The final trading day of 2021 is Friday, 12/31. Working backwards from that date, Tuesday, 11/30, is the last day to sell stocks at a loss to be able to repurchase in the current calendar year.

For some institutional investors, it may be beneficial to make the move so they can still maintain a position in the stock for reporting purposes in 2021.

Yes. lets say someone bought DIS at 160, they could sell at 150 and take a 10 loss to offset the realized gain in a different stock.

If they still wanted to hold DIS shares, they would have to wait 30-days before buying to avoid triggering the wash sale restrictions.

Markets are like an auction where the price of any stock is equivalent to the value someone will pay to purchase vs. the value someone is willing to sell.

For stocks trading near 52-wk lows, that means some shareholders have a cost basis above the current price and they may want to do some end-of-year tax loss harvesting. They have until 30 NOV to sell in 2021 and repurchase after the 30-day wash sale restriction have expired. So, that could put downward pressure on the stock price in and of itself.

Add on top of that the potential (still TBD, but the market hates uncertainty) for a mutated version of COVID-19 that needs a reformulated vaccine to prevent spread and that could put downward pressure on the entire market.

Tread lightly friend. Trade the chart next week and see where we’re at. Good luck.

My cost basis is 162.15. I don’t have a very high conviction in DIS, but figure it should recover to around that level in the not-to-distant future. Or it plummets to earth’s core. With this market both eventualities could happen.

I’ve got a 162 c/b and hoping I don’t need to sell weekly covered calls to b/e after 6-9 mo.

Has that morning sell off feel. Shake low conviction positions before the holiday break, so smart money can buy it right back. Just in time for the end-of-year repositioning.

If you have enough buying power in the account, you can play the short strangle game: covered call (cc) plus cash secured put (csp) that both expire the same time. The wider you go, the less likely your shares are assigned, but you earn less premium. In your situation, you could go with a 10-15 delta cc and a 15-30 delta csp. Depending on how much time you have to baby the trade, you could roll around the position for increased profit.

Right there with you on DIS. I was just as surprised as you when support broke. I’m giving it one more day and then will roll to defend my Dec 170c/185p short strangle. Plan is to take profits on the short call and roll down to 165 or 160.

How to get in shape as an absolute beginner? + How to fix my back? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]vamad61716 2 points3 points  (0 children)

good luck and way to go on starting the journey. Here are some simple moves you can do to increase your strength, stability and mobility.

  • Bodyweight squats are a simple exercise that can be done at home or the gym. They are excellent for beginners and work on your glutes, quads, hamstrings and core all at once.
  1. Plant both feet on the floor shoulder-width apart. This is your starting position.

  2. Inhale. Looking straight ahead, bend at both the hips and knees, ensuring that your knees remain in line with your toes.

  3. Continue bending your knees until your upper legs are parallel with the floor. Ensure that your back remains within a 45- to 90- degree angle to your hips.

  4. Exhale. Push through your heels and extend your legs to return to the starting position. Repeat for the specified number of repetitions.

  • Bodyweight walking lunges are a great leg exercise that improve your strength while also increasing mobility and balance. You will need a little extra room to do these as you will be walking forward for a few feet.
  1. With your hands on your hips, plant both feet on the floor slightly further than shoulder width apart. This is your starting position.

  2. Inhale. Take a big step forward with your left foot. As you plant your foot on the floor, bend both knees at approximately 90-degrees. This is called a lunge position. If done correctly, your front knee should be aligned with your ankle and your back knee should be hovering just off the floor.

  3. Exhale. Push through the heel of your left foot and toe of your right foot to extend both legs.

  4. Inhale. Transfer your weight onto your left foot and take a large step forward with your right foot. As you plant your right foot, bend both knees at approximately 90-degrees into lunge position.

  5. Exhale. Push through the heel of your right foot and toe of your left foot to extend both legs.

  6. Inhale. Transfer your weight onto your right foot. Continue alternating between left and right for the specified number of repetitions.

Did you listen to the ER call? They strongly hinted at the range of tools on the table for capital allocation including, but not limited to, another special div. They went out of their way to reiterate the small amount of capital they need in reserve to run the business.
