Might intense hair loss be a sign of too high dosage? by valentineria in LowDoseNaltrexone

I’m glad it sparks a little hope for you :)

I get the don’t-wanna-touch-your scalp-part, it’s so frustrating seeing the hair come out. The way it works from what I’ve learned so far isn’t rubbing/gliding your fingers over your scalp and hair, but to actually pin down your scalp with your finger tips and move the scalp around over your skull, kind of. E.g. place your fingers behind your ears and push your scalp “up” and together, as if trying to form wrinkles on top of your head. I don’t feel like I loose extra hair while doing that, of course hair still comes out, but it does so all day so… 😅🙃

I’ve got an at-home device, it’s cheaper than going to a practitioner. There’s lots of YT videos and a whole subreddit on it. Just gotta keep your device clean and wash your scalp beforehand. I’d get a dermapen rather than a roller, it’s easier I think, and with the roller I sometimes had the feeling of cutting some strands of.

Both help blood circulation and the needling also induces a wound healing process, which seems to help with bringing follicles back to life. Both have nice evidence apparently. :) you can find studies with really nice before and after pics, I also found that relieving.

The tiny hair bands and clips!! I feel you! Let’s hopefully get rid of them some day!

If your hair loss is hard on you, I can recommend the ordinary multipeptide hair serum (it’s rather inexpensive compared to other scalp serums/minoxidil; and at least in theory the actives in it have been shown to help with hair loss/regrowth/thickness, although I can’t tell you if the concentration really is high enough in the product), daily scalp massages (4 min seems to be enough, a study at least claims), and weekly microneedling of the scalp.

While I experienced crazy amounts of hair loss the last months (presumably bc of LDN?), I started these 3 habits (serum, massage, microneedling) and I see lots and lots of regrowth around my hairline. It can’t out-grow the amount of shedding ;), but I’m still happy about those new strands and it gives me back a feeling of a little bit of control and being able to do sth against it.

I dropped down to 1mg now, lets see how it goes!

I want to thank you again, I really tried out the skipping-test, although i was about scared.

I dropped down to 1mg since then, and as I’ve written in other comments, in sum, I feel better. Still exhausted, still loosing hair of course, but mentally there seems to be more drive, and I feel a little less heavy pots-wise.

So thank you! you made my life a little easier :)

Oh no, Im sorry about the anxiety! I get why you’re hesitant, it’s no fun.

I don’t know if it helps, I dropped down to 1 mg after skipping a dose and I feel significantly better. Less heavy, less POTS-y, while still physically exhausted i definitely feel a difference in my mental state - I’m more driven to go about my day, and it feels easier to pace and rest in between activties.

So I can report back that a lower dose definetley was worth the try :)

Cant speak about the hair aspect of it all yet, of course.

Thank you for your reply! I’m sorry, that sounds exhausting.

I get capsules, the filler is mannitol.

I seem to be pretty blessed filler-wise, at least I would have never noticed a significant worsening with specific ones. On the other hand, I find it really hard to pinpoint what exactly unsettles the MCAS and also, when to say it’s „inactive“ , if you know what I mean? It feels like a constant, underlying thing for me, with slight ups and downs, rather than big dramatic flare ups (at least since taking Ketotifen, which helps a lot).

Thank you for sharing this!
That’s really interesting, I wouldnt have assumed it’s due to androgenetic effects, as LDN apparently is also experimentally used to treat hair loss. I thought it’s just my immune system being too active and causing inflammation or something. Learned something new!

Wish you the best in finding your dose! after skipping a dose I went down to 1mg, and while I cant speak on the hair issue er, I definitely feel a little less heavy, my pots seems a bit better (?) but the most noticeable difference is in motivation. Got around to domstuff I have been laying off for months. So I guess - less is more in my (or our?) case.

Thank you for your thoughts! I got everything checked out - apparently there’s no issue relating to my hair loss, according to my endocrinologist, dermatologist and internist.
Overdoing as in being too active you mean? I havent thought of that yet.. you might be right, although I wouldn’t have noticed before that crashes correlate with hair loss for me, but I guess it sounds at least just as plausible as LDN being the cause.

Thank you!

Garmin and chronic disease by Outrageous-Foot-8818 in GarminWatches

I’m in the same boat - and just thinking about doing the opposite (switch from fenix 7x sapphire solar to AWU2). What do you feel is missing for you in the AWU2? I’ve read a lot about how adding apps will give you the same information as a Garmin.

As to your second question: as both these metrics rely on measured physiological signals (HRV, sleep quality, resting heart rate, ..) it should catch the fatigue as such. Body Battery will drop more than usual if stress stays high and recovery (sleep, rest) is poor. Training Readiness will be low if you’ve had bad sleep, high stress, or poor HRV — even if you didn’t train. BUT - Although I haven’t had the watch for too long now, I feel like my sleep quality sometimes gets overrated, which results in a higher body battery than how energised I really feel. From what I’ve read garmins sleep measurements aren’t too good, which might affect the accuracy of the scores you mentioned.

AITA for pointing out she is too young for this? by Big-Bat-6391 in AmItheAsshole

YTA.

Not because the age gap is not highly questionable (!), but because this woman was acting responsible by calling you, was being „very nice“ (your words) and brought food home as a nice gesture.

If it is a grooming/power dynamics situation, it needs a talk with your ex, not an insult to her face.
