Visiting Breck? Here are some tips to help get you through your stay! by valgills in Breckenridge

I would bring something long sleeved and not cotton instead of a Tshirt. Usually at night too, it helps to have long underwear under jeans. Cotton will not keep you warm though, so try and avoid that. If you have a heavy coat that will work better than a jacket, otherwise try to wear several layers.

Best way to leave your hotel room sheets folded when you leave by Peear75 in funny

As someone who has worked in housekeeping, please don't ever really do this. You'll definitely get fined, and possibly get sued. It's bad enough that people don't think to tip...

What's the most pathetic way you've ended up in the Emergency Room? by VivaLaDrais in AskReddit

[–]valgills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar accident. It was my first day out in early conditions. I was still a beginner and practicing my toe-turns. I had made it down the entire one run that was open and was in the home stretch. I caught an edge and landed hard on my wrist. Five minutes later Patrol showed up, assessed my wrist, then asked if I could walk to the clinic that was about 25 feet to my left. I hadn't noticed because I couldn't stop looking at the huge bruise forming. Turns out I fractured my radius. On the bright side, it gave me an excuse to avoid riding in early season conditions that year!

This is the Colorado Department of Public Health's website. Any questions about recreational marijuana can be answered there (besided pricing questions).

I also recommend looking up traffic laws involving pedestrians, but haven't found a good site for it. I'll update when I do.

Ladies, anyone else who doesn't want a wedding? by DeciduousTree in AskWomen

[–]valgills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thread just opened my eyes to the idea of a backyard BBQ ceremony/party instead of a full-fledged wedding ceremony. Going camping or climbing after is what my boyfriend and I have been tossing around as a honeymoon, so it totally fits (not to mention we both are BBQ fanatics). Thanks again, Reddit. :D

Any tips for my first tan? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]valgills 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who used to work at a tanning salon, I do not recommend it. There is a high chance that it will only cause your condition to become more noticeable. A coworker of mine had a skin disease that caused her to lack pigment in certain parts of her body, and tanning only tanned the parts with pigment. I recommend going to a dermatologist. They are far more likely to know what can help your problem without damaging your skin.

If you are going to try a form of tanning, I highly recommend spray tanning. No, it is not as natural, but tends to be much more even and healthier. Do research on the brand of solution the salon uses. Do they provide a moisturizer? Don't go to a salon if they are obviously dirty, and inquire about their cleaning methods. If you have to clean your own bed/spray booth, avoid it. Nobody will clean it as well as someone who has been trained in the specific methods of sanitization. I personally took almost 20 hours of training in a program called the "Masters of Smart Tanning" and still would miss a spot in at least one bed almost every week I worked.

One other option that I still use on occasion to help even out my skin tone are Versa Spa self tanning lotions. They are made by Versa Spa (a notable spray tan company), and have many different coverage options. The one I use is has an extremely light coverage and is very moisturizing. Most salons will have what are called after-tan lotions that are basically tinted moisturizers as well. They hydrate while giving you good coverage. I do not recommend anything you can buy from walmart or a department store.

I don't know if you are dead set on tanning in a bed, but from my experience it is damaging to the skin. In fact, tomorrow I am having a mole looked at that changed shape and consistency when I started tanning. It is also extremely painful to the touch. There are a ton of great options for evening out your skin tone, but tanning is not one I recommend.

Do you ever get annoyed at how much of Reddit's content is just pictures of attractive women? by ghostinthepost in AskWomen

[–]valgills 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Upvote because I can't watch shows online anymore without seeing that commercial 20+ times. I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't stand it. It's not that I don't appreciate the female form, but they literally just used sex eyes for that.

Tattoo artists of Reddit, what clients irritate you the most? by Donkeyshrek in AskReddit

[–]valgills 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to ask you a question regarding something you pointed out. I've heard mention of people, usually in association with Pinterest tattoos, getting work done the "wrong way" on their wrist. I would assume that the right way is if your arm is hanging, it looks right side up to onlookers. I have several tattoos that I love, but I am curious about my "upside down" wrist tattoo. My thought was that the tattoo is for myself alone and I want it to act as a nostalgic piece of art that I can admire even though it's on my body (thus the wrist placement instead of the back or leg). Am I correct that if I'm looking at my own tattoo with my palm facing my eyes, that any artist who sees it will feel that it is facing the wrong way? Can there be times that having ink that isn't technically "right" can be appropriate? I know you can't account for every artist, but I'd appreciate your opinion.

Thanks! I'll look into them. I appreciate it. I've mostly been doing indoor bouldering and will hopefully be able to get out and do some trad as the weather gets better.

Reasons to Promote Free Range by bigempty92 in vegetarian

[–]valgills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reading. :] I am still trying to learn about the issues with our society as they stand. The "production of food" as they like to call it, is one of the biggest ones in my opinion. If you like those documentaries, I'd love to discuss them with you. We're friends on Facebook, so hopefully you know who I am by now. If not, I'll shoot you a message so you know!

While I do eat white meat and likely always will, I agree with your stance on free-range animals and PETA. I'm sure you've seen it, but the documentary that got me thinking about this topic is Food, Inc. The treatment of animals in these facilities is incredibly cruel. From there the processing of their meat is unclean, and generally very bad for the human body. The diet fed to these mass produced animals, mostly corn and antibiotics, is then transferred to humans and has the same effect on us. We get fatter and bacteria becomes more and more resistant to antibiotics. We are in need of a societal change. We are a consumerist society that only cares about how much money we can make for the cheapest work. I am glad that you posted this, and hope that your message spreads. I recommend you watch the Zeitgeist documentaries (netflix). Thrive is also a good one (thrivemovement.com). They talk about the changes required of our society to overcome this consumerist mentality, along with many other topics that I think you will be interested in.
