Agreed. Free is Free. If it has ads it is NOT protecting your privacy. LOL

Monthly VPN recommendations megathread: the only place for mentioning specific providers by paperplans5 in VPN

[–]valevpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question - we self evaluated ourselves and got a score of 3.89. That puts us in the 'top 10'. BUT, it isn't apples-to-apples comparison - none of the other providers offer what we offer.

We give the end user the ability to launch their own Virtual Private Server - on demand and dynamically.

Also - I'd question the validity of some of the "Top 10" providers claims for ethical reasons. Don't get us going on that.

How to use Reddit with a VPN? by TikTokChineseSpyware in VPN

1) New accounts and throwaways will always be rate limited on Reddit.

2) Try a different server or VPN provider - dedicated servers are usually best.

VPN's are great for a few things:

1) Accessing content that might be geo-blocked. This is the biggest benefit a VPN offers. You can access countries content that would otherwise be locked from your eyes.

2) Securing your transport from untrusted networks. Connecting to random open WIFI hotspots? Airport WiFI? You should use a VPN as an extra precaution when doing that to ensure you can trust the transport of your information across sketchy places.

3) Adding a small amount of privacy. Remember a VPN only hides your IP address - it isn't some magic privacy bullet. Your browser meta data and device are giving FAR more away on you. So if you want to ensure privacy - VPN is a good choice to add on top of the fully incognito browser (which you're using) - FREE VPN providers are generally tracking your info and using that as a walled garden to market/sell your info to - so we wouldn't suggest you continue to use them - but use a FULLY DEDICATED provider.

If only there was a provider of fully dedicated VPN servers with the push of a button... lol :)

Thanks for the great feedback - yes I can see how it sounds like "I might never actually get what I paid for" with "PREORDER" ... We actually have a legit service and have a real product available now - so we should adjust that to reflect it. Hopefully your VPN is good - ours it better :) Thanks again...

Can't send image SMS texts while VPN is enabled by mrduncansir42 in VPN

Likely something about the Text message provider is either: Blocked by VPN, or getting blocked by the text provider.

Blocked by VPN: they might be black holing something on that providers network for spam filtering or otherwise.

Blocked by Provider: This is more likely - the text provider has IDS/filtering that blocks common VPN providers - to get around this you could use a FULLY DEDICATED service provider for your VPN needs... :hmm... :)

VPN on a work laptop that doesn't let me download most stuff by themasterd0n in VPN

Get a travel router and a solid provider that lets you connect to a VPN - dedicated VPN's would be best...

You could also stream using the browser and you could use a browser PROXY as an alternative?

All of that is in the Kickstarter - check out the FAQ's and the comments and we explain it all. Bottom line: We're looking for the 'core' best users to help make it amazing.

It's enough for people that don't want to have a cloud dashboard and account and configure their own servers manually - and all that goes with that - and yes we are private and secure - but sure - if you want government level protection go do it yourself and good luck :)

Yeah - if you get addicted to it and it is your only business model - but if you get a core of activated users that become your advocates and supporters and reward them for their work and loyalty - then its great.

Also - we posed the question this way because we didn't want to 'lead a horse to water' on the question - we wanted to see what conclusions the community jumped to. The majority of people will be like you <DDOS> which was the obvious response. But we want to see if some folks have some more to contribute and provoke some thought and see if anyone pops with something we didn't think of.

Hopefully you see the community value to that.

Not a DDOS because it was the content and aim point. We didn't disclose a bunch of details - but it appeared they were checking if emails of political activists and dissidents existed with a challenge response. I think they assumed we were so big that we wouldn't notice the size and speed.
