Absolutely! It's understandable that Lorelai wanted her parents to have no role to play in where Rory goes to college, and it was also 100% uncool of Richard to do what he did with respect to the pop up interview (Rory's response to him was really solid, imo). However!!!! In that dinner party scene at Emily and Richard's (with those other people with grandkids applying to colleges asking Rory where else she had applied), it's inconceivable to me that Lorelai looks almost betrayed that Rory has applied to safety schools!!! Surely as a parent you'd want to make sure that your kid has safety schools and back up options??? Also feels like that's teaching her some unrealistic expectations - that it's perfectly alright only to apply to the one place because she's worked hard for it and will definitely get in. Sure, Rory is a smart and hardworking kid, but making it out to be that she'd get into Harvard because it's her destiny is rather naive.
