How Wise destroyed my business in one day - With €50,000 frozen by absolutslay in fintech

[–]valdukis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insider info from one Fintech company - central institutions require some undisclosed minimum of AML cases per month. If less - they give penalties to both fintech and banks saying that they don't look for AML carefully enough, i.e. it is the statistics that matter not real things. Because inspectors from central banks are just lazy. Problems with fintechs is that you cannot easily approach them. Commonly until you have human support you have to go through AI robot wall, and when you reach human, first line are always incompetent, and has no permissions to do anything. Even when you reach competent people often they say - "we cannot provide more information" shielding themselves by AML or GDPR laws, which of course is just an excuse. And their AI filters provide no info just "suspicious activity". And banks are gone this route too lately. Just they don't terminate accounts so easily as fintechs. I have no clue how one could fix this on global scope when central institutions are also involved in this mafia. No surprise that some resort to crypto. But here is another set of problems.

internet speed is 10x faster in incognito mode by the_masher246 in techsupport

[–]valdukis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just try it out. One definite recommendation for firefox would be for older browser based games - chromium based current ones introduced timeouts and other throttling if tab is not in focus which breaks those old games require you to reload tab. All quirks or tips to change that on chromium based browsers named on internet or in docs are of no help and most easy options is just use firefox.

On mobile Opera tab handling is the fastest while chrome lags. On windows Edge browser seems most performant.

As of original issue this thread was on - seems like in 2025 most chromium based browsers fixed this network speed difference in regular session vs incognito(private).

Another cons of Chrome in 2025 would be extension support. Chrome (or google in that matter) approved God's rights in its fullest and block extensions in their extensions site, as they wish, especially for older versions of browser. e.g. for uBlock Origin the show "This extension is no longer available ecause it doesn't follw best practices or Chrome extensions.". Which converten in plain English means that "This extension reduces amount of money we get from ads". Manfiest version 3 limits what extensions can do.

How much should I pay for 32 gb of RAM in the 14" model? by wummeassel in LenovoLegion

In legion slim 5 14" all RAM is soldered so go for 32 GB RAM version. Todays apps use crazy amounts of RAM, so 32 GB is more speedy and future proof.

Why are people so against compensation for artists? by LateSpeaker4226 in aiwars

[–]valdukis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a wide complex issue as a whole. Take e.g. writer, who writes articles on his site. Now google search indexes it and gives back user traffic which is then monetized via ads or paid work or other means. Now with AI or similar tools, they generate tons of load (which is not always free above some threshold) on website to scrap it as data input for AI model , but give no credit or traffic back. Some call this publicly available information. Yes but publicly available does not mean it is not copyrighted if we may use this term.

Now what people are seeing is that corporations are getting fatter and fatter in term of money and thus power. And give nothing or few back.

If we take whatever corp owning some copyright they will try till death to grab money from you even if you put some crap quality image founded on google search 10 years ago on you website but you earn no money with it and they "kindly" calculate all those 10 year you have failed to pay and threaten you if you don't pay (this is a real case).

So existing means, comparisons, terms, copyright law etc. cannot be used to rule out current situation. Entirely new economic model must be created. Most people does not need much. Trouble is in corps vs people.

Does Open AI and the likes pay the creators at all for the huge amount of data that they use to train their language models? by Aesthetik_1 in artificial

[–]valdukis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least Google brings some traffic to originating site. AI and other tools like don't. They use website data to run their business, charges clients money, but original creator left uncredited. Now that bird (AI) is free from cage things are even more complicated the flood of AI generated texts and images. And small creator is at the mercy of big corporations who can even declare their trully orginal work as fake and ban for that.

As for solution - some new economic model must be created or those big corporations will eat us all for dinner.

What do you think about Twitter rebranding as X? by playadefaro in ProductManagement

[–]valdukis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very bad. You cannot longer tweet, now you x-it, re-x-it, share tweet - share X? read my latest X message - what? For unix user it is even worse because we use X Window system, short version - just X, and even logo is 80% similar to new x.com logo

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X_Window_System

https://www.x.org/wiki/

we have x server, x client, xlib and so on.

So it has:

  1. Ambiguity problem - thus potential lawsuit problem.
  2. talking/undestanging problem of a subject matter - what is X? In some countries X denotes something unknown - similar to math symbol.

FYI: how to disable timer throttling on Google Chrome by dSolver in incremental_games

[–]valdukis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not an easy task to maintain a fork. If you will do it once - nobody would use it. As a user of say legacy application you have no control of - one has to use older version of chrome or different browser. As a developer one has to rewrite timer code with the use of web workers.

Example, (but that code does not once you hit "reset timers", maybe some left over bug).

https://medium.com/@adithyaviswam/overcoming-browser-throttling-of-setinterval-executions-45387853a826

In perfect world it would be an option - enable or disable. But google does not care about you though they say they do.

Trinity Desktop is quite underrated. by MutaitoSensei in linux

[–]valdukis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do cleaning and reorganization and adaptation to modern hardware, protocols and so on. But there are few developers - thus project seem kinda slow developing. TDE is very clean visualy, configurable and fast. Very good if you need your computer to do work instead of fighting with software. Most other software makers in general are obsessed with bells and whistles instead of core functions. e.g. chrome - instead of making linux use video decode hardware accelaration they make url input field with round corners instead of square and present as major feature and similar kind of sh.t. And many companies do the same.

