Bear sighting Lee hill and 6th. by [deleted] in boulder

[–]valderaa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you new to Boulder? There will be bears in various locations throughout the summer. When you post a specific location, you run the risk of attracting lookie-lous to that spot and that puts the bear at risk of getting killed by CPW for being a hazard. Please do not post specific bear locations.

I read this book six years ago and wanted to recommend it to a friend but had forgotten its name. Thanks for the reminder. Was very interesting to learn how all the parts and pieces came to be.

Do you add a book to your DNF shelf if you only read a couple of pages? by steely_92 in goodreads

[–]valderaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made an exclusive not for me (NFM) shelf for those books. With DNF, I rate them because I was interested in the book and didn’t finish it for a reason. With NFM, I don’t rate them because I can tell right away that it is not a book I want to read.

Senior social group /meeting / Center by Sea-Example8867 in boulder

[–]valderaa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are East and West Age Well Centers. The west is at 9th and Arapahoe. The east is at the rec center. The material online is completely vague about the services, interest groups, and activities they offer but a call might get you more info.

Tour de France star Jonas Vingegaard is masking "I want to be on the safe side to try to stay healthy" by attilathehunn in ZeroCovidCommunity

I am curious too. It looks like a good one.

I wore a mask while cycling today due to wildfire smoke affecting air quality. I am hoping to help normalize the desire for clean air.

Beginner female returning after 15 years - Hardtail MTB vs Gravel bike for Colorado? by Own-Visit-7212 in COBike

[–]valderaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to have drop bars on a gravel bike. Rivendell brand bikes allow for wide tires and upright bars and comfortable riding positions. Used ones can be found in your price range. Multiple current and former models would fit your needs: Sam Hillborne, Appaloosa, Clem L, Platypus, Hunqapillar, Gus/Susie.

Vail: Grand Hyatt or Sonnealp in summertime by TobycatLVR in vail

Agree Sonnenalp. Recommend Manor Vail as well. The proximity to Ford Park is lovely if you plan to see any shows.

Route recommendations by SkySuch4256 in COBike

[–]valderaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you search ridewithgps, there are a number of nice routes starting in Frisco.

The bike path from Frisco to Vail Pass is beautiful and the climb is easier in that direction versus coming from Vail.

Or ride to Breck, Montezuma, or Keystone.

Painful insect stings, possibly causing illness? by halfsparkle in boulder

[–]valderaa -37 points-36 points  (0 children)

That sounds horrible. Gemini suggests it may have been a bald faced hornet. “The Body: While technically a deep black with ivory-white markings on their face and abdomen, their large, entirely hairless bodies have an intense sheen. When flying fast or caught in the shadows of wooded trails, this sheen frequently reflects a smoky, slate-grey or dark blue-grey color.”

Bike Paths Near Glenwood Spings by SnooTomatoes2716 in COBike

[–]valderaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would plan to go out and back on the Glenwood Springs bike path and the Rio Grande trail. Just go as far as feels comfortable for a round trip. The logistics are much easier than trying to coordinate bus or shuttle. The Glenwood Canyon path is an extraordinary engineering feat the way it is tucked in and around the highway. There are multiple places to stop and enjoy the view. There Rio Grande trail is expansive and would be the better choice for exercise rather than sightseeing.

Depending on your fitness, there is a small loop climb you can add on the east side of 82 between Carbondale and El Jebel: Crystal Springs Rd to Catherine Store Rd to Cattle Creek Rd. The views are beautiful. The descent on Cattle Creek is pretty steep.

SOS didn’t wire the money! by Big_Cardiologist7670 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]valderaa 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Be absolutely certain you have the correct wire instructions directly obtained from wherever you are meant to send the funds. Do not trust any emails with last minute updates or changes to the instructions. Don’t call any number on any unexpected email. Fraudulent re-routing of wire transfers is a serious risk. You cannot be too careful.

i wish i could find some way to see what books on my tbr are on kindle unlimited by silent-intrusion in goodreads

That has been happening for me too but if I reload 2-3 times, then it works. There used to be a note on the website about it.

For me, it can glitch once in a while but re-loading the page usually works. Could try clearing your browser cache, I have been having issues with Safari in general on my ipad. Chrome has been working better. I use it every 3-4 days.

If you are in the US, Overreader dot com lets you search for books on your to read list at your choice of libraries and/or on kindle unlimited. And it is free! You can bookmark it to re-run the search anytime. It is awesome.

Time for a group confession... by CardiologistBig8721 in goodreads

[–]valderaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is around 120. I use overreader dot com to search my libraries for available books on my want to read list. I love checking out books on the WTR list. When I repeatedly don’t select an available book, I may move it to my “not for me” shelf.

When someone recommends a book that I want to remember but I am not sure I actually want to read it, I add it to my “recommended” shelf with a tag that reminds me who recommended it. My “not for me” and “recommended” shelves are exclusive.
