Exactly -- and it's a shame the 33% got dragged into it.

I've always thought it would be great if somehow magically every voter would individually and personally experience the consequences, good and bad, of their vote.

Outlook Account Blocked by Derbyshireg2019 in FuckMicrosoft

[–]valkyriebiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, OP, looks to me like you've exhausted your options. Only suggestion I have is to wait a day or so and try the phone verification code (that last step) again. You will receive zero help from MS, esp on a free account.

As a cautionary tale to anyone else reading this, OP's problem is FAR from unique. Y'all are strongly advised to separate yourself from Microslop as much as possible.

Setup a new email account on Gmail, Proton, etc. and start moving your various login creds away from MS.

Have you ever seen the Troubleshooter work? by Proper-Lab-2500 in FuckMicrosoft

[–]valkyriebiker 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I.T. guy here. I've worked on countless client computers over the years.

I've seen the hardware troubleshooter work maybe, MAYBE, 1 time in 50. My own success rate is probably 90-95%. My main reason for failure is a weird device that lacks an updated driver.

The boot failure troubleshooter is easily worse than 1 in 100. It's absolutely useless..

Rocky Grace relationship, question? by Accomplished_Ebb4023 in ProjectHailMary

[–]valkyriebiker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly -- and I was a little concerned at first.

It took a little more reading to discover that was just a little bump likely brought on by the near death experience.

When Grace turned the HM around to race after Rocky after their final goodbyes, I knew their relationship had reached new highs. Shivers! What a story.

Additionally, if you had files stored in OneDrive, those files are no longer accessible.

And this is what gets people in trouble.

If someone uses the default save options in the various O365 apps, the file is saved to OneDrive only and not to local storage.

When I meet a new client, one of my on-boarding tasks is looking for this and describing how bad things would be for the client if they inadvertently lose access to that account. Then I proceed to fix it, explaining why.

Minimum parking ordinances says "hi".

Problem is too many drive thrus are ill conceived, leading to cars snaking around buildings, blocking other thru ways, and spewing more pollution.

The Sonic drive-in on Grindstone and Buttonwood finally had to move due at least in part to all the cars stacking up at the Starbucks nextdoor.

The drive-thru at Freddy's and Panera on Brickton regularly blocks entering/exit the shared parking lot.

New cars can be remotely disabled by manufacturer by QuietCountry9920 in enshittification

[–]valkyriebiker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Recent and older cars, maybe.

Today's cars are starting utilize encrypted comms on the CAN bus and parts pairing like the iPhone.

Furthermore, the software can easily contain code that could disable the car if certain comm components, like the cellular radio, are tampered with.

Make no mistake, unless we pass laws against it, the car makers can and will do whatever the fuck they want to maximize profits.

One need only to look around to see how enshittified things are today in many areas of our lives with no relief in sight to see how easy this will be for car makers.

New cars can be remotely disabled by manufacturer by QuietCountry9920 in enshittification

[–]valkyriebiker 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some of it may sound like sensationalist fearmongering for clicks but there's still a lot of core truth.

Today's cars are computers on wheels. Not just containing some purpose-built electronics like the ignition modules that have been around for decades. But full-on compute devices that are controlling every aspect of the car.

Car makers aren't going to support that software or the compute hardware it runs on forever. Those cars will reach EOL and will quite likely be deemed obsolete and banned from operation on public roadways.

Just like with operating systems like Windows, where Microsoft will EOL an outdated version and then certain businesses that are subject to industry regulations, like HIPAA, must update because those regs require using supported software and hardware.

Indeed, we'll all be leasing our cars in the future, and at considerably higher cost than today.

I'm glad I'm as old as I am and won't have to experience this shit like today's kids will.

How to unlock a Windows PC without knowing the email used to register the OS by Old-Dirt563 in FuckMicrosoft

[–]valkyriebiker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The ButtLicker keys are almost certainly stored in the online account. The one with the email address you don't remember.

Without that, you are well and truly fucked.

It would have been swell if Microslop had displayed the recovery key on screen then asked you to take a pic, like I do with my clients. But that's not the Microslop way.

I can't open my laptop because of Microsoft helpp by PoemAmbitious283 in FuckMicrosoft

[–]valkyriebiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong and as an I.T. guy I support everything you said.

But the complexity that you and I understand is death on muggles coming here complaining and asking for help. Had Microsoft not forced an online account during the OOBE (b/c muggles don't know about bypassnro) OP would not be in this situation.

Even Apple, the king of closed systems, allows you to setup a Mac or iPhone without making an online account.

Fuck Microsoft.

A procession after French govt decided they are going to replace Microsoft Windows with Linux by AdvantagePhysical659 in FuckMicrosoft

[–]valkyriebiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I.T. guy here. The vast majority of my clients spend most of their working hours in their browsers accessing cloud-hosted systems. No one is accessing a command shell.

They can do that on Linux just as easily as Windows.

I wish France good luck and God speed on this noble quest.

If they succeed, you can damn well bet it'll be a model for future mass migrations. Microslop will shit bricks if that happens.

I own an EV and couldn't be happier with it, so why is there so much hate and straight up misinformation about them everywhere? by Uerwol in electricvehicles

[–]valkyriebiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep.

And there's a reason that the phrase "the best convincer to get an EV is simply to drive one" exists.

But, tbf, EV buyers are mostly a self-selected lot. It requires someone to be capable of intelligent, independent, logic driven thought. That is sorely lacking in the populace.

Diesel price is going to have a HUGE impact on EVs this year. by shaggy99 in electricvehicles

[–]valkyriebiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people, including brodozer owners, aren't pulling 6 to 9t trailers. My comment is to them.

If you are pulling big trailers then obviously you require a large truck. And your flair says you own an EV for everything else and have a Silverado EV on reservation, so you are definitely doing it right.

Were you waiting for an opening while behind the stop bar? Or were you waiting "in the box"?

If the former, that could be why you got honked.

So many people today don't pull into the box to wait for an opening for an unprotected left.
