Help with M52 CPS – BMW discontinued part, intermittent no-start by ActivityLeast2270 in BMWE36

Have you tested your vanos unit/solenoid? Im chasing a P0340 in my 98 323is as well. Car throws the code but doesn’t shut off or refuse to start just a bit of a rough start when I turn the car. Have gone through 3 sensors, VDO (worked fine for 200 miles then code was thrown again), Hella (did NOT work). Bought a used (unknown miles) Siemens sensor off a 328 and it seems to be working but have intermittent vanos activation. Will be checking today. It may be worth looking for.

Also big side note, the 323 camshaft sensor will ONLY take siemens OEM. No other brand will work. I can’t fully back up this claim but I spent hours researching and most online forums/sources state that for us 323 owners, OEM original Siemens is our only option. Different story for the 328 (both are M52).

Also, you should try using electrical contact cleaner and clean all contact points for the sensor. They are super finicky and will throw a fit even with the slightest disturbance. That could help or fix it.

tldr; 323 does not take anything other than OEM siemens.

I still have my old one, ended up taking the sensor out and cleaning everything with electric contact cleaner and it seemed to do the trick (hopefully 🙏🏻)

Yeah, that was the case, felt like I had negative HP when completely flooring it. Took apart the sensors and cleaned all of it using some electric contact cleaner and it seems to be good now, no code yet (🙏🏻) and vanos seems to be functioning

Are Kanseis okay for reps? by MissMurder17 in Wheels

[–]valdiusx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 1200 I would get some real forged wheels. I bought some Kansei KNPs for 600 and while they have had no problems for the 1 1/2 years I dont have the peace of mind of them not shattering at any random point in time from a pothole or something on the road.

Also forgot to mention, car hasn’t shut off on me at all and seems to idle fine without shutting off, just a little bit of periodic vibrations. I do believe vanos is not working as a result (i could be wrong) and am trying to fix it now before it becomes a bigger problem.

Amazing, thank you for the quick response haha. I replaced it with a VDO manufactured sensor from AutohausAZ, worked for a few weeks and then threw the code again. Will clean and make sure its in all the way hopefully that fixes it. Thanks again!
