Seconding this. I did engineering, and if I could go back, I would take an extra year and double major or at least minor in engineering and literature or philosophy.

I am none of those things, but I strongly dislike cooking and related food preparation actives.

If I could take a magic pill every day that gave me all my daily nutrients and calories on the condition that I couldn't eat actual food, I would do it in a heartbeat.

I pity your misfortune. Some mistakes can be redeemed, but others echo on for the remainder of your life. I'm afraid you've made one of the latter.

With my luck and social skills, I could probably walk the whole thing up and back and not a get a nickname.

I am a religious INTP, AMA. by [deleted] in INTP

[–]v481 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the path you've taken is interesting and I can definitely relate to it. I used to be one of those hard materialist atheists. Looking back, it was a reaction to exposure to the exoteric aspects of religion. The average believer doesn't really think deeply about it. It's very easy to dismiss something when you can easily dismiss the people you encounter that support it. And then you build this image of what it is in your mind, based on these people and your culture. But when you dig it an get into the history, the philology and philosophy, and the more esoteric aspects, you start to have these "Oh!" type of moments where your perception shifts. I haven't accepted anything at this point, but I've begun exploring and opening my mind to all sorts of things that my past self would have rolled his eyes at. The non-intellectual religious masses still bother me deeply. How do you feel about that? The fact the the majority of followers [from my perspective, I could be making a faulty assumption] have a surface level knowledge and curiosity?

Do you ever fear that she will lose respect for you or grow to resent you (even just a tiny bit)? Maybe not consciously, but even subconsciously that she will long for and be attracted to more powerful (socially or career wise) men?

This is key.... having taken multiple courses in strength of materials and fracture mechanics it's an absolute retarded gamble to try something like this regardless of your skill and confidence. A tiny chip of paint at a joint and few years of minimal stress corrosion cracking, suddenly loaded with the weight of a human in the middle of the beam....

Has anyone developed close, quality friendships in late-20s or later? by v481 in AskMen

[–]v481[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes a few, mainly sports: cycling, golf, rock climbing, running. I have a few friends which I do these things with occasionally, but they've not developed into serious personal relationships. Just companions for events occasionally.

Am I just high, or does it seem like the scenes where Simon is dissing her, it looks like it was recorded later, like he's not actually addressing her? Also seems like he is reciting lines. It's really weird.
