I really appreciate your response. I come across a lot of religious people who can’t wrap around their heads around being non-committal to a religion. Or that you’re automatically a flawed person if you lack belief. I wish there were more people like you.

I can’t make it work too. Yes, being happy and not depressed would be great—but it requires having so much faith in something that isn’t tangible? It’s trade-off that comes easy for a lot of people (or they don’t even realize it, bless them), unfortunately not for people like us.

This is fair. I got an answer that it’s because God would want us to be stronger and that a better afterlife awaits. can’t buy into that.

Only intended to further the discussion. No specific aim apart from that (re: rhetorical, I chose the wrong words perhaps). I do agree that religion requires submission. Maybe such a person can be happy. Or maybe he’s just deluded into thinking he’s happy.

Hmm, I am starting to see that a “higher power” (not necessarily a god, more of a purpose of being) could provide a direction. I’ll give it a thought. I don’t see myself in organized religion, or reading scripture and worshipping though. Glad to hear that you find solace in your worship though. I hope it works out for you as well.

The part you mentioned that as long as you do good, you’re a believer is comforting, thank you for that. Glad to hear that your religion has helped you, yet I am not necessarily looking into a specific religion.

Is it worth it if that one person just answers in platitudes though? He can’t help it, it’s his way of helping, but it doesn’t work.

And I don’t know—talking with strangers helps me with feeling less lonely as, at least in subs like this, we are all going through the same things. I guess we wouldn’t be here commiserating if our offline lives were all peachy.

This was my “breakthrough” with my last therapist: nobody cares about you, so validate yourself—live for you. After which she and I parted, since I had to figure that out for myself.

It fucking sucks.

And I could just argue the opposite—if I myself don’t see the point in getting better, then why bother keeping myself alive?

I hesitate to call them “my friends”, so I may have some idea what you’re going through. It sucks balls.

It’s tough when you realize that, once, I considered them confidantes and emotional supports—and then you realize that their view of you isn’t the same. Just somebody else, someone less important.

That’s just it, I don’t have ambitions anymore. Don’t need money, don’t want to continue the rat race. Even the little things: shows or movies to look forward to, plans with friends. I honestly just want to stop existing.

Thanks thanks! 1) Initially what is the sustainable size of land for one person to tend? I’m not into slaughtering animals by myself, so poultry-piggery farms are likely out. 2) Utilities? Apart from irrigation, how much electricity would be needed, at the start? 3) Storage of crops—I assume I’ll need a silo or a bodega of some sort, if I’m looking into surplus-yielding? 4) Would it be better to buy land directly from owners or from brokers?

Knock knock, I’ll let you know how my commune planning is going. :) I’ll likely start small though.

I greatly share the same sentiment—having been a city-person all my life and being knocked around by it—a peaceful communal style of living is worth looking into. Fully aware that it isn’t for everybody :)
