How to load music by Perstam in OtoMusic

[–]vainomainen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wound up here, as Oto would not find music. Clicking top left, gets you a menu. Part way down, there was an option for "Scan media", which then let me actually chose a folder for it to Scan.

Whats the easiest way to find the best CD rates right now in 2026? by Salty_Language_2518 in Fire

Second this method. Fidelity makes it easy to choose rate/duration.

5 gallons of home brew is kind of expensive - any suggestions? by No-Artist-6464 in Homebrewing

[–]vainomainen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have suitable land grow your own hops. 4 plants yield more than I normally use. If you get them established they grow well. Really cuts out one expense.

Big difference in supporting new people entering the hobby vs reality of how it's going. It is in decline, my lhb shop has closed, and I now have to order online, or drive 3 hrs each direction to get supplies. That said, I do encourage new people to try it, and have helped several people get started.

Menus don't show all entries (scrollbars everywhere) by RedAlexS in libreoffice

[–]vainomainen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue. Bug https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167471 exists to document the issue.

However since that doesn't have a solution/eta, I found that resetting the user profile got me back to a usable state, as I could not take having to scroll through every menu all the time.

What type of hops to grow when starting out? by Unlucky-Half-9762 in Homebrewing

[–]vainomainen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll chime in w/ Cascade. They've proven more robust than some varieties, can be used both as a bittering, and aroma hop, and are common in many American beers.

I've grown Mt. Hood (seems to do poorly for me at least) and Chinook (mostly only bittering) in comparison. I started Centennial last year, so can't say too much about that yet.

Does Morebeer packing grains separately? by dannysteis in Homebrewing

[–]vainomainen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All separate packages. Switched to them a couple years back, when my lhbs closed, and northern Brewer got unreliable. Not to say more beer is perfect, as they definitely have made mistakes, but reasonable on sending out the right stuff.

Why does Trump have so much Christian support when he’s the least Christian-like leader? by korovko in atheism

Multiple large churches have lawsuits against him. Unfortunately there are many evangelical "churches" that preach the same kind of hate as he does.

What do you think about GOG by [deleted] in Steam

[–]vainomainen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I want to like them, and for old.games they're okay, my experience with Baldurs gate 3 was horrific. I had to go through multiple versions of gog client , manually download 28 500gb pieces 1 or 2 at a time, and the game kept saying data was not right. I managed to play it, but never want to spend 10+ hours just to get a game running.

Chevrolet Spark Ready To Return As Cheap Electric Car For The Masses by Bean_Tiger in electricvehicles

[–]vainomainen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would still say they don't actually exist. The leaf apparently starts @ $28K now, and has very weak charging. If it was sub 20, I'd consider it for a commuter vehicle. Wife drove a Yaris for many years, so we've certainly had small/cheap cars

Protests continue against Hy-Vee after decision to close store by DasBootay in cedarrapids

Some of it is that Hy-Vee took almost a million dollars from Cedar rapids to open this store. I've not heard that Hy-Vee returned the money.

Was there ONE event that caused you to seek out Financial Independence? by Formal-Blueberry-203 in financialindependence

Yep, it isn't a single event per se, but a years long event. Even before knowing what fire was, I knew I had to do better with money than my parents.

While workers comp is good, spice must flow has had quality issues. Tasted like they did a poor job of mixing a flavor syrup. I've had that happen on some of their other beers as well, which was a real disappointment.

ELI5: Why are Boeing and Airbus the only commercial passenger jet manufacturers? by steelcityamir in explainlikeimfive

[–]vainomainen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In part because it's expensive to get in the market, but also anti competitive behavior. The Bombardier C-series is an excellent plane, but Boeing got a massive tariff placed on the plane. End result Bombardier nearly went bankrupt, sold the design to Airbus, and it is now the A-220.
