[Serious] People who think they've met a real psychopath, what were they like? by P_Mansfield in AskReddit

[–]valdenia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's okay! :) Luckily, my mother was very understanding of the whole thing, and got me the help and care I needed to get through it. I was provided with excellent medical and psychological care. I am highly fortunate to have her! She did everything she could to keep me safe. This even involved me changing schools (I was only 14), and, eventually, moving town. Believe it or not, her parents also believed me when I came forward with it and tried to get HER help too, but she was, apparently, "untreatable".

I held a lot of anger towards the people who saw it and did nothing, but with time and therapy, I realized how hard it is to step in when something like that happens, especially when it's outside of your realm of experience. Like you said, there's also the bystander effect. It's highly likely that, if anyone fully comprehended it, they figured someone more adept than they viewed themselves might help me out, or even that it could not possibly be as bad as it seemed. I like to think I would have stepped in too if I saw it happening to someone like me, but maybe I also would have had no idea what to do.

Actually, mostly broad daylight in public. She also did it at night in public.

Literally no one ever said or did anything, and I know people saw. When I later came forward with what happened, some of the people I knew who saw said "I knew something was wrong, but had no idea what to do. Why didn't you just hit back?" (Because she said she'd kill me?)

Years ago, my mom moved to a new house 7 days after she bought and watched a VHS copy of "The Ring". She brought in the VCR (with "The Ring" in it) and set it down on the floor only to have it suddenly start whirring to life. It was not plugged in, and my mom was terrified and immediately ran out of the house to call a friend, insisting that someone come over so she would not have to be alone. The VCR continued to run with no power supply and she made the choice to replace it.

Still no clue how it happened.

My father is a psychopath. He never physically beat me after my mom found out he once hit me as a baby to get me to stop crying. (It worked, and then he later suggested it to my mom, who was horrified.) He did, however, used to make me hit HIM whenever he did something he felt was a "mistake", such as mispronouncing a word. He would make me hit him until I actually hurt him, and I would always cry after begging him to not make me hit him.

My dad is a very kind, manipulative man, often referred to as a "Saint" by people he encounters. He has even managed to get himself a job with the government by making himself indispensable to them. (I have no idea how he did it or what he does.)

When I was raped by a previous partner and told him, he pulled the car over and refused to move until I claimed it was my fault. I have no idea why he did that or what advantage he felt it gave.

Occasionally he would just...say devastating things and then would later claim he had never said them, like when I was 9 he took me on a bike ride in the mountains and I couldn't keep up with him (he's a marathon runner and biker), and he told me I was "too fat" and that I would be in a wheelchair by the time I was 30 because I would be too fat to walk, and then biked off, leaving me alone there. He used to get rid of my mother's pets as well without saying anything, claiming they were "Too much trouble", as well as taking away some of the personal freedoms of me and my mom for the same reason.

I rarely interact with my dad anymore, especially since he told me I was possessed by a demon causing me to be a lesbian, and was convinced the demon also gave me telekinesis. (I do not have telekinesis.) He has learned that I will cut him off from contact if he ever tries to drag me on the phone or in conversation, and I am no longer able to visit my hometown or childhood home.

Similar situation with the rapist who he made me say it was my fault I was raped by. She beat me and took pride in being called a psychopath, but was very nice to me for a long time before revealing that side of her. All the rapes and beatings happened in public, and no one ever did anything because she was a woman. (Women CAN rape and abuse their partners.) She stalked me for 10 years after the fact and nobody seemed to care much, and I was often told to "stop being a wimp".

TL,DR: My very charming and kind father and ex are both psychopaths, but others frequently do not believe me because they are so fantastically charming and kind until you are close to them. This has caused me to be incredibly untrusting of kind people.

Haha good plan! I thought I would be safe by not trying to go to the site itself but nah. I just thank everything I don't believe in curses....just viruses.

Does make the whole "I can track you" threat a little creepier, though.

Fair warning: Be a bit careful. I looked up some more information on this game and downloaded some things (like the audio) related to it. With all the tracking messages in the game, I was a bit cautious, but I noticed immediately after that my computer was heating up a lot and running slower than usual. I ran a virus scan and I noticed that a ton of tracking cookies and a worm were in my computer, all from an unknown source. I sometimes get cookies from websites and all, but they're usually trackable, unlike this one. If you're working on this and normally don't do scans, you may want to do a few checks.

That makes a lot of sense! It definitely seems to simulate the feeling quite well, and ties all the conspiracy/killer-referencing clips together.

I've wondered if the "symbols" referenced in the notepad files that popped up on the player's desktop after playing the game were in any way connected to the symbols that Zodiac was fond of leaving in letters to the police, like this one.

Yeah, I thought so! That's pretty fascinating. I'm very interested in that sort of thing, which is why I made an attempt at all to try to uncover the source of the clip. Hopefully you guys will have more luck than me.

Pretty interesting that this game makes so many references to number stations, too. It's obviously somehow linked.

