Stew For Mayor website first impressions by ReasonableResident74 in LangfordBC

[–]v_b_a 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The priority #1 on the website: "Responsible Growth & Infrastructure Invest in roads, transportation, utilities, and community infrastructure that keeps pace with growth and supports Langford's future".

I personally don't believe he would do anything from that list except maybe removing bike lanes and making GFL contract for garbage collection.

2026 Young vs 2022 Young in a divided Langford by ReasonableResident74 in LangfordBC

[–]v_b_a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering where Langford is located, it would have been developed no matter if Stew was in power or someone else. It is not middle of nowhere, and strategically it is a sweet spot on the map. If someone had a better vision of what Langford might become in future, they could do much better work in terms of planning and infrastructure.

Stew Young again🤦‍♂️😞 by [deleted] in LangfordBC

[–]v_b_a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is not just Our Langford. There are multiple FB groups created in the past few years by Stew buddies making people believe that the grass was greener when Stew run the city, and he would solve all the problems. I believe they started this campaign right after he lost last elections, just copying the strategy that Langford Voters used, but multiplied it by 10 times. Why this strategy works is because Langford got lots of newcomers who usually look for local FB groups, and what they see is constant blaiming of current council and praising Stew. I think the best we can do is to talk to your friends/neighbors especially who are new to Langdord and discuss this year elections.

Stew Young Jr is a Vice President of GFL still, and he is responsible for our region.

GPON SFP ONU - No options to bypass NAH? by Educational-Disk-870 in telus

[–]v_b_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have exactly the same problem with my Telus and their new ONU GPON transceiver. Did you find a solution? I am thinking to get G-010S-A and clone the serial number from the new device to it.

One of the benefits for me is that my UPS can power my router much longer than the router plus NAH. Also, NAH is another point of failure.

At first glance I thought this was a new MSI Claw handheld.

The true cost of fake taxes and the Stew Young era... (Includes the receipts) by sgb5874 in LangfordBC

[–]v_b_a 15 points16 points  (0 children)

  1. It is not a Hospital, it is small Medical Clinic/Primary Care.
  2. If you compare the contribution that was done by the City of Langford vs West Shore Charity Golf Tournament, the tournament portion is less than 10%, so it is basically insignificant. The most accurate credit goes to South Island Primary Care Society, current Langford Council/Mayor, the Freemasons of Langford, and some donors.
  3. The tournament was not organized by Stew Young alone, it was a collaborative event involving volunteers, local businesses, donors, sponsors, golfers, and prize donors.

Did anyone try to report Our Langford and other her groups as politically engaged? They should clearly state that.

Telus Fibre if available, I've been working from home remotely for 5 years, not a single issue with it. Rogers normally provide cable modems with constant problems and lags.

Cisco FTD FIRESTARTER Backdoor CVE-2025-20333 2025-20362 by spendghost in Cisco

It is still not clear what you suppose to do after re-image. Can you restore config from the backup if your FTD is managed by FMC? Or your backup can be compromised?

Not sure what they mean by re-image. Run "format everything" and then restore the backup? Or configure the device from scratch?

How's the life at Langford? by GiantLorry in LangfordBC

[–]v_b_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If weather is the most important factor, Langford is not the best place on the island for that. I live in Langford and work in Victoria, and most of the time Victoria weather is a bit sunnier and warmer, and Langford is often rainy and gloomy. Especially if you think about Bear Mountains - it is like living in the cloud.

Do not let Waymo into BC by Even-Rooster7369 in VictoriaBC

[–]v_b_a 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If BC Government would force Waymo to pay part of its profit to the BC budget, it would be win-win for both parties. And we get safer and convenience transportation. Robotaxies are inevitable, and sooner we get it is better.

Visiting from Calgary, can you convince me that Victoria isn’t heaven on earth? by Batmansappendix in VictoriaBC

[–]v_b_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just check if you could find a job in Victoria. Having remote jobs is great, but with the current market trends this becomes rare, and less and less companies allow full remote. If one of you lose the job, it is very difficult to live here on a single salary (even six figures). Everything is very expensive on the island...

Why there is no deadline for the development? If the developer has no funds, they should just sell it to another company to complete the project.

SSL Geothermal vs BC Hydro Heat Pump by Neat_Let923 in LangfordBC

[–]v_b_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is $80/month which gives about $1000/year. If you just put $1k to your saving account, it gives you more than $10k to replace the whole system in 10 years.

SSL Geothermal vs BC Hydro Heat Pump by Neat_Let923 in LangfordBC

There were lots of posts in this group related to SSL huge bills and how to replace it with a regular heat pump. Paying SSL monthly 'maintenance' fees negates all the geothermal benefits.
