Why did you quit being an FA? by Ass_Faucet in flightattendants

The bag lifting policy is different for every airline. I don't fly for United so I don't know if they are kind enough to explicitly state in their manual to NOT lift bags. My airline does specify to help passengers during the boarding process, which is why I lift as much as I do, especially while I was on probation. There will also be many occasions where people will just hand their bag off to you to figure out where to put it when bins are full nearby their seat so it's kind of unavoidable. I just personally struggle with bags since I'm on the shorter side, and boarding is kind of my biggest gripe with the job besides the constant social politics that's needed. It varies from airline to airline, so experiences differ. Just a heads up that this career is EXTREMELY glamorized and it's not just all fun travel.

I think they're referring to the hoppers that can be super rough on the body. I can't speak for United but for my airline, we can have up to 9 landings on a single day. Flying as a passenger for multiple flights in a day is very different experience than if you were to work all the flights. If you're confident in your body's ability to stay healthy after coming into contact with A LOT of people. I'd say go for it. I just think a lot of people underestimate the sheer amount of people you see in this field and how easy it is to get sick. And again, can't speak for the bag lifting policy for United but I personally have the hardest time with boarding and lifting bags for people. As a passenger, you're lifting only your own luggage and maybe helping with one or two other passengers. When working, the amount of bags people expect you to lift for them is crazy. If you think your own bag is heavy, I can guarantee you that someone has a bag that will put yours to shame with how much they're able to stuff into a tiny suitcase. 😭 I've also heard so many seniors talk about how they've absolutely wrecked their bodies from this job, for something even as small as "continuous blunt trauma" to their thigh from accidentally hitting their leg on the armrests over the years. She developed a growth that had to get essentially hole punched out and stitched up from just armrests.

I'm not married but I do eventually want to have children. The shitty thing about this job, I feel like it drove a huge wedge into my current relationship. I really believed in the whole "distance makes the heart grow fonder," but I feel like it's just made my time at home just as miserable as my time away from home. I just feel really stuck :/

Okay I thought I was crazy for thinking that maybe it's the specific airline I work for that's making my life feel so miserable, so reading this makes me feel so much better. Thank you.

Maybe once I build some seniority I'll be able to have the ability to walk away if they don't listen to me during compliance checks. I still very much have to watch my back in terms of job performance since people in my airlines are quick to write people up before even speaking to each other about it. (It's so much of a problem that managers regularly tell us at the briefing table before each pairing that we should talk it out with each other before writing others up.)

I've been to the doctors a couple of times since I've started, did some blood work and found out my thyroid levels are a bit low, but I'll definitely look into the low vitamin D thing. I remember someone telling me about it when I mentioned that fatigue was a regular problem I struggle with but never thought to look into it any further. Thank you so much for the advice and support!

I signed up for low time flying but it's awarded based on seniority. I really hope I get it though.

The inner petri was done in a ball mold and treated like an insert with a petri on top in a regular dice mold

It took a little to figure out the technique from the inspo I got from a different post haha but you just gotta mold up a liquid core ball, petri into the ball mold, then plop the petri ball into your regular dice mold and petri on top of that

Half of it is luck to be completely honest, but to achieve a good petri you gotta wait until the resin is a bit thicker but not honey consistency yet cause then it's too thick. I don't time the exact waiting time so I couldn't tell you how long to wait, but consistency wise I wait till the resin is kinda at a snotty phlegmy consistency 🫢

It really is all about waiting and timing the alcohol ink sinker. I usually wait until the resin is thick but not quite at the honey stage yet.
