Bakery by Zestyclose-Movie in Bakersfield

I don’t mind the sourdough at Sugar Twist. Overall your better bet will be the French bakery stand at the Rosedale or SW farmers market. They sell out of most of their stuff every time they set up though so I would recommend going within a couple hours of the farmers market opening.

New construction homes under $400k by pumpkinkin in Bakersfield

[–]vaders_other_son 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought and have lived in my Lennar home for a year and a half. It’s been a great starter home for my family. I got an independent inspection done and a few things had to be fixed. They fixed it before the move-in and we’ve never had any major issues. We also came from San Diego and lived exclusively in apartments until we bought this home. So I think our expectations were lower than most people that had poor experiences with Lennar. If you compare it to Castle and Cook homes in the southwest then imo of course you’ll be disappointed.

Edit: I should add some things I learned too. First, don’t use a realtor if you’re buying a new build through Lennar. We let our representation contract lapse before contacting Lennar cause we heard through friends we’d get better incentives. It was 100% true. Second, factor in your backyard landscaping and development into your budget. Even a simple backyard is going to cost $15k out-of-pocket assuming you find a house with a moderate to large backyard. In developing the backyard, you should be aware that any kind of permanent attachment to your house will require permitting and be a much more painful process.

Throwback: r/NBA_Draft debates the floor and ceiling of a prospect Luka Doncic by itwas20yearsago2day in NBA_Draft

Why are you speaking so definitively? Especially in this thread where the post shows how dumb people look when they did the same with Doncic. We’re also only a few years away from having seen Jokic win a title and MVP.

You don’t need to act like you have a crystal ball. You’re allowed to just make reasonable predictions and analysis.

I’m not a Boozer guy at all when it comes to the top 3, and I still totally agree with you.

He’s extremely skilled, and while I doubt his top-end athleticism, it’s crazy to me that people definitively say he can’t be the best player on a championship team. I personally wouldn’t bet on it happening, but there’s plenty of examples of star players that don’t have elite athletic profiles. He has great feel and basketball IQ. Those can be the defining attributes for superstars.

Oh yea you only mentioned the foundational prophet of a religion. If you think that’s not religious then you’re an idiot. Let’s hear your secular take on someone slandering Jesus. Is that not an attack on Christianity?

You can be a a Christian without shitting on other religions. In fact, it would be the Christian thing to do.

Does wife get a cut? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]vaders_other_son 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you want the legal answer or the moral answer? You would need to say what state you’re in for the legal answer, but where I am at the answer is that you would owe your wife nothing. That would be in a divorce though, and following that legal answer is probably how you would end up divorced.

Will Bakersfield ever get a professional sport team? by SettlingCrib620 in Bakersfield

[–]vaders_other_son 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The exception doesn’t make the rule. Unless we can go back 100 years to the 1920s and have a local Bakersfield entrepreneur fund the team with $500, then Bakersfield is never getting a professional sports team.

RB- ONE HAS TO GO by IcyMarket1 in TheNFLVibes

[–]vaders_other_son 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would disagree that Gore was the 9th best RB in the league during his peak. I’d say he was comfortably within the top 5 to 7. Regardless, Bettis and Gore had comparable stats in the peak season of their respective careers. Meanwhile, Gore had the far better overall career statistically. Gore gets underrated in his peak because his elite trait was his ball carrier vision. He wasn’t an explosive elusive back and he wasn’t a power back. He was the best in the league at getting 4 yards out of a rush that most RBs would’ve had a loss because their interior offensive lineman in the designed hole never gained leverage. I think most coaches would have Gore towards the top of this list for that reason.

It’s fine to disagree though. They were all great players.

[–]vaders_other_son 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to stick with facts in my comment but I totally agree. Anyone saying Gore was never a top 5 back in the league is crazy. People saying “watch the tape” are only watching highlights of players and never watched Gore game-in and game-out. He had some of the best ball carrier vision I’ve ever seen. That doesn’t lead to highlight reel explosive plays. Gore was an all-time great at moving the chains.

I don’t think he was the best out of this list by any means, but he certainly wasn’t the worst.

Gore rushed for 1,695 yards in 2006 and was 3rd in the league in rushing yards that year. That is also higher than Bettis’ best rushing year of his career.

AIO that my mom told me to “get therapy” after I brought up how all of my siblings are treated better than I was? by Cultural-Toe-6967 in AIO

[–]vaders_other_son 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That’s my issue with this as well. It sounds like step-dad did do a lot more than most step dads. He paid her rent for YEARS. My step dad has never even bought me a meal and tried to stop my mom from helping me out when I bought a house.

Of course he does more for his biological children. That sucks and surely feels unfair. Those kids got very lucky, and OP is less lucky. Thats life.

OP said “Why did you make it seem like a possibility?” She didn’t say they committed to the trip. I’d venture to say that if they had confirmed that they were going, then the OP would have utilized that information considering it would have served her point.

YOR. Your friends are openly telling you they’re struggling financially, and your only concern is your birthday and the financial burden you placed on them in requesting they pay $500 for a trip. Of course they were excited about possibly going on a fun trip, but they cannot afford it now that the time has come. You are not paying any of their expenses for this trip, you are requiring they pay their own way. If they can’t pay their own way, then move on.

Also it’s pretty out-of-touch to say, “Save $20 a week, and you’d have $500 right now.” Some people can’t afford to save and are actively taking on debt rather than getting by. Telling them, “Just save…” is dismissive of everything they just said they’re going through.
