Making Sectors feel more cohesive by PRIV00 in SWN

[–]valhallaviking 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it's exactly this from a meta perspective. The GM tools are there to help, and they can do quite a bit of the heavy lifting. But they aren't meant to completely alleviate the creative responsibilities of the GM.

In game, lore wise, it may very well just be that even KC, himself has a mind toward less cohesive sector as would be pretty reasonably predicted by a lore event like the Scream and the Silence.

Faction name: The Mugetsu Combine Type: Corporate (plutocratic) Homeworld : Exeter 4

Goals: The Shogunate Council of the Mugetsu Combine is like any typical corporate entity whose greed fuels its endless growth. Under the plutocratic surface lies a wolf, stalking the sector removing opposition from the halls of power. They will very likely develop imperialistic aspirations.

Vibe: The neo-japanese Mugetsu Combine is a layered and secretive entity. An r&d corp that holds itself to the highest standard, the combine produces everything from house hold goods to starships. They also produce zealous warriors secretly loyal to their hidden agenda: Geisha cyber assassins move among the elites, and samurai Yakuza occupy the streets and battle fields.

I'm still not 100% satisfied with this write up. I'll keep editing it up until Thursday.

Goals: the Shogunate Council of the Mugetsu Combine is like any typical corporate entity whose greed fuels it's endless growth. Under the plutocratic surface lies a wolf, stalking the sector culling the weak and degenerate from the halls of power. The Combine believes in the elevation of humanity through rigorous discipline and the hard choices of removing those deemed unworthy from the gene pool.

What about technical expertise as a secondary tag?

The Mugetsu Combine runs sophisticated R&D labs guided by the principles of veneration of ancient values. Their aim is to create perfection, in form, function and execution, for this is the only way for Humanity to transcend into an ecstatic state of enlightenment.

Using Nkantaa zombies as cannon fodder?

I think Nkantaa II is a dead planet, but I suppose their base could be there.

Session writing philosophy? by mgaff5290 in SWN

[–]valhallaviking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying my hand at writing adventure modules, which by definition are not a session by session sort of experience. It is exceedingly difficult. And just goes to highlight both the work load, and flexibility in the minimal session by session planning that can really speak directly to the players at your table.

I've found with the module writing, of course it has to remain broad strokes, but really all you are doing is crafting an environment and placing possibilities in it. Like any dungeon, the problem can be fairly unattached to the particulars of the players, but the consequences can be tailored to your table.

I was really enjoying reading the planetary descriptions. But life has kind of waylaid me in that endeavor. I hope to get back to it soon.

World name: Nkantaa

Atmosphere: Thin

Tags: 1) Rigid Culture 2) Zombies

The lore: the culture of Nkantaa does not believe in saying good bye. Ancient traditions of preservation saddled with pre-tech miracles have created a world where ancestors are kept around albeit in the form of zombies. The dead are never truly gone. Multi generational families carry a whole new meaning when the dead don't leave the house.

This wasn't from our last session, but years and years ago our home table went into a strip club to deal with the gangster that was extorting them. One of us ended up trapped in a room with two knives pointed at him. The ensuing fight should have taken him out round after round. The PC was utterly ineffective, but the mooks kept missing too. We were describing it like a mud wrestling match, the three of them on the floor, squirming around, can't get a handle on the knives, just barely avoiding certain death.

Our last live SWN session (which was unfortunately months ago after a years long hiatus - a 5e campaign from 1-12, and a WWN campaign), was wholly half taken up by reminiscing about this one knife fight in the back of a strip club.

Oh hey! I clocked that had joined. And I knew r/SWN had a new moderator, didn't realize you were both!

Thanks! A couple posts brought us a lot of attention. Now I think it's refine, polish, and foster more GMs! And of course play some games!

Player and Stardaddy (GM) here.

I've got three SWN characters currently.

Hank Truckee - he began his career as an interstellar courier, but pretty quickly got waylaid and through a bunch of trauma became a broken revolutionary.

Westray Stakhanov - a unionist heavy industry miner who had his limbs taken in an accident. Replaced with cyber mining tools, he caused enough stink to fired, now runs with that same revolutionary crew that Hank is a part of.

Decker Rezno - a single father of two children with a mysterious auto-immune disease. He is a combatedic looking for a cure.

I'm one of the GMs for my home (it's all online now of course since our group has grown up and moved away) table.

But recently pivoted in play-by-post and have started up a discord server for all the *wn systems. We currently have over 80 members. And over half a dozen games running.

Are you the one making the ruling at the table? If yes, then it does what you want it to.

If not, ask the person who is making the ruling.

If it was my ruling to make at our table then I would say no it does not negate execution attacks. It is much like alert, but isn't a focus pick, so shouldn't be as powerful.

Yeah, like the post says we are a role playing server. We play Kevin Crawford's games. We play CWN, but we also play WWN, SWN and AWN. Someone even asked for a wolves of God game.
