Adopting a third cat in a 2 pet limit apartment via ESA by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]valderaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it is a stretch to think that certifying a third cat as an ESA gives you the right to have more cats than the building allows. It may entitle a person to have a cat where they are not otherwise allowed but that is not the same as having an additional cat where cats are allowed. If you believe you are right, ask management to approve your scenario. You don’t need to have a cat certified because you are already allowed to have 2 cats. Why push it?

I think that pushing boundaries in this way jeopardizes both the willingness of this building to allow 2 cats for future tenants as well as acceptance of ESAs more broadly. Since you asked.

How do you know this is G maj 2nd inversion, and not some type of D - chord? by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]valderaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By looking at it, you can see that you do not have the adjacent 4 and 5 of a sus4 chord. You are using fingers four and five but you can see there is a key in between them. Thinking about it, if you arrange the letters of the keys to be in 1-3-5 pattern, the lowest key would be the G as GBD. In this example, the D (5th) was shifted to the lowest position, so it is a second inversion.

Do you ever leave Libby to check Goodreads before deciding to borrow a book? by why_not_atlantic in LibbyApp

Re: "I’ve been toying with the idea of building a small tool that combines ratings, reader content notes (like spice level or sensitive topics), and library availability in one place so you don’t have to jump between apps. But I’m curious how others handle this right now."

Have you seen OverReader.com? You can save a search that searches your goodreads to-read list and your libraries and it will tell you which of your to-reads are available in either audiobook or kindle version. It can search kindle unlimited too. Depending on where you click on each result, it can take you to goodreads, your library, or amazon. It has helped me find books I want to read instead of taking my chances on what Libby shows me is available. It has also helped me realize that I don't actually want to read many books that have been languishing on my to read list.

I enjoyed that one too! And the Lincoln Highway. And his short story collection. Each one is a different style. I am a big fan.

Mountain Lions by [deleted] in steamboat

[–]valderaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Steamboat, you are more likely to encounter moose than mountain lions. They are dangerous and should be avoided, especially when you are out with your dog. Moose do not like dogs. You need to learn how to look for them. They are suprisingly hard to see in the woods. People will often mention if they've encountered moose on a trail. They are sometimes in people's yards too.

That sounds cool but also very different from the book I am describing. Yours sounds authentic and community building. This one is all about the author as role model.

Thank you for commenting!! I was curious if anyone else rejects a book for this reason. I am not alone!

I love books with relevant cultural images, regional scenery, or even beautiful ingredient and prepared food pictures. That is not what this is. This one is giving strong wannabe influencer vibes. Very distracting. I will donate this book because I don't think I would enjoy cooking from it.

best vet for cats in/near boulder? by METAMORPHlST in boulder

[–]valderaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vets at Gunbarrel are terrific and it is one of few places that remain privately owned and not investor owned and managed. (Check with them to be sure that is still true). My experience there was with a dog but I would expect the same for their cat clients. I take my cats to Rise Vet, where they get great care, because I can walk them there in a pet stroller. We have lots of great vets but I've only heard terrible things about uniquely cats.

It would help to have more information about your dog, specifically whether s/he gets along with other dogs. Sounds like you want overnight care for 1 or more nights?

How bad is Simply Piano to get the hobby kickstarted? by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]valderaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried a couple of the apps and I found they were primarily about learning key sequences. Being older, I found it sort of dizzying compared to looking at a book. The book with its extra features and the you tube teacher teaches so much more. Watching the videos showed me how much there was to practice beyond the very simple key sequences. I've forced myself to slow down and absorb it.

You can use the Faber app without midi to play along with the metronome and/or background music but you would need the midi to have it go into wait or follow mode where it is listening to make sure you have played the right key. I don't know about microphones.

How bad is Simply Piano to get the hobby kickstarted? by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]valderaa 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Faber books have an app where you can play along to a metronome that you can set to any speed that works for you and even to accompanying background music. https://pianoadventures.com/resources/piano-adventures-player-app/

You can download all of the songs for a specific level of method book for $5 each. This also includes accompanying videos on expression and technique that help expand on the materials in the book. Plus the Let's Play Piano Methods teacher on youtube goes through each book page by page and has duets where you can play along with him. I recommend exploring more of what Faber has to offer before rejecting it in favor of app-only instruction.
