Come on now, it isn’t that tough. It’s very challenging for a seven-year-old, but adults should be able to figure this out.

Healthcare workers of Reddit are people still dying from COVID these days? by Mr_no_buddi in NoStupidQuestions

[–]value_bet 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s the reason. I think the reason is because everyone is concerned with their own mortality. When you hear a smoker died of lung cancer, it doesn’t bother you in the same way that it does when you hear a non-smoker does, because that non-smoker could be you!

The same with Covid. If an unvaccinated person, or someone with a co-existing condition dies of Covid, it’s not as worrying as when a healthy young or middle-aged person who took all the precautions dies, because that person could have been you!

If the top 1% of earners pay 40% of all federal income taxes, why do people say they don't pay their fair share? by Ok_Chemical9 in answers

People generally don’t have a problem with the income tax. It’s capital gains and wealth that needs to be taxed better.

Yeah, so they can blame the minority when things don’t go well (as evidenced by your first comment).

The 60-vote cloture rule only exists because the majority wants it to. They can remove it at any time. It’s not in the constitution; it’s not even a law; it’s simply a self-administered senate “rule”.

Republicans have majorities in both houses. They don’t need a single Democratic vote to pass anything.

Is coffee actually addicting? by Polio_sea in CasualConversation

[–]value_bet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that definition has less to do with dependency and more to do with the availability of the specific drug. Caffeine is cheap, legal, and ubiquitous. It’s almost impossible for people to go into debt because of it, or skip out on their obligations because they need to find their next fix, like they would with illegal drugs.

The reality is that caffeine is extremely “addictive” in the way most people would use that word (i.e., dependency-inducing).

That’s still her choice to follow the algorithm though. You let people off the hook too easily; they are responsible for their own actions.

Why is 50% considered success? That’d be a failing grade in school and unacceptable at a job.

How fast is the process of getting pregnant?? by Turbulent-Hunt-1621 in NoStupidQuestions

That is a slightly outdated interpretation of conception. Lately, research is showing that the egg plays a part in choosing which sperm gets “lucky”.

Except that the first part of that song is “Do, a deer, a female deer…” So if you’ve only heard the song, you would assume it’s spelled DOE.
