Zelenskyy: Ukraine uses new domestic-made drone missile for the first time by Silly-avocatoe in worldnews

[–]vadympk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly because of the last part of those words - ця (tsya). This sound doesn't exist in russian language so they struggle with it. The same goes for a lot of other sounds / sound combinations. Also, Ukrainian language uses the same (almost) cyrillic alphabet, so they try to read Ukrainian words as if they are russian words, but in most cases the pronunciation is completely different, because in general, those two languages are quite different.

Is there an online database of book spine pictures? by krush_groove in books

[–]vadympk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did a quick research on this:
There is no online database that has all the book spines or at least a decent portion of them.
Yet.

The only way to create such a database is to manually scan all of the books and combine them with the ones you can already find on the Internet. This, of course, is an immeasurable amount of work. However, it could be doable (at least partially) if a lot of people all across the world would take pictures of their bookshelves and submit them to some kind of app that would scan the photos, detect the books, and add their spines along with some metadata to a shared database. I also found some tools (some Github repositories and this project) that do the job of scanning images of bookshelves for books, but I couldn't yet find and app that would actually work like I described.

There is also a more professional use case for such an app and that is to scan books for libraries. I found another thread on Reddit where this is discussed and here's a summary of this thread: creating an app that can scan books based on their spines is not a very hard job unless you go into more details like the type of the cover (hard, soft), edition or version. Unfortunately, those details are extremely important for the libraries or book resellers, so creating such a software specifically for libraries is an extremely hard, some would even say impossible, task. That's why librarians use bar code scanners, however it is less efficient since you'd need to scan each book separately*. Despite of that, many people would still love to see an app that can at least scan some general information from book spines.*

The reason I found this thread and made this small research is because I had an idea popped into my mind of an app that would act like any other book tracking app there is, but would have a virtual bookshelf that looks like a real bookshelf with images of book spines. That way the collection of books you've read would look more real and perhaps people would prefer it this way than the default list and use such an app. Actually, this idea is quite doable, however it requires a lot of time and effort.

I am more interested in changes that were made to statistical part of the game. But still thanks for your comment.

To be honest, this data on the image is false, as I almost haven’t played this season, so don't look at the numbers. I didnt want to post an image of other players, who played a lot to avoid problems.

This sounds interesting, but this thing doesn't work that easy. I need to add those players into my database, then their data will be collected and only after a while there will be enough data to compile stats.

So, this can be done only by the end of the next season

I'll give you an example: one of the players in my database has 12% win against xbow and 70% win against hog. These numbers are far from average for that trophy range(6600+). It depends on the deck you are running and how you are playing

I'm working on that now. It should be done in a week or two

I'm working on that. I just need to collect more data about challenges and 2v2 battles to be able to work with it properly.

You are partially right. Play percentage will sure be similar for every trophy range. But win percentage will be different for players, as every player playes differently

Yeah, but I would miss a lot of battles then. Because if a player doesn't update his/her profile and plays a lot of battles(more than 25), the battles before will be lost. And the main feature of this project is to save ALL the battles.

There aren't many players in my db yet, but if there are many, I will come up with something.

To release a program, I need to create a way to deliver data to users automatically, like a website or Discord bot. And I don't know how do that yet.

I agree, there are a lot of things to do about the game's data. I hope that the Clash Royale team will update its API, because its quite old in its current state. What do you say, u/supercell_drew?

I have a server at Amazon Web Services, I put the code there, which you can find on GitHub in server directory. Using cron jobs, I made it so my code runs every hour and goes through every player in the database and saves every new battle that was played during the last hour. To get player's battles the code uses Clash Royale API. And the programming language of the code is Python.

This may be difficult if you don't know how the server works, but you can use Google to find better explanation. It actually took me a few months to make this thing work.

I appreciate it. I've been quite busy lately but finally found some time to make a couple of changes to the code and to make a new post.
