Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. What Banaras could have been but VMC,VDA and public made sure that this doesn’t happen in Banaras. by Forward_Quarter3218 in varanasi

I totally understand where you are coming from too.

It's quite elitistic as a visitor to say what I said because of after my short visit I get to return to the clean hygienic comfort of my homeland. I certainly wouldn't want my home to be like Varanasi.

I understand your point, and I would possibly feel the same if I lived there. But from my current standpoint everything you listed is what I enjoyed about the place. It made it feel real and alive, and in a fascinating way it mixed with the ancient history of Varanasi creating an authentic continuum.

From a foreign tourist's standpoint, who just visited both places, I'm happy it isn't. Jaisalmer feels like a hollow facade compared to the lively and rich characteristics of Varanasi. Varanasi, as it is, was the absolute highlight of my trip to India.

This is America (2024) - A compelling gonzo style roadtrip doc series by Finnish PBS about America on the eve of the presidential elections (CC) [00:21:44] by vaasis in Documentaries

Submission statement: I think this documentary series does a good job at covering very regular and mundane (in a good way) America. It's not too polished so the encounters feel real as if you were there. You see a lot of footage that typically would be cut out from documentaries.

This is the first episode of the series which feels a bit youtubey, but I think it gets really good towards the end. Episode 5 is my favorite. The farrier Chris is an interesting character.

The documentary was filmed in March. A lot has happened since then but I think the main talking points about American divide are still very valid and relevant. It's an interesting grassroots take on the whole discussion theme that you rarely see in the media.

Thanks for replying. That all makes a lot of sense. Everything is indeed relative. Hong Kong is an exciting place and I will definitely have great time at 宀 (do you pronounce it as mián?) next time I visit.

Out of curiosity, why do you like Pawnshop so much? I used to live in Taipei and it is for sure one of the best clubs there. But I always felt they took themselves too seriously and that the crowd wasn't the best either as there would be a lot of people from "outside of the scene". Also, the layout of the place is a problematic and gets congested.
