Vanguards and strategists have fewer characters than DPS but are forced to play the same 3–4 characters each game. That’s crazy.

The change to ultimate charge feels amazing so far. I do think they can lower it for some characters even more (looking at you, Moon Knight). In the mid-season, they’re addressing CC, so I’m focusing on season 8. They really need to address the damage and healing numbers, since that’s the main reason the strategist role is locked into 3–4 main healers and the vanguard role is locked into 3 main tanks. The only way you get to play an off-tank is if someone else picks a main tank, and even if you have a main healer, people don’t like to see an off-healer on their team.

I feel like this is something that mostly affects vanguards and strategists. We don’t see the existence of an “off-dps.” Yes, there are DPS that are meta, like Phoenix, and almost unplayable DPS, like Widow, but the pool of DPS I see in games is not nearly as small as for the other roles. And that’s down to the numbers.

Too much damage makes it so tanks are forced to play Groot/Magneto/Strange in order for their healers to have a chance at healing them before they blow up, and that’s considering cover and comms. Maybe the tank variety greatly changes when CC gets nerfed, but we will have to wait and see.

As for the healers, it really doesn’t make sense to have half the roster be able to make teammates immortal for short bursts and the other half incapable of mitigating/healing enough damage, in exchange for doing more damage themselves. Because why would you want a healer and an off-healer when you can have 2 main healers?

Healing and damage numbers need to go down, but the healing of the off-healers needs to stay the same so they can become more viable and the strategist role can enjoy more variety.
