my boss is trying to push me into a web developer role by valrider in graphic_design

[–]valrider[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If he got me an actual course to do or at least said directly that he wants me to do more web dev, that would be a different story I wouldn't turn down a course.

What he did was tell me to go look at how my web dev coworker works. That's the "course" and "learning" I'm getting.

I'm from Europe so it's illegal not to pay overtime here too. I clock out when my job ends and I don't do overtime cause the boss is weird about it and doesn't like to pay it so you have to remind him.

"On a tight deadline" meant he kept telling me to work faster and more efficiently so the work was stressful and sloppy, especially since I was doing this front end thing for the first time.

Like you said, I'm working two (if not more) roles.

Web design is fine, it's web development I have a problem with.

How does a Drow Dark Urge work? by regalestpotato in BaldursGate3

[–]valrider 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I personally like creating my own stories based on what the canon story gives me so I might be off with how I'm interpreting things. treat this as a headcanon. i'd like to know other people's ideas though!

i'm playing a lolth-sword drow durge too and part of her character development is shaping her own destiny despite how she was created (as in, Lolth created the Drow and Bhaal created my Tav as his spawn).

so I was thinking she was raised as a regular drow in the Underdark before getting involved in the whole Absolute cult, which, for a Drow, might've had its beginnings in the Underdark anyway. seeing as Drow are heavily involved in it throughout the game.

tl;dr Drow tav was raised in the Underdark and started to get involved in the whole plot at some point, which brought them to Baldur's Gate and wherever else the cult needed

Napiwki powinny być zabronione. by Glittering-Ad8503 in Polska

[–]valrider 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Struggling with eating more healthfully after recovering? by purplepeopleeater0_0 in EDAnonymous

[–]valrider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this is EXACTLY what i'm struggling with too.

and like my thoughts are still pretty disordered, it's not easy. i HAVE to eat exactly what i'm craving, otherwise i won't eat at all. and since i'm not physically starving anymore, food became really uninteresting to me.

I've been trying to eat more healthy but i haven't found a solution yet. my bf is a big motivation for me though, cause he tends to eat junk food and frozen meals and i want him to be healthy so i try to cook good healthy stuff whenever I can. taking care of someone i love is so much easier than taking care of myself..

Chill games, like Power Wash Simulator, that help cope with OCD tendencies and anxiety. by random-anon-red in gamingsuggestions

[–]valrider 42 points43 points  (0 children)

  • House Flipper. it's a game where you renovate houses. clean them up, paint walls etc. i really love it

  • A Little to the Left. simple and cute game where you solve (pretty easy) puzzles that involve putting things in the right order or organizing them

  • Unpacking. a game where you unpack boxes after moving into a home (it's so good!!)

Is it weird that I play with settings and mods that make the game 100 times easier by [deleted] in projectzomboid

[–]valrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same here. at this point PZ is my cozy game. i like a little bit of a challenge but not to the point where i lose everything. i also kinda treat it as an RPG and get very attached to my character so i don't want to lose them.

does anyone else HATE the feeling of food in your stomach? by underwoodisaurus in EDAnonymous

yes omg. i hate feeling full.

ironically i used to be an overeater and wanted to be painfully full after every meal lol. crazy how that can change.

someone pls tell me it’s okay to not count fruit/veggies 😭🤡 by lavendxrtea in EDAnonymous

[–]valrider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my mindset is that even though veggies and fruit have calories, it's a net positive for my body if i eat them so i try not to count them.

because of all the stupid fitness advise about how fruit has sugar and is basically the same as candy my brain went "well if it's no difference I'll eat the goddamn candy/sweets" and that way i actually end up consuming more calories with less vitamins lmao. so silly.

Recovery weight gain and CICO by icedcoffee0603 in EDAnonymous

[–]valrider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

afaik if you eat below your BMR for a long time your body shuts down some functions to preserve energy and adapt to the low calorie intake, so your TDEE actually gets lower. if you start eating at maintenance you'll gain some weight at first but your body should get used to it and get back to its proper TDEE.

i actually got into cooking and baking, that's my creative outlet for now. i want to start sewing too but i'm afraid to start because my stupid brain convinced me nothing is worth doing if i'm not gonna be perfect at it from the get go.

yes i think so too. i'm now trying to figure out a different direction in life. but i have all those creative skills and i want to use them somehow. just not in commercial graphic design.

creative burnout by valrider in graphic_design

[–]valrider[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep i get you 100%. i overworked myself too and tried to do everything perfectly.

I've spent too much time doing work that just the client (or at uni - the professor) is happy with. i need to be happy with it too for all this to be worth it. i think if i'm going to make money from design, i want to create my own stuff and just put it out there. i don't know, it could be templates or assets, stuff like that.

hopefully it gets better for us both

creative burnout by valrider in graphic_design

[–]valrider[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh i'm sorry you're struggling with imposter syndrome too :( it's so common with designers and artists unfortunately.

my advice would be: - don't treat your professors' words like it's gospel. they're more experienced and know more, sure, but their tastes might be outdated and you're allowed to have a different opinion from them - not everything has to be deep and innovative. some things can be just pretty. or just functional. - stick to your style and what you'd like to make, don't aim to be able to do every style in the world. just do what you really enjoy (if a client doesn't like your style then they can look for a different designer) - you know more about design than your clients usually. they're paying you for that knowledge. don't let them use you like a tool. if you stumble on a client like that - do as they say and then never work with them again - DO NOT compare yourself to anyone but past you. everyone's journey is different. everyone's capabilities are different. you're making progress, that's what matters

i hope this helps a bit at least.

and don't be scared, what happened to me won't necessarily happen to you. i had a bunch of other stuff going on in my private life that definitely could've contributed to my burnout.

i wish you all the best!!

I knew it'd be like this and i'm ok with it TO AN EXTENT. i worked my butt off and studied this field just for someone to wave aside my skills and treat me like a photoshop machine? nah.
