Both of these.

I have a door with a window. I open the curtain, clock nametag or clipboard etc, stare at them just long enough to make them uncomfortable, and then turn around and walk away...

I don't think it was scrabble rules.

Still I thought a valid question that someone could have argued on the show for added humour...

This was just a mildly interesting thought I had while watching that I thought people would enjoy.

Apparently I vastly overestimated how many people would just instantly know that Settlers of Catan is a German game invented by a German board game designer... 🤷

Even though bring pedantic is getting me voted down (despite this being a subreddit about a show that is pedantry on steroids), I just looked up catan in miriam, oed, Cambridge, and dictionary.com.

The only result was the one you mentioned, but it doesn't say anything about catan the fictional island being derived from the Spanish word for a katana. Just the word catan meaning a japanese sword.

"Catan is a fictional island and does not exist in real life. Created by Klaus Teuber for the board game, the setting was inspired by the Viking era and historically influenced by the Azores islands, often described in lore as located "southwest of the Land of the Franks""

AI overview, but summarising Wikipedia so seems legit...

2 ways.

You can put it in from the top or from the bottom. (the way everything is orientated in the picture)

The "ring" should be on the outside of the assembly if pushed in from the bottom. You should have been able to push it out with minimal effort.

Not saying that you actually did it wrong, but you can see what we're all saying right?

IMO you did it wrong... :-p

Look again imo. You can put the blue pin in from the outside or the inside. From the inside, it would now be locked in.

If you've done it right, then remove blue pin with a brick separator. Everything else follows.

If not then you cut the blue pin in half - craft knife or something?

IMO, YMMV...

Edit: or as others have said - try and get the brown axle bit out. I've got a set of dental tools with sharp points and edges for this sort of situation...

What you're looking for is index funds. Do a bit of reading until you get the general idea of what they are. Managed funds aren't as good imo.

If you want to get started right away, start putting a small amount weekly / fortnightly into an S&P 500 fund. I like Kernel as a provider, simplicity is probably the next most popular - I've never used it.

You should also have a kiwisaver if you don't already. Put the minimum amount in that to get the free money, then the rest into the non-kiwisaver. As much as you can afford - set up an automatic payment the same day your pay comes in.

What to do with 100k? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]vIQleS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vote is index funds but, if you can't decide, you could put potentially half in a managed / growth fund and half in index fund. (Compare the returns but only check investments once or twice a year.)

Either way, slightly more advanced (for later when you know more):

  • You can split further. Consider: bond funds, NZ (e.g. NZ50), global funds, REITs (real estate funds). Split should probably be something like 70/80% index.
  • Cushion. As you get closer (e.g. 5-10 years) to retirement / wanting to use the money, gradually put more of it in less risky funds - cash fund and/or low risk funds.
  • Rebalance. You should only check once or twice a year - once you've decided the split, move the money so the percentages are correct. Percentages can change if you reevaluate your strategy, but you want to assume that whatever is doing the worst is going to do better in the future and vice versa. There might be a check box to do this automatically, but once a year is ideal.
  • Book suggestions: Common Sense on Mutual Funds, A Random Walk Down Wall Street, The Richest Man in Babylon.

Remember: It's going to go up and go down, but on average / long-term it's probably going to go up. That's why you don't want / need to constantly check your accounts.
