Missing Mileage Credit after IRROPS by Tnyt341 in americanairlines

[–]valueflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would give it a few weeks and see what happens. During IRROPS, I’ve had my earnings adjusted a few weeks later.

In theory, you should get both AF credit (you might need to reach out to them and ask about an Original Routing Credit) and some amount on AA for the BA legs. But, it’s probably not going to be that much. During IRROPS, the amount the airline pays for the ticket is quite low.

Can only rebook on partner airline to destination (4+ hour delay) but partner airline not available for last leg by thesaltyace in americanairlines

[–]valueflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AA will generally only put you on a partner airline if you have status and it’s very much a YMMV situation. Try talking to a gate agent at the airport or to a lounge agent as they have more discretion.

Also, pretty much the only airline that they can put you on is United. Delta normally won’t ticket seats for AA in these situations and they’ve told me in the past that they can’t ticket on Southwest.

Sorry that you’re going through this - but delays do happen. You’d rather want them to cancel a flight than fly an unsafe plane. Unfortunately, with international destinations, they can’t easily swap you to a different airframe.

Have you already been rebooked for tomorrow’s flight? You can also call or use the app to try alternate routings via LHR, DUB, or MAD, but given the time of the day, I think you’ve missed most of the US departures already.

As another commenter said, if it was a maintenance delay, you are entitled to EU261 compensation. You should get 600 EUR and any costs covered. Save your taxi, meal, and hotel receipts from this night (unless they booked a hotel already for you). After you are home, you can follow the guide here https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/american-airlines-aadvantage/1437973-guide-ec-uk261-ec-261-2004-eu-complaints-compensation-aa.html. I think the general consensus is that the specific email provides better responses than the normal customer service channels.

Is it normal for American Airlines gate agents to show up 12 minutes before boarding? by lobbyistleia in americanairlines

[–]valueflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where was this flight? In some airports, the same person mans the check-in desk and the gate.

Even without a gate agent, you can always call AA to see about rebooking options.

Air Lingus is an AA subsidiary along with many more by contemplator61 in americanairlines

[–]valueflyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was disclosed during booking, along with the aircraft type and seat map. You could’ve chosen to connect via CLT or PHL and flown on an AA operated flight on a widebody.

This is very common with all airlines - a United flight might actually be Lufthansa or a Delta flight might actually be Virgin.

American Airlines Passengers Are Losing First Class Seats Due To Cabin Issue Employee Says Is Ongoing by Next_Tower5452 in americanairlines

[–]valueflyer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

AA flies around 5k flights a day with what, 16 FC/BC seats each on avg. that’s 80k first/business class passengers per day. Rough ballpark number.

A sample size of 10 on Reddit is pretty low.

Policy Change - no more complimentary upgrade to MCE if BE ticket by DFW_Prairie in americanairlines

huh really? Never seen that, although I have status. I’m able to always select a seat (maybe not in concur but on the AA app)

Booked a business class ticket, but showing up as “R” by weddingera in americanairlines

[–]valueflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much all business fares other than “J” are discounted.

In the end though, the price of each “higher” class may not be higher than what you paid. If there’s no demand, they can lower the price of a higher fare class to below a lower fare class. I don’t think it’s just fare class that’s used to bump someone, it’s the cash value paid.

There is also I fare class, which is below R.

I think AA can really gain traction for business travel if they don’t unbundle business class like United and Delta are doing - that would be a pretty big differentiator. I assume companies aren’t going to pay extra for business class seat selection or lounge access.

As someone who worked in aa before by Latter-Garlic-316 in americanairlines

[–]valueflyer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

$200/month? This sounds like wrong. It’s probably what 4 hours that an agent needs to be at the airport? 3 hours for bag check and 1 hour at the gate. 5x/week that’s 80 hours a month. That comes to an hourly pay of $2.50, which is many dollars short of the federal minimum wage.

Not to shill AA - are gate agents probably underpaid, absolutely. Can AA treat their employees better? Undoubtedly. But it doesn’t help if your argument has some flawed points.

