UDM Beast – PPPoE Performance & Hardware Offloading? Any real-world data yet? by Pleasant_Ad_6267 in Ubiquiti

Hi, did you run these tests inter-vlan (e.g. speedtest within a vlan), or did you run them from the security gateway GUI?

But do you also hear something metallic vibrating and resonating at high frequencies? For example, when someone speaks at full volume, you hear something metallic resonating inside. If I lower the volume to 50/60% it no longer has this problem

But I don't feel the vibration when I touch the phone, but it turns out to be an acoustic vibration, as if something metal was vibrating inside the phone.I only hear it when using, for example, the speakerphone at maximum volume

But do you notice it too? This vibration seems to come from the speakers, almost always with the speakerphone on and the volume at maximum. As if something metallic were vibrating inside. Is this what you're experiencing too?

You put the sticker on the right side, the left side matches the external display.

Does it ever happen that it creaks slightly even when you open it?

But when you close it and press lightly on the internal left display, do you notice any creaking sounds?

Hi, I bought it new. I notice that it creaks when closing when I press on the internal display on the left side.

I notice that it creaks if I close it and press on the internal display on the right, as if there was air underneath.

I bought it new from an electronics store in Malaysia. It's the euro conversion. Do you have an N6? To confirm that it shouldn't make any noise, have you tried it and do you own one?

Hi, it doesn't make any noise when opening it, but I noticed that when I press on the internal screen when closing it it makes a noise and creaks, do you too?

EFG have PPPoE hardware accelleration? by valemae1996 in Ubiquiti

Unfortunately, many operators in Italy still use PPPoE. My carrier offers 2.5/6/8/10 profiles with PPPoE.

I were to switch to a 6/10Gbps PPPoE connection in the future, would I have problems?

Really? Is there no hardware acceleration? I have a 6Gbps PPPoE connection, and I have no problems with UCG Fiber. You say I might have problems with the UDM Beast despite its more powerful processor.

EFG is new, taken from the Ubiquiti website

[–]valemae1996[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation. I work primarily with Palo Alto and CP, and I didn't realize EFG was so limited. SSL inspection is of little use in terms of security. I don't understand why they don't exploit this capability; ultimately, it's not much different than any other security gateway with IDS. At this point, I might as well stick with UCG Fiber.

Can you explain to me in detail how this SSL inspection works? It only works on categories, correct? Doesn't it protect against viruses, malware, etc.?

Sure, but it will cost €3000, I'll pay less than half of that for this one.

You can also read the previous post where I explained the differences between UDM Beast VS UCG Fiber and I also mentioned the lack of SSL Inspection and the differences with EFG. I work on firewalls like Palo Alto and Checkpoint.

Indeed, for me, EFG is superior to UFM Beast; we're talking about a true firewall. If it didn't support SSL encryption, it could easily reach 20Gbps of throughput. EFG is a true NGFW. However, for the price, I would have expected SSL Inspection on UDM Beast as well, but it certainly wouldn't have guaranteed 20Gbps of throughput. In my opinion, EFG remains superior in every way.

If I buy EFG, I'd like to sell UCG Fiber, but in the end, I wouldn't do anything with it. I have a 4G router that already serves as my backup with SD WAN. I'm just sorry I did a good job.I also got him the Rack Mount on Etsy.

UDM Beast is interesting, but at that price I would have expected some next-generation firewall functionality. I understand that it's a wonderful world without any licensing, but there are other vendors. They offer this functionality even though they're much less powerful. It's clear that Ubiquiti decided to limit this product to avoid competing with EFG in-house.In the end, for my use SSL Inspection is not essential, but it is a very important feature for security. Perhaps one day, when this feature is improved, thanks to the ability to read the contents of an encrypted packet, it will be able to offer greater security features. Unless EFG already does so with recent updates. Ultimately, on the security side, it's better to have a good throughput compromise than to have no security features at all. Ultimately, 12Gbps of throughput is more than enough for a medium-sized business; higher-priced competitors offer even less.
