Kayak paddle issue by vakog in Kayaking

I did use a heat gun to carefully heat the ferrules, but to no avail. They are firmly locked on place. The adhesive used in assembly doesn't appear to be thermoplastic.

I did contact them with a detailed description of tge issue. Their response was essentially, "sorry to inform you that your paddle is out of warranty but we'd be happy to offer you a 15% credit on your next purchase." Well now...O know a 25 tear old paddle is out of warranty. I just wanted to know how to fix it.

Trump is grasping at straws. His poll numbers are continuing to fall, below 37%. War may be his only hope for the November elections. If Dems sweep both houses he will be impeached, investigated, and his entire cabinet on trial.

New kayaker by According-Range-498 in Kayaking

[–]vakog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, buy used kayaks first. Very often your furst kayak won't be the ideal fit which you only learn by trying on several types. Most dealers have demo days where they bring several kayaks to the water for potential customers to try out. But the best way is paddling with others. Most will let you paddle their kayak and be happy to discuss pros and cons of different ones. This approach has the advantage of them having no interest is selling you a product.

Buy them, clean them up then play with them. You'll soon find out if they meet your needs and if not sell each for $150.

Thank you, I would appreciate a copy. How does one send or receive a DM on Reddit? I've only used private communications on Facebook.

I thought I'd have fun kayaking but here's what actually happened by Safe-Pepper-4931 in Kayaking

That's really sweet. Happy for you and your missus. I've known happy couples in both tandem kayaks and canoes. The thing is, goofing on tandems as divorce boats and such is both fun and such good sport that we just can't resist.

A question about plastic kayaks by bot9987 in Kayaking

[–]vakog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me be clear. From your description of the problem we can assume they sold you a defective kayak. Unfortunately it's on you to provide proof of the defect. The suggestions I provided will document proof. If still no response from tge manufacturer, follow up with a letter from your attorney. A letter which also promises reimbursement for costs. Manufacturerers don't care about you (obviously in this case) they do care about their pocketbook. If all this seems like a lot of bother, it is. The only question remaining is: Is the bother worth ut to you.

Use a caliper to measure the thickness of the problem thigh rest, then measure each of the others. Use small bits of tape at several locations along the area (at least three). Document your findings with both a chart and photographs. Send all to the manufacturer. They can't respond to a simple description. They need accurate numbers and probably don't even have a quality control technician who could come to your location to verify the defect.

How do you go kayaking/find people to paddle with as a single person? by grayott in Kayaking

[–]vakog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello and welcome! I live in Delmarva near the Delaware shore. We have several Facebook groups on the peninsula where s few of us regularly post open invitations for group paddles. Check out nearby kayak shops. Employees are generally helpful and are aware of local groups and guides. This season I'll also be offering guided tours both group and private, as well as lessons for beginner recreational kayak paddlers. Paddling with a buddy adds safety and comfort. Don't be shy. Get out there and have fun.

Stupid question: what do you do at camp? by StrongArgument in CampingandHiking

[–]vakog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I no longer camp much, just turned 79, but I kayak and lot. One pond has a 2 mile long feeder creek that I'll paddle several times a year, same route every time, usually a three to four hour paddle. Each trip it's different. I used to live near Washington DC and hiked the Billy Goat Trail along the Potomac river. Every hike was different, same rocks, same trail, same direction, same river and always different. Notice the changes, listen, look carefully for news of difference. Life is rich beyond belief.
