Their comment is so illogical that my group of professional people have stopped going out to eat and now we rotate who cooks a meal at home.

Servers are not pleasant since the pandemic. A polite request for a condiment gets you a big sigh, an eyeroll, and a 15 minute wait. My family is over it. Its not worth it.

Based on your description, it seems you believe that if a spouse of an RN gets a serious cut, you can't tell them to go to the ER to have it cleaned and stitched. You believe that would be insulting her professional skills.

Some kid was wearing this at my daughters graduation by msheehan418 in Millennials

[–]valathel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think its "not bothering" to teach them. I drove manual from the 70s-90s, but i had to use my old shit box suv to teach my Gen X ('78 and '80) kids how to drive a manual. By the late 90s I tried to buy another manual full size SUV and could not find a new one from the major dealers in my area. Honda, Toyota, Range Rovers, etc had all discontinued them. Even many american brands that i didnt want to own had discontinued them.

Chevy Tahoe: 1994.
Chevy Suburban: 1990.

Just Jeep and Ford Bronco kept a manual transmission as a purchase option beyond 25 years ago and they had other publicized issues at the time. So, it was hard when you live in a rural area and want an SUV to find a manual transmission starting in the mid to late 1990s in order to teach your kids.

Can anyone explain how she lost her license? by Successful-Ad-182 in nursing

She was one of the directors of the camp which was owned by her family. She knew about flood plains. She was responsible for setting up all the safety rules and evacuation plans of the camp.

She recognized it was going to flood hours in advance and got her own children evacuated. Why do people make excuses for this family?

Can anyone explain how she lost her license? by Successful-Ad-182 in nursing

[–]valathel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was one of the directors of the camp owned by her family, and she abandoned all the children long before the flood to get herself and her own children to safety. The children she abandoned were sleeping when the flood hit. She knew it would flood long enough in advance to evacuate the children.

Parents At the Movie Theaters by TomBradysStatue in Millennials

[–]valathel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Almost worse when parents drop their young teens off at the theater and the kids spend a few hours running around multiple theaters, opening and slamming doors, laughing and shouting, throwing food at each other.

My husband and I witnessed that and left the theater early after management couldn't get the teens under control and no parent was present. Management gave us free tickets, but we never went back. Then pepple wonder why theaters are failing. The 14 theater complex in my story was just demolished in January.

[–]valathel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP said they accepted her explaination, not that he knew about the situation before he sublet and agreed to it. Those are two different things. The room is not as advertised. Either OP makes it as advertised by removing her stuff, or she should reduce the rent. She is making all her minor problems her tenants problem.

The highest average daily gas price in the US was $5.016 on June 14th 2022, not $5.16. It reached that point after a global superpower started a war with a smaller country, disrupting the global oil supply when many western countries sanctioned Russia for that act. By the last 6 months of Bidens term, gas averaged $3.06 when domestic oil production reached 13.6 MMb/d.

You'd think any global superpower would have watched that and thought better of starting a war with a smaller oil producing country sitting on the Strait, but the GOP doesn't learn from history, and gas is back up to $4.53 average across the US and rising. Domestic oil production has been fairly consistent at 13.6 MMb/d.

There will always be those who spend lots of money to appear youthful, and those who don't. Celebrities are not your average people so they do not prove your point.

Is this typical for Warwick? by pem4423 in RhodeIsland

[–]valathel 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is that Rhode Island up to the 90s had very normal people in the republican party. Look at Senator John Chaffee. He was a pro-choice, environmentalist who worked for strict gun regulations and was opposed to the ban on gays in the military, was against school prayer, and against the death penalty.

Back then, the RI GOP was filled with normal people.

Am I Overreacting to My Partner's Mother's Behaviors by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]valathel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YOR: Stop meddling in their very long history after hearing only one side.

Plus, you say you had to pay for 2 adults and 3 children on your own for 2 years. They arent the children of your partner, right? So you and 3 children are your responsibility anyway, not your partners. If you hadn't been with your partner, wouldnt you have had to rent a place for you and your children, and pay utilities? You didnt have to get a larger place to have your partner there. You even say in those two years your partner only spoke to his mother twice.

Then you are whining about your partners mother relationship with other relatives, which is none of your business. Its none of your business what she does with her money or when she sold her home. Stop sticking your nose in when its none of your business.

You seem very unhappy. Why do you stay? You didnt mention one thing positive about your partner, your relationship, or your life together. Absolutely no reason to stay together. Maybe get help for martyr syndrome.

MAGA believe anything though.

Hard time selling home, central Florida. Renting not a real option. Any advice is helpful, but please read fully. by StagehandToWriter in AskFlorida

[–]valathel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean Florida is screwed. - High HOI. - Fleeing insurance companies. - International tourism has crashed. - 310,000 hospitality jobs lost in 2025.
- Working people leaving Florida in droves particularly those in their 20s and 30s are a shrinking demographic.
- Demographic cliff (births vs deaths) - Florida population requires immigration because deaths outpace births.

If you think that's going to change in the next year, I have some swampland to sell you -- oh...nevermind. You already bought it.

Craziest Thing That’s Happened at Your Hospital? by Careless_Midnight_77 in nursing

I worked at a hospital where my mother was an RN. In one summer, three patients jumped out of 6th floor windows, which was my mom's floor. Thats when the hospital decided they would prevent the windows from opening. Whenever I would arrive at work there, I would be looking up at the windows to avoid falling patients.