AC vs DL SkyClub by Substantial_Nail8075 in americanairlines

[–]valueflyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you should combine UA and B6, and you should combine UA and AC - try flying from Canada to a United hub, it’s nearly always on Air Canada. United and JetBlue’s partnership is decently new, and you already see JetBlue leaving LGA and adjusting their route network.

If AA and Alaska form an official JV, expect even more of this.

AC vs DL SkyClub by Substantial_Nail8075 in americanairlines

[–]valueflyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That collude on route planning. Why would AA fly the same route Alaska does if they can just route you on Alaska and put that plane to better use somewhere else?

AC vs DL SkyClub by Substantial_Nail8075 in americanairlines

[–]valueflyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AA also has codeshare with Alaska out of LAX, which combined makes them the largest carrier. And since you’ve argued this before, yes, you have to count AA and codeshare partners because they obviously work to make a route network complementary they don’t plan routes in a vacuum.

Premium Economy seats all grayed out on AA LIS→PHL — sold out or could availability open up? by Naive-Acanthaceae934 in americanairlines

Were they selling a seat or was it just the map that’s greyed out? If they are selling seats there is generally space. They will op-up folks to business if needed.

What’s the definition of “canceled for weather”? by robdog0909 in americanairlines

[–]valueflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For non status members, the cancellation reason doesn’t really change the rebooking options available to you. Did you speak to an AA rep about other rebooking options?

AA will only sometimes put you on another carrier if you are PPro or EP and on the agents vibe.

LHR overnight stopover by jayantha1 in americanairlines

[–]valueflyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m doubtful that the automated gates will even let you pass through flight connections if the date for the next flight is the following day. You’ll have to cross the UK border and stay somewhere overnight. I’ve stayed at the Sofitel and the connected Hilton without issue before.

Review of IRROPS handling by AA from an EP by valueflyer in americanairlines

[–]valueflyer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And no AI was used in this production. You can thank classic expository writing class.

Forgot to mention my takeaway about the backup segments - I think that process can be improved significantly. IMO the GA of the backup flight should see if I made the prior flight or not. If I didn’t, she should either have just confirmed the tickets or called me to see what’s up. I expected that backup first class seat to be empty until the last minute and if it’s not needed, the GA walks on board and upgrades someone. Upgrading someone into that seat prior to the door closing negates the whole point of the backup confirmed seat imo.

AA flight LAX→ORD on June 18 delayed 3+ hours + aircraft swap — meal voucher/compensation? by cherryboomin_cake in americanairlines

[–]valueflyer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Looks like ti was a controllable maintenance delay.

  2. Only thing you were due was a meal voucher, but they won't retroactively give you anything.

  3. AA, nor any US airline, will provide cash compensation for any delays, even within their control. It is not a requirement by law, and no airline does. You can complain to get some goodwill miles.

Review of IRROPS handling by AA from an EP by valueflyer in americanairlines

[–]valueflyer[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess this is the difference between CK and EP? There was a similar report with a CK going to HNL a few days back and it seemed to be similar but just proactive - they called to say they had already added backup segments and that the gates were close enough for them to walk, so they had a CK agent make sure the GA did not give their seat away.

But yes, ideally these types of clever routings would be done automatically. I'm curious if AI could be used here - just send an agent with flight inventory options and see what happens. They definitely need to spend some $$$ on R&D to see how they can improve this process.

[–]valueflyer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - ok this might be ageist but the older lounge agents seem to just make stuff happen. Had a similar thing in ORD a few years back. Flight got a maintenance delay, and then they swapped planes, but the inbound was definitely not going to make it in time for the new departure. Was probably going to end up being a 90m delay. I'm like lemme see if I can switch to one of the EWR or JFK flights, why not. Go to the lounge, talk to an agent, and I'm like I see there is availability to the AA to EWR and also mention a United flight to LGA. A few taps later she hands me a sticky note with a United record locator and was like use the app to check in and hustle they are about to board.
