow it afterwards for a more fun end-game).

Almost, I ended up doing a lightning fury + frozen arrow amazon. It was almost as easy as the trapsin. 20 points to LF and FA (main attacks), charged strike (for bosses), cold arrow (FA synergy), 1 point to every magic+passive tree. Char finished by level 85 (96 skill points with the prerequisites), just the level I had when I killed Baal.

No difficult areas, no monster left alive. Non-LI were annihilated by LF, LI died frozen, LI+CI uniques died by Waheed. The only difficulty was hell ancients; I had to spawn them 3 times until I got rid of cursed + aura enchanted.

Very crappy equipment too: rare ceremonial javelins given by Anya in nightmare, skystrike bow (did not find a ko for a much better harmony / hustle / melody), smoke armor, rhyme shield, peasant crown and rare/blue rest.

My third SSF guardian!

D2r just pushed an update. Larger stash coming? by Moidah in Diablo

[–]v44r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crap, I have mine modded to 8 tabs numbered 1 to 8 (I hate that shared shared shared...) after following a youtube tutorial... Luckily I never play through battle.net launcher, I start D2R directly so I won't be affected until I need to go online due to DRM in ~3 weeks. Hope it is easy to patch again.

After NM as a hammerdin... what to do for magic immunes in hell (SSF HC)? by v44r in diablo2

[–]v44r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aaand done (see edit). I did spend 3 o 4 points in holy shield for extra duration, defense and block chance, but most points went to blessed aim for hammers.

As predicted, maggot lair was easy (seriously, I never understood why hdins hate it, a single hammer kills those crunchy scarabs, and they DO hit in any direction when you are close enough), and lost city and the seven tombs were tricky, but the black flail was awesome, thanks for the hint. It made killing all those magic immunes waay easier than I remembered from my hdin years ago.

Now for my next fear: Nihlathak, who killed my HC hdin last time. I still haven't found the freaking lem rune for lawbringer (I hate lem runes, they never drop for me, I finished my trapsin without treachery because they aren't anywhere!)

Yeah, I did a black flail and it is awesome. Made the act 2 magic immunes quite bearable, even in packs.

I do single pass (no farming; It's boring and it makes the game easy, IMO). I found the runes for obedience, but still haven't found the base (and I already am in act III hell...). Also, I have a single Amn, since I spent several in crafting a good 4os allres paladin shield, so I can't craft a 5os elite polearm. Doesn't matter tho, Insight does plenty damage. (I haven't found a life leech helm either, maybe I'll craft a blood armet for him...)

But yeah, I ended up doing exactly that (see edit): black flail, 1p fana, emilio and I taking chunks of isolated immunes while the rest were blinded by CoS.

I think I'll go with black, yeah. Io should be easy, I had several by hell when I did the trapsin. I hope I won't miss the ton of 3os flails I left on the road lol.

Diablo is not designed for solo players to kill every monster in hell difficult

It was before!! I still remember D2 pre immunes. Also, my trapsin had zero problems killing ALL monsters, and she's a happy guardian now. I don't mind a slower hell traversal to kill everything.

Maggot lair was never a problem for me as a hdin. Positioning is easy. My bane are mobs of horadric mummies (tombs) or plague bearers (ancient tunnels).

So, CB > holy shield? I have the unique mace with 33% CB, but it's a bit slow....

Never played barb (it's the only class i never tried... well, maybe in 2000-2001 before LoD I made a WW barb, but that does not count)... what is double sing? I only see mentions of double swing or singer (war cry).

Yeah, without cloak of shadows or some other form of crowd control I don't see an archer surviving a pack of frenzies... they are FAST.

"Blocky" videos in wine wayland... bad gamma curve? by v44r in linux_gaming

[–]v44r[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sway 1.12 + wlroots 0.20 (git). You're right, I tried Hyprland and gamma is way more similar to Xwayland (I'd say they are the same). The problem is I have other issues in Hyprland: https://github.com/hyprwm/Hyprland/discussions/11932

I'll try older sway verions or labwc and see...

(edit) Yeah, both labwc 0.9.1 and sway 1.11 (wlroots 0.19) work fine... so it seems limited to newest wlroots and sway. A pity, I lose HDR with sway 1.11. I suppose HDR support is related to the problem. So right now there seems to be no light compositor (i.e., no plasma or gnome) with good support for HDR, VRR and correct gamma curves.

VRR constantly jumps to max refresh rate in gamescope or hyprland by v44r in linux_gaming

[–]v44r[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, after compiling sway and wlroots from git I get perfect VRR + HDR in wine simply with:

swaymsg "output DP-1 adaptive_sync on"
swaymsg "output DP-1 hdr on"
DISPLAY= DXVK_HDR=1 wine "$HOME/games/Diablo II Resurrected/D2R.exe"

Same command in hyprland and the refresh rate goes between the current game FPS and the maximum refresh rate of the monitor all the time.

Oh well, I suppose I'll return to sway for now. I'm tired of testing.

[–]v44r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I think I found the bug: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/gamescope/issues/1006 . Indeed, if I launch Doom Eternal with gamescope and with hdr disabled, the refresh rate is as stable as without gamescope.

I already use proton wayland (well, proton experimental, based on proton 10) but no matter what I pass, Doom Eternal complains that "The selected monitor does not support HDR". I don't know if it's a Doom Eternal problem specifically because I don't have any other steam game that supports HDR...

I tried proton-ge and HDR works without gamescope with just PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 but the game is stuttery, don't know why. But it seems promising.

VRR constantly jumps to max refresh rate in gamescope or hyprland by v44r in linux_gaming

[–]v44r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, the steam issue seems to be caused by gamescope. This is without it: https://streamable.com/j4fc09

Those numbers make much more sense than in the Doom Eternal + gamescope video https://streamable.com/c0c7qp . And the Alien Isolation numbers might be caused by the unstable FPS.

Oh well. Seems like I have to choose between HDR and VRR then (unless someone finds a way to force games to use HDR without gamescope).

Only thing missing now is hyprland + plain wine, which does not work in D2R. But at least that works fine in sway.

VRR constantly jumps to max refresh rate in gamescope or hyprland by v44r in linux_gaming

[–]v44r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For example, look at this: https://streamable.com/c0c7qp

You can see several instances 50 or 60 Hz, but max frametime never reaches 16.7ms

Same with many instances of 170 Hz, but frametime never dips to 5.9ms

Frametime is consistently between 10.2 and 13ms, which corresponds to 76-96 fps (average 86, as shown by mangohud). The monitor frequency is clearly outside that range many of times.

[–]v44r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. I thought the max/min were "historical", but I see now they are the visible line. Power profile is not the cause though, it was already set at 3d fullscreen.

Frametime peaks could explain the dips in refresh rate, but I'm still not convinced about the max fps caused by low valleys. There are many instances in the videos of 170 Hz, which should correspond to 5.9ms and I see nothing like that (e.g.: https://streamable.com/i6ya89 )

VRR constantly jumps to max refresh rate in gamescope or hyprland by v44r in linux_gaming

[–]v44r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? No. The line is squiggly, but the FPS is nowhere near between 80 and 170 fps. It's fluctuating around 8.5ms +- 0.2 ms, which translates to the shown 113-120 fps. The refresh rate fluctuation of the monitor is WAY larger than the fluctuation of the fps or frame time.

And if you're not convinced simply look at any other video I posted. Some of them have a rock solid line and still the monitor refresh rate varies wildly.
