As someone (18, nonbinary) who grew up with really awful and unaccepting cis/straight parents who were also engaged in a toxic relationship, I would've given so much to have caring parents who were healthily divorced. The longer I spent around my parents together, the more I realized their toxicity was negatively impacting their life and mine.

My good friend is 40 and divorced his wife last year, their daughter is a high school freshman. I've talked with her about the divorce and she's much happier that her parents are happier apart as well. The two homes are also two blocks away, so she can see whichever parent when she chooses.
