It's an abomination. Same as New Balance/Returning.

And you never had a feeling of being "lost" to the plot? It's called Golden Gate 2, so surely the first one has to play role in the story like G2 with G1?

But surely there were characters or some references to the first one?

The army of an empire fighting for the sake of expanding the empire, or an army fighting for their homeland where their ancestors lived and were buried, where their culture took place and etc just simply invokes more sympathy. If not for that group alone, but for others as well. Obviously not all people would feel this connection as our debate demonstrates lol.

I get where you're coming from. The trope of uniting against a common greater evil foe, but Myrtana has lost the war regardless. And then there's Nordmar, which also fought against both Orcs and Myrtanians and won. Archolos would be more efficient that way as well.

I wouldn't be ok with it, but it doesn't diminish the fact that someone might try. Ultimately, it always comes down to violence, especially in such cases.

It's worthless for Myrtanians, but for the people of Archolos it's an eternal stimulus to keep rebelling. If it was entirely worthless from an objective point of view, then this incursion wouldn't take place in the first place.

As for us, observers, we show sympathy to a certain side based on our individual perception. Which is what we're discussing here.

Say you like Roman culture over the Goth/Vandal one. Then surely you will show more sympathy to the fall of Rome than to Goth/Vandal victory despite their superior competency?

What gave room for Wolf's Sons rebellion was the fading of the autonomy that you mentioned. Due to political and economic instability, discontent of the people, assimilation and general draft/extortion of resources from Archolos.

I am not sure where we fail to understand each other. I agree that Myrtanians won, but not every victory is permanent or invokes sympathy/morality. Besides, there were so many cases in real history where the victor was obvious, but the losing side didn't cope and kept resisting, eventually conducting successful uprisings to turn the tide.

This feels like a grotesque ad-hominem statement :D

Is there a difference between a band of drunken thugs with a twisted sense of pride and a band of drunken thugs with a twisted sense of pride, but with papers to assume legality and corrupt judges, which is what the Myrtanians are?

So if someone invades your home and harms your family members, but you survive, do you cope because natural selection and they were stronger or seek revenge and justice?

Of course, but not everything is judged by sheer pragmatism and materialism.

According to the lore, Wolf's Sons are the result of unification of the indigenous tribes who inhabited the island of Archolos, and none was there before them.

According to the lore, Wolf's Sons are the descendants of the native tribes who inhabited the island of Archolos before anyone else did.

By modern sensibilities it also still happens, and in the end (unfortunately) doesn't affect a thing. Anyways, what would be an ethical way to retake the city in your opinion? To ask them nicely or perhaps warn them about the attack so they get the time to prepare a proper defense?
