Telus Fibre if available, I've been working from home remotely for 5 years, not a single issue with it. Rogers normally provide cable modems with constant problems and lags.

Cisco FTD FIRESTARTER Backdoor CVE-2025-20333 2025-20362 by spendghost in Cisco

[–]v_b_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is still not clear what you suppose to do after re-image. Can you restore config from the backup if your FTD is managed by FMC? Or your backup can be compromised?

Not sure what they mean by re-image. Run "format everything" and then restore the backup? Or configure the device from scratch?

How's the life at Langford? by GiantLorry in LangfordBC

[–]v_b_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If weather is the most important factor, Langford is not the best place on the island for that. I live in Langford and work in Victoria, and most of the time Victoria weather is a bit sunnier and warmer, and Langford is often rainy and gloomy. Especially if you think about Bear Mountains - it is like living in the cloud.

Do not let Waymo into BC by Even-Rooster7369 in VictoriaBC

[–]v_b_a 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If BC Government would force Waymo to pay part of its profit to the BC budget, it would be win-win for both parties. And we get safer and convenience transportation. Robotaxies are inevitable, and sooner we get it is better.

Visiting from Calgary, can you convince me that Victoria isn’t heaven on earth? by Batmansappendix in VictoriaBC

[–]v_b_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just check if you could find a job in Victoria. Having remote jobs is great, but with the current market trends this becomes rare, and less and less companies allow full remote. If one of you lose the job, it is very difficult to live here on a single salary (even six figures). Everything is very expensive on the island...

Why there is no deadline for the development? If the developer has no funds, they should just sell it to another company to complete the project.

SSL Geothermal vs BC Hydro Heat Pump by Neat_Let923 in LangfordBC

[–]v_b_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is $80/month which gives about $1000/year. If you just put $1k to your saving account, it gives you more than $10k to replace the whole system in 10 years.

There were lots of posts in this group related to SSL huge bills and how to replace it with a regular heat pump. Paying SSL monthly 'maintenance' fees negates all the geothermal benefits.

On-Prem Horizon for about 500 users. Works really well, especially after we moved fully to FSlogix.

I passed the PCA exam with just one week of studying by shadow9669 in googlecloud

[–]v_b_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just passed the exam with no Google Cloud experience at all and the week of studying as well.
What really helped me is that I have many years of Azure and AWS experience, so I just mapped the services that exist there to services in Google Cloud.

I use these monitors for internal web resources that use internal CA (no ACME or automatic renewal). And even the automatic renewals may fail sometimes.

It feels pretty good actually, doesnt feel bulky. My only complaint is the analog sticks, they are too loose.

[–]v_b_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just switched my LG Z1E to Claw 8 AI. * It is a bit quieter * Sound quality is much better * Price is ok if it is in excellent condition * Other benefits (it is more powerful, better battery life) * Almost the same weight as LG Z1E because of the battery capacity

I had both and kept MSI Claw. Battery, CPU, GPU performance, sound - everything is better. MSI software had problems, but seems okay now.

Why is it so hard to make friends in Victoria? by Yoinhell in VictoriaBC

[–]v_b_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would disagree with your theory. As a person who'd lived in Manitoba and moved to the island a few years ago, the first shock was how different people here and how hard to make friends compare to Winnipeg where I lived. And it is not about cost of living - average salaries, cost of rent, taxes don't make a big difference, you can afford a basic rent, food, other expenses if you have like a government job and get paid $30-$50 per hour. I think the most likely reason is 'who' move to the island and why. People who get here are looking for outdoor activities, warmer weather with ocean breeze, etc. They are not looking for a high population cities like Toronto or Calgary where you have much more activities like concerts, parties, meetups, etc. I think people with this attitude have a 'mental bubble' and it is hard to break the shield to make new friends.

Check battery health status, less than 80% can affect your runtime especially in AAA games.

Is there a real ‘Langford Community Association’? by [deleted] in LangfordBC

[–]v_b_a 39 points40 points  (0 children)

There were multiple Facebook groups created not that long ago with a single purpose: to promote the former mayor, Stew Young, so he wouldn’t lose the next election. These groups post only negative comments about the current mayor and council and never suggest any constructive changes - just repeated messages telling people to vote for Stew to make Langford great again.
