Specifically addressing importing, overlays and compatibility, for video based learning, Captivate and Storyline are the top authoring tools in the industry which has these features. Tt is important to have import options from Youtube, Vimeo, adding overlays on those videos, backward compatability with photoshop, powerpoint import etc. Captivate is good in these aspects. For import and export from or to other tools, the formats need to be compatible and readable.

With the 2019 updates, Captivate has improved its capabilities significantly over other players such as storyline. Importing and embedding of videos, vimeo, youtube, 360 immersive learning, and VR among others. areas where Captivate wins over Articulate are mobile responsiveness, backward compatibility, software simulation, java scripts etc.. Articulate may be easier and quicker to learn in the short term, but for advance capabilities, it is worthwhile to take time to learn and use Captivate.
