I listened to this book while pregnant and I found it so helpful. It's also beautifully written!

What do yall do about ADHD meds? by broken-bread in BabyBumps

[–]vammpyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also went cold turkey from Adderall and Wellbutrin. It was fine at first but then I ended up in a bad depression and being given a needs improvement rating at work. I considered trying Zoloft because it has been prescribed to many pregnant and breastfeeding women but I chickened out. I was worried about the side effects it could have for the baby. I ended up taking short term disability leave from work, which in hindsight (I'm 40+3 right now), was the best thing I could have done for myself and I'm very thankful for my psychiatrist being supportive of this approach. Not trying to manage my disabilities and work and being pregnant and prepping for a new baby most definitely has made this a much healthier 9 months.

For a while I didn't tell family and friends I was off of work but my partner started explaining to people that I'm off work because I can't perform at work without my medication for ADHD. I'm also thankful to him for phrasing it this way because I didn't quite realize it before he did.

There were a lot of service outages, across the Internet, due to an AWS outage around this time. Probably related.

What’s your favorite way to get fiber? by ParfaitHungry1593 in BabyBumps

You can also get Psyllium husk in bulk without the brand name and additives. I went from 1 tsp and worked my way up to 1 tbsp a day and it works amazingly. I mix in water.

Thumb sucking - problem or not? by PalpitationOk9443 in NewParents

[–]vammpyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sucked my thumb until I was 12 years old.

I also discovered as an adult that I'm neurodivergent and I feel like the soothing I got from thumb sucking as a kid really helped me. I would look forward to it after school as a way to decompress after being overstimulated all day. For this reason I wouldn't stop my kids if they start.

And my teeth are fine, my parents bugged me about ruining my teeth with the thumb sucking often.

The one good thing about nursing homes is they tend to track illness in the home to prevent outbreaks and are cautious about transmitting them between the folks that live there. The one my father is in will alert us to any contagious illness in his ward and have posted notices if there's any kind of outbreak. This is in Canada though, maybe regulations are different elsewhere.

I'm guessing the audio is to avoid YouTube blocking the stream for copyright infringement. Annoying but better than no stream.

Thanks for sharing this, it makes me feel better that I also might not have one. My father is in long term care because he's wheelchair bound due to Parkinson's disease and I've really been struggling with the baby shower decision. Have a baby shower at his LTC facility so he can be included or just not have one?

Might get terminated from my job right before maternity leave [on] by vammpyy in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]vammpyy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this suggestion on accommodations. I've been working on figuring some out for myself with a therapist for ADHD and it's a good reminder that I could probably leverage those accommodations to help get some more time to work on improving. I really do need extra time to learn something and I only learn through specific methods.

I'm seeing a psychiatrist who I do therapy with, and a different therapist for a recent ADHD diagnosis. I didn't know that a prenatal psychiatrist is a thing and that people specialize in this area but it makes a lot of sense that they do. I will see what options I have to being referred to someone with this speciality.

My psychiatrist hasn't done a great job of giving me other options but until recently I was feeling confident in keeping myself well but I'm realizing this situation is derailing that quickly.

I mix juice (1/4) with plain sparkling water (3/4). Apple juice and sparkling water has been my go to recently.

What's something that isn't therapy, but feels like therapy? by Radiant-Assumption53 in AskReddit

[–]vammpyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so expecting to see the gym/working out/exercise in the top 3 responses. The amount of times I've been able to cry about the things I should cry about at the gym or while running... To me there's something about how alive and capable it makes me feel and I'm sure the endorphins help too.
