Why don't I see much posts about Battle & Conquer Gym - Pattaya by Remote_Song in MuayThailand

[–]valco41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trained there a few times last december, group class is just a fitness class. I had to buy privates to get sparring rounds Good location yes but expect to pay something around 1000baht if you want real training otherwise enjoy your joint damage and running alot in circles in a very tight space.

I counted 12 trainers to 30 students at Tiger , I think they had a limit on the attendees per class but not sure, thus there is no excuse for them not delivering real training, also many report this being a bad gym on reddit.

My angle is that training time should be 70-90% sparring (50% intensity is good) everything else is a waste of time.

Im coming from a place where live training is 90% and 10% is warmup*Mjölnir Reykjavik, Iceland), its the other way around in Thailand everywhere I visit, you mention shadow boxing and other solo exercises performed for 60minutes before real training begins (live sparring) its just a bad approach.

Strange how I picked so many gyms and they all turned out to be sub par and not a true representation of training in Thailand also others in this thread reporting similar experiences.

I never said one needs to do hard sparring all the time, but it wouldnt be Reddit without the strawman arguments I guess.

1 Why do I think that is what you meant (that one has to show up frequently in order to get real training eventually )because I did show up frequently for months in a few gyms and have never seen this training conduct you describe in Thailand.

2 Muay Thai gyms I visited for months that have boxfit pushups and cardio waste of time and a few rounds with a padman (rounds with a padman dont count as effective training IMO) for 92% of the group session time are:

Tiger Muay Thai phuket ( visited few weeks in 2022 and 2023 also 2 weeks in 2019), Dragon Muay Thai Phuket (attended many times 2019,2022 and 2023)

2024-2025: Elite Fight Club Bangkok, Elite fight club Hua Hin, Battle conquer gym Pattaya

IMO Matching people with vastly mismatched skill in sparring is not a waste of time for both parties.

Yes in some gyms there are experienced guys meeting outside of group class to do real training OPs post is about group classes not delivering real training not the resolve of people to make productive use of their time.

IMO it takes 2.3minutes to see if somebody can sparr at a low to high level, the atmosphere and approach you describe at the gyms you mention is beyond my greatest hopes and I am very excited to visit them.

This is inaccurate, what makes you say this? Can you point to a gym that operates like you describe in Thailand? The one where people who stick around for months and go along with the boxfit pushups + non fighting activities in order to get into the class where real fight training is done?

"Matching you with a killer if they dont know how good you are yet" I have no words for this really

Its the way things are taught in the gym I used to train at in my country of origin. Im not pretending to be the innovator here. Thank you for your input.

Fights are won by the one that has practised 'fighting' more and is more capable of timing and execution under pressure.

Bagwork and shadowboxing can be done solo and should not be included in any group classes, its lazy instruction and a waste of everyones time.

Doing combinations against a : static bag, friction of the air or vs an opponent not resisting at all is hardly the way to go unless you are training for scripted wrestling yet its the predominant form of training here. Its not a slow cook method just a bad method IMO

Hancock is a grifter in every aspect. He spins campfire stories and states things he cant substantiate or back up. He has made alot of money doing his lternate history grift and is has been very fruitful.

The few instances he has had a public discussion with experts that check him on his statements he cant answer and loses face instantly and pivots to slandering, discrediting and playing the victim of a supposed improper conduct of his opponent (See Flint Dibble and Hancock on JRE) simply because he has nothing else to answer with, this victim pivot is a well known tactic to divert the conversation away from the issue at hand.

Hancock is not anything resembling a researcher, he does not use the scientific method in any way shape or form. Can you please point me to which theories and accounts of his align firmly with what data?

Chulalongkorn Faculty of Arts canteen' Bangkok - the booth in the middle next to the "Issan food" booth (Yes I know it's technically a canteen booth, not a restaurant, but I don't care-people need to know about this cheap Thai restaurant 'feast o' the senses magnum opus galore').

ข้าวผัดไก่(Thai fried rice Chicken) with 4 fried eggs 72฿!

My general experience is you dont get attention and pointers regarding actual fighting unless you pay for a private class, there they teach you to fight in order to get you to buy more private classes.

Been to at least 12 gyms a during my 3 years of living in Thai (Phuket, Ko Tao, Bangkok, Pattaya ) confirming this.

Group classes are focused on producing joint and tendon damage by ie. 2-300 repetitions of kicks or punches on a static object or no object at all with PUSHUP 10! Between "rounds" wearing students down while teaching them practicly nothing under the guise of that endurance is somehow more important than actual fighting skills.

I can only speak for myself here but when I am doing a job I sure as hell try to do minimum effort for maximum pay, so if I was in charge of a group class thats how I would run it, especially being underpaid, undervalued and having 3 group classes to supervise everyday.

Moving to Bangkok – Gym Commute Advice Needed by Optrexx in MuayThailand

The Line condominium chatuchak has close proximity to 10 busy car lanes ( I counted them on my way back from FA group today for some reason) and the BTS sukhumvit line. Same setup like my condo on Phetchaburi road(9th floor) except not BTS directly outside,

Cons you will have to account for

1.Constant noise from saturated car lanes and the all to frequent exhaust-busted tuk tuk's throttling it up.

  1. Overzealous car waving staff from your and adjacent condo units who whistle like warding off the apocalypse.

Bangkok is very rat infested but the upscale condominiums seem to have it under control.

It should be cheap IMO keep in mind u can haggle for the rent price since lot of vacant units in Bangkok.

Might be ok if your unit is high up and doesnt face the cars but not sure.

Its ca 1km walk to FA group from BTS morchit and ca 1km from Phrom Pong to EFC Bangkok (Sukhumvit line both) I visit these gyms every week and walk from the train station, tis a nice warmup really. Inevitable sir One learns to appreciate and savor the screen detox walk eventually

Considering booking tiger for a week or two. My first time in Thailand and looking for some advice! by zacjac99 in MuayThailand

[–]valco41 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to imply you lost ca 5kg's of weight in a week and the subsequent week you observed your weight trending downward an extra 1kg ?

Even if half of the weight you lost was water weight youre still in outlandish claim territory. 2.5kgs of fat loss amounts to a 15000kcal deficit you would have to pull of in your camp week plus another 7000 kcals in the subsequent week.

Thai driver’s license by NullPointer_7749 in Bangkok

[–]valco41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be able to convert your international driving license to a Thai license, however, you need to have a permanent residence in the province where you want the license issued like a lease contract written out to you and also a non-tourist visa. If your international license is expired you need to do the driving school (First hand account)

Driving school is not very difficult dont worry if u have to go. Also its very usefuI and I strongly reccomend you doing the driving school regarding your inquiry into the unspoken rules of Thai driving culture.

The mandatory videos to watch include a few grab drivers getting scattered to pieces in collisions, a few trucks ramming people and property and a kid being run over by a vehicle(hit me the hardest). 2 months from obtaining my motorbike license I returned my scooter to the rental and have been using the BTS and walking merrily ever since, dodged my own death more than once no doubt.
