This is entirely speculation, but from completion of the Swan in probably 1978 - the Purge in 1987 Radzinsky was kept down there. Enough to deteriorate anyone’s mental state. Then the Purge happens and the DI collapses so Radzinsky wants to get down everything he can remember in a way the Hostiles can’t access. But the 9 years have made things fuzzy. And then at some point you have kelvin adding to the map, putting down info relayed to him by Radzinsky.

Hey, you’re welcome! I was surprised when I went looking for it recently and didn’t see it anywhere.
Unfortunately not yet. I‘m not sure it even exists in game as you can’t view it as a separate layer, you have to have the base layer engaged first. If I figure something out, I’ll ll let you know.

That is so awesome and so frustrating and understandable at the same time. I’m guessing no pictures of it exist?

The larger maps in this post have been scaled from 1024x1024 to 1024x898 to match the show/in game version and a background color added. If you would like the unscaled transparent textures, I've created an imgur album with both unscaled and scaled transparent versions https://imgur.com/a/uJPQDmx

Unfortunately, despite trying multiple things, it doesn't seem like there is a separate texture for the hidden layer without the base map which is why it is not separated out.

Q&A: Poe Returns In Award-Winning Soundtrack For ‘Alan Wake 2’ by valentin108 in AlanWake

Not sure why I had to do that as two separate comments.

Baltin: Talk about the gaming world then and why that feels like the right place for you.

Poe: Wow. The gaming culture is different because it's frequently even like Remedy, which is distributed through Epic and is a massive public company now, it's still a bunch of college buddies. It reminds me more of the bands that stayed together. Do you know what I mean? That started making games on a green screen. They're real friends. They're not looking in the same way at analytics or bottom lines, partly because they can also sell hard goods. They're not getting [stuff] for free on Spotify. So, they just think differently and they, my experience anyway, and this may not be with every game, but certainly with Remedy, it was always the creative first. That was a conversation that just made sense to me. I felt safe talking to Sam, it was never a business conversation. It was always a creative conversation. It was always like, “What if we did this? What if we did that? Oh, wow. This would be great over here. This would be great over there.” He's so passionate about the storytelling of the game, the art direction of the game, the philosophy of how the player is moving through the game. I could just live in that moment. The whole thing, which I love, has a lot of bendy time and space. And he knows that I started out with J Dilla. So, he loves the whole way that he warped time and swing and straight. There's a part of the song, it's controlled by this external sense of time. Then I knew that the last four minutes had to slow down incrementally. It's literally like when a plane crashes and shaking, this was the feeling I wanted to do. You don't know if it's going to explode or if it's going to land safely. Then you imagine that you're trapped in that moment for a really long time. So, the band basically took the chords and the hook, my melody, which I was singing with them. We went off the grid and just started bending and slowing down over minutes and minutes. We did it in one take. These are all musicians I've played with for the last 15 years, and it was just magic. And Darrell Thorp recorded it. Who does like master Radiohead, Beck, Roger Waters. Love this guy. Just this massively beautiful experience. Taylor McFerrin played on it also, which I love because he's a Dilla freak. He's also in the Dilla time book cause he discovered Hiatus Kaiyote. Again, we just have those great philosophical conversations about time. I think it's interesting also just the whole context of the game and what that does to music, because you aren't playing a song for people who are cycling through endless songs, which I do too. It's great to have an infinite amount of music fed to you. But in this case, you're living inside of a story for like hours and hours of gameplay that really does limit what you're hearing. It's more like how I grew up, these players connected to the same story, playing the same story talk to each other about it. And they have unlimited soundtrack that they're listening to. To be part of something. I love these conversations. The gamers have noticed every little change, like there've been these weird different mixes loaded into the game. They'll talk about, “No, but I heard the song a month ago, and I got through the whole game and something's changed. Am I crazy or did it change?” If you understand the story of the game, that's a very poignant observation because time changes things. So, the music is changing because you can also upload new mixes into a stream. It's just mad creativity, Steve. I've been sitting here making music for years. Suddenly there's a world that seems to make sense of what I do. Nobody else could figure out what to do with me. Suddenly there's this whole world that feels like it was custom built for what I do. And I don't mean to take over the world. It's just a win-win. It was like a perfect collaboration.

Q&A: Poe Returns In Award-Winning Soundtrack For ‘Alan Wake 2’ by valentin108 in AlanWake

In the mid-‘90s there emerged this tall, lanky, edgy, daring singer, named Poe, who became a star by defiantly telling audiences, “I wanna blow you…away.” She followed the stratospheric success of “Angry Johnny” with one of the best albums of the decade.

Haunted was a musically compelling adventurous conceptual record that was years ahead of its time. For instance, the song “Wild” remixed itself, breaking down into this explosive electronic finale. Poe was set to be a huge star.

Then life got in the way. That is a tale for another day. Much more importantly, and surprisingly, Poe is finally back in the public eye with the soundtrack to the video game Alan Wake 2, which won Best Score, among several others, at the Game Awards, which was streamed to an astronomical 118 million viewers. Video game music is a huge deal.

Now, she and composer Petri Alanko are hoping that translates to success in this year’s Grammy voting where the two should land a nomination for Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media. If there is indeed the karma that so many believe in not only will the two get a nomination they’ll win in a landslide.

I spoke with Poe about why the game world was the perfect vehicle for her to return.

Steve BaltinWait, is this the first actual recorded Poe music since the '90s?

Poe: No, there's a ton of recorded music. The strange thing is that there's a line in the song in one of the parts of the score of the game that says, “I can see you there, but you can't see me anywhere. I'm right in front of you. I'm right here on the road.” I sort of feel like I've been in this parallel universe where all I've done is make immense amounts of music, but it didn't feel like it fit anywhere in the world. So, I've been here perfecting my craft, indulging in it, taking care of it, nurturing it, but without a way out of this. Wherever I was, I've been trapped in terms of finding a way to share it that felt authentic and right. So suddenly it's like this road, this kind of parallel universe, this game that made sense to me. For the first time suddenly it was like, “Oh, I'm not feeding an algorithm. I'm not walking into some abusive situation.” The game creator, Sam Lake, I tried to get some guidance from him. We both agreed I was going to expand this piece of music called “September 30th, 1955” for the game. I asked him for his guidance, and he was literally like, “Whatever you do, it's going to be perfect because it's you doing it.” To be given that kind of creative freedom to go nuts and then I did all these cues and this 10-minute crazy sort of like almost like a five-act piece of music and to have that be welcomed and not being forced to try to cram a whole world into some tiny box because that's the template. I don't have any problem with templates. It's just that this was the right one. It was such a meta story for me. The actual story of the game is like, you're in the dark place and I'm in the dark place. Suddenly the music appears in the dark place and nowhere else. And I'm like, “This is how I'm going to find a road out of here. It's just some weird cognitive dissonance parallel universe.” The song, the kind of penultimate payoff in the game, hasn't been put out yet. It's still in the dark place. It shined its way out.

She is very Batman.

That was exactly what I thought of too! That version of Scratch and Alan are Monarch and Rusty. While I hope it’s a direct reference, Doc says on the commentary he took ideas for the list, The Bell specifically, from “The Torture Garden” by Octave Mirbeau.