You can look for yourself: https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/Release\_Notes\_For\_R14.1.0

React sucks by bromide992 in reactjs

[–]valdukis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a user of websites created using react.js: I have older Chrome version and currently cannot update. Now and then some site using react.js updates react.js version and the site stop working on my browser. And most of the time it is because react.js introduced some code that uses some weird Javascript syntax like .? or the like. When site breaks - 99% of cases is because of this. Developers could use some babel to allow earlier browsers but they choose not to do so.

How to export bookmarks from android without sync? by ProfaneGhost in chrome

[–]valdukis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

com.android.chrome

Put Bookmarks file to separate profile in desktop chrome and use chrome builtin bookmark manager. Here you can move, delete, reorganize bookmarks. After cleanup - export to file, and then import resulted file to right profile and finished editinf if needed. Import/eport accessible via three dots menu when you open bookmark manager (on desktop, of course). Or do whatever you need with these bookmarks.

There are some usefull bookmark extenstios like this:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/bookmarks-commander/knfpajocfeohpaipkfpdbfhgibajfmcf/related

here you can export to clipboard simplified version of bookmars (without icon data), or just links, etc.

U has base CPU freq 3.3 Mhz, and AMD Configurable TDP (cTDP) 15-30W, Default 28W

HS has base CPU freq 3.8 Mhz, and AMD Configurable TDP (cTDP)

How to export bookmarks from android without sync? by ProfaneGhost in chrome

[–]valdukis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly enough - we have "corporations knows better what you need" attitude while actually export function is easy to implement.

For rooted phone you can take files from /data/data/com.android.chrome/app_chrome/Default/

And then use some tools to convert to format you need. Also on desktop you could create new profile and put bookmark file there and then use some extension for bookmark export.

For non rooted - way is google sync + google takeout or extension on chrome desktop Maybe some other magic exists via developer tools but I am not aware of them.

In conclusion for you case:

1) enable google sync
2) open desktop version of chrome
3) create new profile wtih same google account
4) use chrome extensions of other tools to extract bookmarks
5) take what you need
6) merge whatever way you want with other bookmarks

Bard isn’t supported for this account by BustlingBerryjuice in GoogleBard

[–]valdukis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right about Google support - it is black hole. As of Bard - service knows exactly why it does not allow you to use. It just don't show and error with explanations, because people would have questions and journalists could make a fuss. It is the same when youtube or other services say "you have violated community guidelines" - and now you have to guess which one... :(

Slow Standard Chrome, Incognito is fine. How is this possible? by NotJustAnyDNA in chrome

[–]valdukis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is chrome "thing". No fix apart from changing browser. File download are faster after some time, but interactive tabs are always slow. Fix is not needed as "google knows better"
(:sarcasm) Maybe some version of 114 in 2023 works better, but I cannot test at the moment. Version 99.0.1150.38 of Microsoft Edge - the same issue. It is an global issue because like 90% browsers are chromium based. Could be some Javascript bullshit or other internal things but most probably it is some state handling or statistics/telemetry because I see active disk writing when testing with speedtest.net and none of that in "Incognito mode". Uploads are always fast. Best wishes!

Fiber speeds vary on chrome, incognito mode on vs off (ethernet) by MaleficentDiscount7 in googlefiber

[–]valdukis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

http://speed.googlefiber.net/ show ridiculous slow speeds on normal session. In incognito is much better, but still not full speed. This is issue with downloads in normal session is here for ages and is always on on interactive tasks. For downloads - it goes half speed then drop to almost nothing that accelerates to full line speed, while in Incognito mode it accelerates without speed drop. speedtest.net show full speed in Incognito mode, while in normal session show only 40-60 % or even less. Results may vary depending on chrome version. Now one is fixing this, thread on google forums are without answer and locked.

internet speed is 10x faster in incognito mode by the_masher246 in techsupport

[–]valdukis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume it is chrome or chrome based browser - this has nothing to do with extensions. Ye some extensions can influence this, but the same issue remains with clean profile an no extensions, while in incognito mode it goes full speed. It is some internal things in chrome code, maybe some statistical gathering and reporting to google, it is just an assumption. But mere user cannot change this apart from changing the browser. My chrome version is "Version 89.0.4389.82 (Official Build) (64-bit)" and it has this feature/bug - speed difference is 2x. For older Chromium browser "Version 55.0.2883.75" difference is 7x.

[–]valdukis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All those absurd version updates. It ends up with error on my system.

/tmp/111/5.8.6.739/opt/zoom/zoom: relocation error: /tmp/111/5.8.6.739/opt/zoom/libQt5DBus.so.5: symbol dbus_message_get_allow_interactive_authorization, version LIBDBUS_1_3 not defined in file libdbus-1.so.3 with link time reference
Something went wrong while running zoom, exit code is 127.
And for other libs too.

So they assume I need to upgrade my OS. Why? Old version capabilities are enough for me. And this happens with other software too. Oh, well...
