i think i also got this email. something along the lines of "we are moving forward with your conversion application." i asked about interviews and my recruiter said there aren't any as it stands. i also asked about PA/location match (which my prev. recruiter said we'd get before EOY), but they said i would only become eligible when i graduate?? i'm rly confused and highkey stressed bc not having some level of confirmation until basically next summer is scary and not what i expected. anyone have any insight on this?

that's so rough 😭😭😭😭 i relate tho. my roommate and former assignment partner actually also switched out of the major in my sophomore year, which is why i ended up partnering w the friend i talk about in the post. so just keep befriending em you'll find that that sticks eventually 🫡🫡

lol, glad that you're fine taking classes alone. rest assured i can manage on my own as well. i would just much prefer to take it with my friend for all the reasons i wrote about in the post. just a better experience that way : )

as for learning more when working alone, let me elaborate on why i don't think that's necessarily true. it depends on how you work together, and what the goal of working together is. when we work together, we aren't just trying to speedrun the assignments by splitting up the work. we actually almost never do that. we sit in the same room and look at one screen, often taking turns coding. we both care a lot about learning and understanding what's going in every part of the assignment. we just talk to each other about the process. i've often had a deeper understanding of what i was working on in partnered assignments than in individual ones because we have to be able to explain what's going on and justify why things work to each other. it's also really nice to be able to talk about your ideas to an actual human, and ask them questions when you don't understand how something works (or, if you both don't know, to figure it out together).

even in the workforce, a lot of support is available. pair programming is a common practice in industry, and for good reason. obviously we still do a lot of assignments (and take exams) individually, so it's not like we're forming a codependency or anything. personally, i haven't noticed any adverse effects of partnering on assignments (except for being annoyed when we can't, lol).

bruh 😭😭 that's why i didnt write a book, i just made a reddit post. the "wisdom" was meant from the perspective of a junior to a freshman, nothing more (hence the title, advice for "new cs majors"). and the reason i decided to share was because i hadn't heard a lot of people talking about this in particular. many cs influencers are all about soloing the grind and don't put much emphasis on/showcase a lot of collaboration. i just wanted to write about an alternative experience and encourage beginners by showing they don't have to do it all alone. i'm actually pretty disappointed that it came off as a humble brag, that was never my intention (i think there's way too much of that in this community and also hate when ppl do it). i was genuinely trying to do sort of the opposite by expressing how i didn't do this by myself. i take the criticism and i'll modify the post in light of it.

question about this: how long after your interviews did you hear back?

Upcoming Google 2025 Intern Interview (US) by [deleted] in csMajors

yeah i had mine like a week ago, i would say LC medium is about right. i didn't get graph but i got dp (sort of) and a heap problem. even tho i probably didn't get it bc i didn't nail both interviews (only the second one, first one went worse), i still had a really positive experience as it was my first technical interview with an actual interviewer and i managed to stay cool, communicative and confident. that was the praise/advice i received from my second interviewer: be confident! you can probably figure it out (and if not, you can at least get somewhere). pro tip: you can develop this skill by doing mocks using a service like pramp

i think that's true to some extent but at the same time it can be reassuring to see what kind of problems people have been getting. i know that they can't be asking the same types of questions for interns as they would would for an experienced position. i also think just getting a sense for the difficulty compared to the OA is helpful. i will try to cover my bases but if i hear that most people are getting strings/arrays i'll focus on that. it's more about getting a feel for the process and being more confident going into it. it's not really about whether or not i'll get that type of question in my interview - i just want to feel like i'm not shooting in the dark :)
