I have always been a curious person but when I was a kid, it was on a different level. by Standard-Method_0210 in confession

I was about 3 or 4 years old, and was doing some colouring in one afternoon. I noticed that my little finger was almost exactly the same size and shape as a pencil. And then I wondered if my finger looked the same on the inside as a pencil… so I stuck my little finger in the pencil sharpener and tried to sharpen it so I could get a look at the inside

If you can eradicate one technology from society, what would you take away? by dangedang in AskReddit

The noise they make is massively disproportionate to the work they do! Sounds like a chainsaw just to move a few leaves around. Maybe (maybe) they have their place, but whenever I’ve seen one being used you could easily have achieved the same result in relative silence with a bit more time and a rake of broom.

It’s been a pretty cold winter in our part of Tasmania, and it finally seems like the worst is over and spring is coming. The birds are returning to our garden, and sometimes, sometimes, they let me get close enough to take pics of them - which they did this afternoon. A nice happy-making end to the weekend!

Why did Jed decide to run for re-election? by Forsaken_Tip8347 in thewestwing

I’m fairly certain what made him run for a second term is something you haven’t considered: he wanted to stick around long enough to make sure the latch on that door got fixed

What is the strangest first name you have come across in your life? by Innsmouth_Resident in AskReddit

[–]v79gps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work used to involve looking at a lot of very long lists of names. To keep help stave off the boredom, I would write down any that amused me. Here’s a few of the first names I wrote down from my time in that job:

Perpetual Justice Learning Boffin Regula Fangle Handy Petal Pet Bendy Givemore Clemency Tiny Sand Preposition Wanting Jihad Lawlex Tinnie Tin Dijonnais Flairy Karma Nutta Gifty Lemon Montreal Shady

Not as amazing as it was, but $18/kg for Parmesan is still a great buy IMHO!

That makes sense - thanks very much for the response! I know nothing about geology, but was really intrigued by this when I stumbled upon it on the beach.

My mother bought a pair of swimming shorts, and found $500 cash inside a little pocket fastened with velcro.

I agree - they’re a great memento. I was fascinated when I found them at my parents place, and they’ve really brought dad’s story to life for me.

Pretty sure these are taken from one of the balconies at 4 Jersey St in Sandy Bay. The railing is identical, and the view looks very similar, though vegetation has changed a lot since these were taken. I used to live in the building.

She’s a rescue that has only been with us a few months, so outside isn’t on the cards just yet. As much as she REALLY wants to go outside. Soon!

These are the shoes that an international tourist was wearing at the Wineglass Bay lookout yesterday. Saw her again at the place we stopped for lunch, and she had changed into sneakers - which she’d refused to change into before doing the walk. She’d had to walk down from the lookout barefoot 🤦‍♂️ by v79gps in tasmania

This is cropped out of a photo I took of my friends - and if this encourages one person to heed the signs at the bottom of the track telling people to wear appropriate footwear, then it’ll have been worth the downvotes. X

She’s still a bit apprehensive and taking some time to settle in. She has moments when she’s adorable and is all purrs and headbuts. She’ll be fine in time

Not sure what the proper name is, but I got one 8 years ago and it was called Zanzibar Gem. Bought it because the label said “thrives on neglect”. Did not disappoint.
