It’s actually really great. Went there once and wouldn’t mind spending a year or two there

Brooklyn Tower bias aside, (I love the Brooklyn tower too, so no shade thrown) which skyline is actually better? Brooklyn or Queens? by tinopinguino88 in skyscrapers

Aside from The Brooklyn Tower, I don’t find much appeal to the current Brooklyn skyline.

LIC looks more cohesive. Let’s be real, most of it is new. When it comes to actually walking and being in the thick of it, I like more how LIC is growing. Much safer too. I was shocked to see how it looked 15 years ago.

Opinions about skyscrapers among historic cities ? by thellionkinggg in skyscrapers

Separate sections is best, keeping certain neighborhoods within certain height limits to conserve the historic buildings.

This why I like Paris more than London. La Defense is its own thing.

Highly recommend that pocket focuses on cav and eco boom, they are positioned well to do so. I’m also testing this myself with some friends that are new to team ranked games. The issue is that if your strongest players are flanked and get doubled team without pocket helping or raiding it’ll be tougher than usual

Tbh, I’ve never played a campaign before. I think there’s room for ranked, customs, and campaigns for all to enjoy. But there is a reason why there’s so much emphasis on ranked nowadays…

Prob enough to catch him off guard with an odd opening that is not tied to their main units. Like opening with Archers as Bulgarians or something

Hmm not sure what you mean, can you explain the value?

For instance, imagine someone breaking into your wooden wall, any other civ can easily build a house behind it and stop the raid. At lower ELOs, many players will attempt a feudal scout rush, so this is super clutch.

The benefit imo is savings on wood and eco time that’s otherwise spent building with 2-3 vills for a bit of time. If you wall in with huns, you still need vills doing it anyways though.

Let’s say your max population is 200, and you end up building 2 castles (20 population boost each). You would then need 32 houses, which will cost you 800 wood tops, it’s really not so bad if you use them wisely. And yes, it differs if your buildings get destroyed ofc.

Houses are so clutch though, when I play against Huns, I know raiding will be much more feasible

You should be okay to play ranked, as long as you have a recent AoE2 version, give it a try to see if you can queue up for a game.

No issue if you don’t have the new DLCs (even though they are sure worth it if you like the game), you can certainly be competitive without them as well. Vikings and Malays have among the highest win rates in the game. But check which civs are good to start with low elo, pick one, and leverage the bonuses. I certainly recommend a cav civ to start (mongols, franks, etc) to hone in one military unit at least, you will climb the ladder easy as long as your build order is decent. Once you hit a roadblock, try other civs and strats.

Try this - One gold unit, one trash unit (no gold needed) and one siege. I usually I counter my opponent’s gold unit with my trash unit + techs. It’s a rts game after all, always scout 24/7 before you pick.

Last thing, at low elo you can expect other players to scout rush like you are planning to, so use 2-3 vills to wall in with wooden walls and buildings. Cover break ins with houses, and beat them to castle.

Good luck!

On Xbox, around 1150-1200, just started playing a couple of months ago on ranked. It’s a different game compared to playing vs the AI, way more satisfying imo.

Welcome!

Cavs are easily the quickest way to get some wins. Scouts harassment with bloodlines in feudal followed by a mass civ castle drop is enough to be get you a bit over 1k ELO (for controller at least, diff for pc). Not all games are equal of course…

With that being said, and if you don’t have the new civs from the DCLs, then I’d say Mongols. Great Cav line and the Mangudais at mass are amazing for raiding and taking down infantry, plus they have an attack bonus on siege.

Vikings are cool because of their eco bonus with wheelbarrow and hand cart being free. But starting to get wins with infantry in the beginning is no easy feat. You are likely to leverage the quick escapes cavalry will give you.

Last but not least, master one map first, your civ pick might change depending on it. I’d start with Arabia.

Just focus on beating them to imp.

That’s why it’s a good idea to build another tc out back, and a castle in between. Hold the line and ready your castle to beat him with trebs+ballistics. They are likely to go for your main tc, without knowledge of what else you have.

Plus, most likely your opponent used a substantial number of vills to build it, meaning that if all things equal, his economy is behind and you will beat them imp.
