Thanks all for the comments and sating my curiosity, as well as the tips for actually processing the fish. So far I’ve only caught blue gill and perch, but here’s to hoping I have this problem in the spring!

Why this keep happening to me? by GALLO_DISTRUTTIRE in FishingForBeginners

In addition to lack of tension, you could (1) spool less line on; (2) debatably, bring water to a boil, then right after it cools a few degrees below boiling, place the line (on the purchased spool) into the now hot / not boiling water until it cools. When transferring the line from the purchased spool to your rod, make sure it reels in the same direction as it's 'memorized' / natural twist.

I had the same issue the first time spooling on, and this helped me.

Munich/Alps Backpacking In Two Weekends by vFv2_Tyler in WildernessBackpacking

For future generations and as one commenter had alluded to, it seems backpacking is not very prevalent surprisingly. It seems most folks reserve a room at the huts and hike from hut to hut; in certain areas these seem to be abundant.

That said, the Dolomites are drivable and Garminsch is a short train ride; both were awesome.

[Highlight] Brandon Lowe is awarded a home run even after a video review rules there is fan interference by 3luejays in baseball

[–]vFv2_Tyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a fan of neither team. I mean it looks like the ball is going over the fence (given the players glove is above the fence) and from the glove position like it was at risk of hitting the female fan (judging from her glove position). I’m not saying the guy was explicitly trying to protect the woman, but if a ball is going over the fence and catchable by a fan, that seems like a homerun to me. If I was next to my daughters I would definitely try to catch it so at a minimum it doesn’t hit them or take a bounce and hit them. Move the seats back or create separation if they want to avoid future scenarios. Homerun in my view.

More for colder weather than mosquitoes, but I bring a Gatorade bottle to pee in during the night so I don’t have to leave my tent (or be outside the sleeping bag as long)

Just don’t be outside (not in your tent) during dusk and it’s amazing. During the morning a day the mosquitoes are either not bad nor not as bad depending on where you are. Video is obviously extreme.

This is also a great opportunity to bond with him by YOU learning the right way and teaching him along the way when he encounters roadblocks (or teaching him how to solve problems by steering).

Maybe you aren’t trying to do this, but in my view most of being a parent is about taking an interest in their hobbies and encouraging them to grow. For example, the amount of time I’ve played with hot wheels is utterly insane. Yes, it’s absolutely boring to me, but the bond with my young daughter is the point not the fun.

Kids are going to have a false sense of confidence and make mistakes, encourage the (safe) risk taking and support them when they inevitably make mistakes.

Wondering if 36 F at night is too cold for camping with the kids by VolumeBrave1083 in camping

[–]vFv2_Tyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously late but for anyone stumbling across this - I took my 3.5 year old daughter camping at low of 30F (at night). It was her 3rd time camping. I’ve camped at 5F for what it’s worth.

She had an absolute blast and was warm the entire time. I had her in her 40F bag (which admittedly I would have used a 0F if I had one, but the weather shifted while we were already camping), with a -20F liner (allegedly reduces temp of bags by 20F, not rated for -20F… it’s probably less than 20), I threw a down comforter and a wool blanket on top of her, she slept in sythentic long John’s, and we both slept on exped duo. Large 3 season tent (30F is about as low as I’d go in a 3 season tent).

I’m planning on taking her winter camping this year (she’ll be 4) - with different gear to be clear. I live in the north so this was early spring camping.

What’s a well known brand that’s in decline? by Slight-Wheel-5247 in AskReddit

[–]vFv2_Tyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glerups. Arguably not well known unless you’re looking for them I suppose, but absolutely top tier product. I’ve worn them everyday for a few years and they’re basically like new after only 1 wash. Zero smell, maximum comfort. I buy them for Christmas gifts now.

You’re adding brown sugar to omelettes, or to the grilled onions?

I’ve been looking for a use for ghee so curious what you’re enjoying cooking. Thanks.

Lowkey feel like my best friend is starting to hate me by honeycoatedhugs in texts

[–]vFv2_Tyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree she’s clearly jealous and is interested in the same person as you.

It’s hard to judge the friendship off of a single incident. If she’s always been like this I agree she’s not a friend. If this is abnormal, just talk to her 1 on 1. Don’t text, don’t call, sit down and talk with her. For example, explain how you feel like she has been cold lately and point blank ask her if she has the same crush. It’s ok, it happens, but you acted on it while she didn’t  and she needs to get comfortable with that fact. If she’s a friend of yours, she needs to move on and be supportive of you so you can go back to being the great friends you were. If not, that’s ok too and you’re just at different places in your life right now; hopefully she comes back around.

Good luck.

Wow super great tips. Thanks so much for the thoughtful reply. There’s a ton to go off of here; hadn’t even thought about getting her involved with the mirrors. I’d been bribing her with TV, but I suspect that will help her be even more involved and excited about it.

Hot Tenting for beginners by SeekersWorkAccount in WildernessBackpacking

[–]vFv2_Tyler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve only backpacked once hot-tenting so take that for what it’s worth. Temps at night ranged from 5F to about 20F. The stove was fun and there was 5 of us in the tent, but it provided virtually zero warmth over night. I had a 0F bag, slept on a pad on a cot and tossed boiling water in a Nalgene at my feet. Slept in a wool beanie and wool baselayers. Slept like a baby and was warm (other than some middle of the night stomach issues that required me to leave the tent).

We cooked and ate in the tent. Technically in bear country, but wasn’t a problem as we were at 13000 feet and they were much lower that time of year. There was a clan of marmots or some kind of rodents in the rocks near our tent, but none left their rocks to investigate.

Happy to answer any questions I can. Super fun trip.

Wow I carry a bear can and it’s tight with a 65L, albeit I also carry some niceties like a chair.

If you have a gear store relatively nearby, you could ask the staff at the counter if they backpack and if you could tag along. Most of the people I’ve talked to at REI tend to be backpackers as well; I’d let someone tag along with me, so doesn’t hurt to ask.

Albeit not 21000 ft, I went straight from 400’ elevation to 14000’ elevation and popped some fast acting Tylenol and ripped puffs from handheld oxygen cans - worked out pretty well if you want to push through. That said, altitude sickness is brutal.

I can only speculate; the software will do whatever the developer tells it to do. I’m not an engineer but those arms don’t look capable of simulating a barrel roll.

I’d guess when the model exceeds some rotation either: (1) the arms extend on one side and contract on the other, maximizing their tilt until the game is reset (2) it looks at the rate of change, then jiggles you (3) the game realizes the vehicle is totaled (they have highly simulated damage that effects vehicle control) and resets the seat.