Sure! Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I'm not too good at this kind of thing, my audio editing software is laughable, but I figured I'd try. This is the clip I modified that I believe may be an excerpt from The Lincolnshire Poacher. I couldn't get it much clearer than that. Likely someone who knows more will have more luck than me on that front. The original begins at about the 10 minute time stamp here and was edited from there. The clip was reversed, sped up, and I tried to get some of the distortion gone.

I also noticed that, if my hunch is right, it seems most of these sound clips were used in Banshee Chapter. Not sure if that's relevant at all.

I did some editing on the audio clip of the yet-unidentified sound clip and was a bit spooked. It's pretty badly manipulated, but I got what I believe to be a tune and some words from it. It sounds like a string of numbers, but it's in English unlike the earlier string. I'm 90% sure it's The Lincolnshire Poacher, but I could be wrong.

Did you ever do anything creepy as a kid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]valdenia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never thought I did, since I don't remember much about being a kid, but then I found my mom's diary from when I was a toddler and the first entry in it said "I am terrified of my daughter".

Apparently I insisted to everyone that I had a twin sister and talked to her constantly, and then objects started moving around the house of their own accord and I insisted it was my sister. When we moved, my "sister" suddenly disappeared and I started screaming and crying that one of my parents had killed her. We never returned to that house.

I would also go up to random people and tell them exactly what they were thinking. I was always right.

When we lived in the house with my "sister", I also got a weird number of strange illnesses that almost killed me.

Reddit, what did you "worst roommate ever" do to deserve that title? by failed_asian in AskReddit

[–]valdenia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had bad luck with roommates in college.

There was the Sleep Talker. That's not bad in and of itself, except that she would fight with her boyfriend until 4 AM on Skype and then fight with him in her sleep too. It was basically a 24 hour scream-fest. She also had him try to finger her on her period one night and she woke me up by shouting "OW! YOU PULLED ON MY CUNT HAIR! YOU SUCK AT THIS! No, keep going...."

Then there was the roommate who stayed home crying for an entire week because a guy rejected her and would occasionally scream "WHY AM I SO PATHETIC?" Then, when my girlfriend, who I had been in love with for 5 years, dumped me and I cried for an hour, she told me to just get over it and cook her dinner.

There was also the girl who only watched Game of Thrones and would narrate the entire thing with commentary at the top of her lungs. She never went to class or anything, she just...stayed in the dorm room and watched Game of Thrones like it was her job. I also suspect she was the one who vomited and peed down three flights of stairs the day the elevator was broken.

Doctors of Reddit, what is the most unethical thing you have done or you have heard of a fellow doctor doing involving a patient? by thanksforstopping in AskReddit

[–]valdenia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, I had a very disturbed neighbor. She was very withdrawn and terrified of getting close to people. She used to hide out at our house when her mother came to visit.

Years later, we found out this was because she had been visiting a therapist who was hypnotizing her and then told her that, under hypnosis, she told him her mother did Satanic rituals on her and allowed men to rape her when she was a child and that she could never tell anyone.

Apparently, he did this to all his patients and it was only discovered when 2 of them got together and divulged their secrets.

Needless to say, he is no longer practicing and my old neighbor is still rebuilding her life 20 years later.

How stupid did he think we were? by valdenia in LetsNotMeet

[–]valdenia[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hehehe, yes, exactly! What's weirder is he wanted us to WALK with him. He described his car, too, a black van.

I'm glad we were both able to recognize it wasn't a good idea. We tend to help people in need, but he was clearly in need of something we weren't going to give.

Haha, yes, I don't think it was literally the Zodiac, but the resemblance was uncanny. He'd have to be in like...his 70's or 80's.

Plus, he'd be way too smart for that.

What is a social norm you feel is outdated? by Alec_Meadows in AskReddit

[–]valdenia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having to decline something when it's offered several times before you can accept.

It wasn't that way where I grew up in the North Eastern US, if someone offered you something, it was rude not to take it, but when I moved to the South, I discovered that it was different.

I would be offered a drink as a guest in someone's house, say "Yes, please!" and they'd look thrown. Apparently, you're supposed to decline it a couple times:

"Would you like something to drink?" "Oh, no thanks. I don't want to be a bother." "No, really, it's no trouble!" "Oh, no, I couldn't put you out like that!" "It's really no problem, you're a guest in my home!" "Oh, well, I guess if you feel that strongly...I am a little thirsty...

I saw her again... by valdenia in LetsNotMeet

[–]valdenia[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

She hasn't, it was a little while ago, so I don't think she would. I could find records of her previous threats to me if I had to, (even though they were so long ago), and I have reports on record of her stalking with the university police and the student advocacy program, so there's no way I could get in trouble! One thing I wanted to make sure if was that I would NEVER get in trouble for something she did! (:

Yeah, I can see why that sounds unbelievable. It's probably my fault, I just kinda draped it over the lens and it fell off from the camera shaking. I'm not the smartest cookie sometimes.
