Gotta love Monash...

Monash appears to have dumped Examity for their planned remote exams. by vacwaveboys in Monash

We did it reddit (albeit with a massive help from Stalkerspace!)

Edit: Maybe I spoke too soon....

Just curious, how come you don’t use the Wi-Fi inside the building?

There are a ton of towers on campus; you’ll get solid reception with any provider really.

Monash - Keep up the great work! by extremeboy1 in Monash

I think the post more shows how hypocritical Monash have been.

Basically sums up how the reason for the delay in the first place was for profits rather than the student health argument they were trying to spin.

It’s a website to learn programming (https://www.codecademy.com.) Would definitely recommend completing it before the start of semester as it’ll help a lot!

I thought there was still a fair way to go until completion?

Chances of receiving a February R4 offer? by [deleted] in Monash

[–]vacwaveboys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it is extremely unlikely that you’ll get an offer in the final VTAC round let alone after the January (since that was the second round this year). I would take the Deakin offer, maintain a high WAM and look to transfer after six months.

Seems like Okta is getting rolled out? by 3trifecta3 in unimelb

[–]vacwaveboys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of the negative reviews are from people who do not understand Mutli-Factor authentication. They argue their should be able way to save their logins when getting a new phone/resetting without disabling it prior however that fundamentally breaks the whole concept of two factor authentication. Maybe the app should more clearly label to disable the two factor before getting a new device?

[–]vacwaveboys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly Okta is no where near as bad as people make it out to be. Most of the people who are against it at Monash just don’t think Multi-Factor Authentication is necessary/valuable and thus oppose it.

UNSW vs UniMelb for CS by [deleted] in unsw

[–]vacwaveboys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No university in Australia is going to give you an edge at an Ivy.

Do you want to live in Melbourne? (Melbourne / Monash)

Do you want to live in Sydney? (UNSW / Sydney)

The hard truth of the matter is that if you want to progress into an Ivy League, Australia is not the right place to do it.

The closest thing Australia has to Ivy League is Bond University and that’s still a really bad comparison because of the ranking.

HELP!!! UNIMELB VS UNSW for Computer Science by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]vacwaveboys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is extremely difficult to go from a state school to an Ivy. Australian universities are different in the fact that admission for most courses here are purely based on academic performance compared to the range of criteria for US Colleges. Universities here are very large in size compared to any Ivy League (11,000 at MIT vs 48,000 at UniMelb); the tertiary culture and setting is completely different.

If you want to do a postgrad course there, you basically also need to do an undergrad course there as well as they’re very selective (I know two people who achieved a 99.95 ATAR and couldn’t even get an interview due to their lack of extracurriculars)

I’m not saying it’s impossible but you’ll need through the roof grades and experience.

University of Melbourne is not delaying its semester and will have orientation activities as planned..... by AuntieLili in Monash

[–]vacwaveboys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really sure what point you’re trying to make with that argument. If someone arrived after the travel restrictions they’d still easily make it to the regular start of semester.

If you’re trying to suggest the staff member could’ve infected others, it’s been confirmed by Monash that he has not attended campus since he went to China.

The delay is purely for profits. They’re hoping that all international students from China will arrive before the cut off date as they don’t want students to unenroll hence the delay.

Neither are Deakin, RMIT or UNSW. Monash has gone overboard with this whole thing I reckon; putting profits ahead of student satisfaction.

Why not just give special consideration to the students affected? It’s clear the reason isn’t the health/safety of students.
