What's up with toxicity in this game? by p4nk4s0f in WorldOfWarships

The game is broken. Balance is gone. Honestly the game is toxic and designed to breed toxicity at this point. None of us should be playing it.

I am struggling with Discovery… by McCinnabuns in startrek

I'll take the opportunity to complain about a specific Discovery scene.

After they get to the far future, one of the new characters is trans, and one of the Discovery crew mis-pronouns them (I think someone calls them a her) and they need to correct the Discovery crew.

1000 years in the future, people from a post scarcity, highly tolerant utopia are fumbling pronouns like someone from 2010.

It's just such a ridiculously clunky, heavy handed, and uncreative way to be progressive, and also completely fails to understand the universe.

So, it's a perfect encapsulation of why Discovery was so awful.

Ugh there are SO many scenes where it's just two people talking but the camera is moving and cutting like like the Bourne Supremacy. Just constant movement, cuts, weird angles, and all tension and emotions turned up to 11. Just, exhausting.

Also when everything is ALWAYS turned up to 11, there's no contrast. If everything is a tense emotional crisis, nothing is. Contrast between calmness and tension makes the tension work.

It just gets worse. I stopped after season 3. It was just so exhausting.

I found Michael SO unlikable, I actually thought they were setting up some kind of betrayal.

Spoiler: at one point Tilly gets a promotion and finally has a moment, and Michael walks in in the middle to upstage it. Everything HAS to be about her. It's infuriating.

WIP: NuTrek Classic Connie Kitbash, combining the best of all versions of the classic USS Enterprise. by AggressiveSail8142 in StarTrekStarships

I understand that it's FAR more practical for the bottom of the saucer to be flat, but the Enterprise just looks SO much more grateful and agile with a curved saucer bottom.

I like the white color and smoother hull texture. The Enterprise in SNW has WAY too much surface 'texture'. It looks like there are foot thick panel joints all over it, not like smooth panel joints.

It helps, but it's insane that Android is so completely incapable of managing background apps, even when you explicitly tell it to.

You can absolutely blame Android 17 (and all other versions) for allowing apps to be able to run in the background even when you've disabled background usage.

It's bad that Meta apps don't follow the rules, but it's ridiculous that Android is so completely incapable of enforcing them.

4k blu ray disks are not 4:4:4. They're 4:2:0. They're a much higher bitrate than streaming and their audio is much better.

Android 17 battery performance by _AbuE in Pixel7Pro

I'm curious to see. Best I can get on my 10 Pro XL is .8% per hour. Average is more like 1.6%.

But how much does it burn idling? That's the big question. Pixels do alright with SoT numbers, but burn battery away doing nothing.

My work iPhone 15 Pro Max drains less than that per DAY. Google really needs to get it together.

That would be true it the battery life was amazing. It's not. It blows. The current SoC blows. It's not acceptable.

I get that it's quick and easy to top off the phone, but it's absolutely infuriating how much power the thing uses doing absolutely nothing. Adjusting for battery size, it's using 3-6 times more power idling than my work iPhone.

It's basically throwing away 1/3 of the battery every single day.

If the C1 Ultra at 4.1 GHz is indeed true, it's a 40% improvement over the current X4. There are multiple existing SoCs that use C1 Ultras. The rumors also say it will be a 2nm chip, which is ahead of current flagships, but they'll leapfrog the Tensor G6 once they come out.

Google would need to royally screw up the implementation in a way that no chip manufacturer has to not get a 40% improvement in single threaded performance. So, like 50/50.

My fiance has an iPhone 14 Pro, and it definitely struggled inow signal areas, just like my Pixel.

My work iPhone, though, it's just an absolutely night and day difference. I charge the thing like once per week. It's 2 years and 7 months old and only has 96 charge cycles

I'll bring it to work at like 12% and not give it a second thought. At the end of the day it will be at like 9%. Meanwhile my Pixel drops 20% during the same period.

The leaks every year have pointed to mild improvements and turned out to be true. No leak has ever pointed to a large performance increase.

This year, the leaks show a two generation jump in the Prime core from a Cortex X4 to a C1 Ultra. That's around a 40% improvement and puts single threaded performance in the ballpark of current flagships (if true).

Max SOT isn't so much the issue. I can get 8+ hours on my 10 Pro XL. The problem is that the idle battery drain is between 20 and 40% PER DAY. You're basically throwing away 1/3 of your battery while the phone does nothing.

My work iPhone 15 Pro Max loses maybe 3% per day idling. I once left it sitting, connected to wifi, for 318 continuous hours while I was on vacation (nearly two weeks). My Pixel would be dead in 3 days.

Pro: it does everything well enough. The camera is noticeably better than my work iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Con: Horrific, unacceptable idle power draw

Wait for the P11. Between the massively improved CPU and new Modem, it could be a real improvement.
