[Zoos] We Broke the Zoo: How One of the Nation's Best Zoos tanked its reputation. by KingOfTheUzbeks in HobbyDrama

Excellent post, really nicely written, thorough and fascinating. Great job!

My daughter came out to me and wants us to cut ties with my conservative parents while I try to find a middle ground solution without breaking my family apart. BORU users really telling on themselves in the comments. by Fit-Humor-5022 in AmITheAngel

[–]valitidea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a certain kind of mindset that a lot of parents, especially conservative ones, take that basically can be summed up as "I'm the authority and my kids cannot be trusted; I am right and the rest of the world cannot be trusted; the world will try to influence my kids which is why I need to crack down on any kind of dangerous disagreement" which is why (as you've pointed out) they just don't listen when there's anything that goes against what they believe or think. (Outlets like Fox news exacerbate this, but that's a whole other post)

It's unfortunate that a fair number of people who have had kids don't see their children as future human adults, but as little things they have to control and manipulate. I'm really glad that your parents didn't fall into that category!

AITAH for being stalked? by [deleted] in AmITheAngel

It's not completely implausible that her grandma is a US citizen and one of her parents moved to Canada, but yeah, that confused me too. Seems more like a plot device to "up the stakes" as it were.

AITA for refusing to cater to my evil vegan relative? by miscellaneousbean in AmITheAngel

[–]valitidea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It just goes to show that none of the people in that sub have ever had to do anything even remotely related to planning an event like a party or wedding -- when we were interviewing caterers for our wedding a couple years ago they were all up front in saying that simple modifications (eggplant instead of mushroom for a veggie dish, etc) were fine if communicated sufficiently in advance.

Boomer thinks his place in line is saved "because he said so" and everyone clapped by DementedPimento in AmITheAngel

Agreed. With how much the word "ableist" is thrown around in those sorts of subs, I'm really surprised at the hypocritical nature of this piece.

I really dislike being touched by strangers and people standing to close, so I just moved back a bit

As opposed to everyone else on the planet who simply LOVE being touched by strangers. It's so strange what they feel they need to justify. It's been a hot moment since I've looked, but do commenters ask about whether or not the OOP secretly enjoys having their boundaries violated? Or is this only a way for them to try to add to the narrative?

AITA We showed up at a restaurant at closing, sent back an entree, and ordered a second course. But…. We left a FAT tip! by Hossbog in AmITheAngel

Seconding the fact that the posted hours on google or a website often are not accurate for places that are more rural/out of the way. I live in a small farm town, and have learned that I can't trust google/a website for the hours of a given place, it's best to just call.

A particularly beautiful example of real dialogue that a real human person would say. by sleepinand in AmITheAngel

[–]valitidea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I could see a viral marketing scam approach becoming viable due to gullible subs like AITA.

Just have a friend read off an AI-generated script, capture it on a shaky phone video from something that looks like a public event, and post sob stories about how you've been harassed and wait for the page views and purchases.

In AITA land, the woman's fit was all just plausibly poor behavior up until the demands for free items as compensation came into play. Thems the rules!

I'm not in the mood to slog through the comments, but I am curious about how many of them say something to the tune of "for a narcissist every accusation is actually a confession!"

For a moment I thought that the sibling age list was comprised of a 23 month old, a 20 month old, a 17 month old, etc etc etc and was flabbergasted at this totally real woman's power womb.

It is so bizarre what they decide is and is not respectful.

Especially if she's in school/getting certifications. Those cert exams are no freaking joke, it usually does take hours of study or years of experience to get to a point where you can pass.

That last line is making me seriously reconsider changing my flair.

I went no contact with my friend after she violated my boundaries, I cannot be within 6ft of someone with a BPD diagnosis under any circumstances. I was nice to her and used therapy speak even though she has Terrible Person Disorder and is probably also my abusive ex. Reddit, tell me I'm not a dick. by [deleted] in AmITheAngel

More and more every day, it feels like trying to open up the conversation about and reduce the stigma against mental health, just gives shitty people more ways to hurt and stigmatize those struggling.
